We're not going to be drafting low enough over the next few years to draft a potential stud qb. It's probably going to end up being a situation where we're going to sign one of the high draft picks that has failed. New Orleans did this with Bridgewater, and he'll be at least a decent short term replacement when Brees leaves. Do you try to bring in a guy like Mariotta, and let him sit behind Ben for two years, and hope that he can finally live up to what was expected of him after Ben leaves? If not him, would you look at any of the other struggling young guys, who may be let go by the teams that drafted them over the next few years? Steve Young of course is the ultimate example of such a move working.
