Lolley’s 10 thoughts: Face it, Tomlin is doing a good job ?

Mike Tomlin: Almost solely for that dumb challenge right before the two minute warning. No chance of winning it and he burned his second timeout with the Colts in field goal range. Just an idiotic decision. No way around it. Adam Vinatieri’s miss saved a lot of heat.

I disagree. That play gave them a gift first down on 3rd and long on an uncatchable ball. Peter Carroll wins that challenge on our field easily, and you'd praise him for being an excellent coach for doing the exact same thing in the exact same situation. Just remember, Pete got the call overturned on a touch foul.

The point no one wants to touch is that we have won four out of the last five, and of the four losses, the only one where we got our ***** handed to us was when Ben played. We were a luck bounce from beating San Francisco, Seattle, and Baltimore. All top ten teams.

The same people downplaying our 4-4 record also criticized Tomlin and company for “throwing away” our first round pick in the draft because they “thought” we’d have a top ten pick.

Admit it, there is nothing Tomlin could do that would satisfy any of you (including winning a SB - which he did). Spare me the “he won it with Cowher players argument, since Cowher couldn’t even win with them his last year (no excuses right - or does that only apply to Tomlin). As Lolley said, he ain’t going no where. Deal with it.

We're TRYING to "deal with it" the best we can, by coming on here and venting. Then some punkass nut-hanger like you comes in and wants to cry about some fans venting. Shut the **** up already

You can tell when folks have no intelligent response. They resort to name calling. Here we go Steelers, even if that means Tomlin keeps his job. 🤣🤣🤣

Seen this movie before. Enjoying the wins, know how it ends.

Is Tomlin all of a sudden a game managing, timeout prudent, snap decision wizard, X's and O's guru that we've been waiting for? And he's been right here under our noses for all of this time? I'm sure glad he's had this epiphany. I didn't think he had it in him.

The Steelers are playing better than teams that really really suck and they're losing to teams that are better than average.
They are who we thought they were.

That will give Tomlin his coveted 8 wins. Honestly that's pretty much all I expect of him. But he DOES seem as though he's able to deliver that.
Above the line. Awesome.

and Minkah Fitz has a year in the system
I don't know that a year under Butler is going to help. The thought kinda scares me. Like when a good pitcher gets to the Pirates.

... I expect about 9-7 from Tomlin. Cause honestly, his ceiling just isn't much higher than his 'floor'.
8-8 to 10-6 with a wildcard playoff loss is kind of his natural state and his peak.

Won that Super Bowl 11 seasons ago. Ancient history. Three playoff wins in the last 9 years doesn't cut it. Too often Tomlin is one-and-done after waiting for someone else to win or lose and backing into a wild card game. Having the Browns and Bengals in our division pumps up his record a little and when he faces decent teams in the playoffs he usually loses. You can say Belicheat's record is pumped up against a weak division too but the difference is he wins playoff games and Tomlin doesn't.

I hear 'ya, but the replay announcer correctly pointed out that this was really the first DPI call challenged in part on the fact the ball was uncatchable - which it definitely was. Put that together with the rather ticky-tack contact, mostly hand fighting and feet getting tangled. Add to that the importance of the call - 35 yards from the 15 to midfield when leading by 2, where a reversal (should have happened) makes it 4th and 15? Good challenge.

The call standing confirms that Unca Al will not reverse DPI unless it helps the Patriots. True story.

Yeah, that challenge not as solid, but damn, it was close. I get that the timeout could be important there, no doubt, but once again, the timing makes a lot of sense since a reversal could mean getting a W rather than an L.

Do you want to REALLY know why both challenges were insanely stupid? BECAUSE THE NFL IS NOT OVERTURNING PI CALLS. 99.8% CALLS AS STANDS.

But lets throw the ******* flag when timeouts are at a premium. Moron of a coach standing on the sidelines looking lost as ****. If it wasn't for Fitz joining this team, we'd still be talking about how high of a draft pick the Steelers would be getting.

So you were confident that Rudolph was going to march us down the field with under a minute to go?

Coach of the Year *******.......

That's not the one being talked about. It was thee next one when he challenged for OPI that he had no chance of winning.

The only truly important point Lolley makes is that the regardless of what happens this season, Tomlin isn't going anywhere.

The Steelers have played teams with a combined 28-39 and 14 of those wins were from the Ravens and P*ts. (on the other hand, 15 of the losses were from the Phins and Bengals, so pretty much a wash there.)

The Steelers are playing better than teams that really really suck and they're losing to teams that are better than average. The Colts game was their first win against a winning team this season. Sure, it was lucky at the end there. If Vinatieri wasn't having a Boswell year the Colts would have pulled the game out, but, far as I know my aunt doesn't have balls.

I think the Browns games, while obviously winnable, will be dangerous. Cleveland at this point has nothing left to play for but to beat Pittsburgh. The Bengals truly seem to be tanking. Even they can't be THAT bad. The Jets are pretty hapless and the Steelers should get that game. So right there you have 4 more likely wins as long as they take the Browns very seriously.

That will give Tomlin his coveted 8 wins. Honestly that's pretty much all I expect of him. But he DOES seem as though he's able to deliver that.

Ironically, I fully expect next year, when Ben returns and the D-Line is all healthy again and Minkah Fitz has a year in the system and everything is pointed in the right direction for the Steelers... I expect about 9-7 from Tomlin. Cause honestly, his ceiling just isn't much higher than his 'floor'.

Not true.

This is the type of season where I can easily see Management realizing that under Tomlin, we will not win another Super Bowl and theY part ways mutually.

Yeah, Dan Fouts, who typically is not very generous to the Steelers (to put it lightly) even called that DPI a terrible call because the ball was 100% uncatchable. Not sure why there's so much bitching about that one. Now the other challenge, that was maddening.

Mental issues. Get it checked out

I think you are grown up enough to get checked out on your own.........C'ourse with the ME movement in full swing, you do have options.

Salute the nation

BECAUSE THE NFL IS NOT OVERTURNING PI CALLS. 99.8% CALLS AS STANDS.

I read that they're overturning them at 11%. Still not high, but that should have been one of the 11%. JMHO.

But he would never tell you if he knew he was.

What's that? Oh just the resident Tomlin sack sucker. I call you out on his dumb stuff often. Many times you read it and know better not to reply. This time it wasn't my words. Just a quote from another who happens to be be correct,

Right now Tomlin's NOT the biggest problem on the team, only the most consistent one over the years.

Reading this thread I have to assume I am the only true Steeler fan, 12-4 *******. That is how you have to think,

Yes, if there were Madden season mode, I bet the Steelers could go 12-4 with a really good video game player at the helm.

I see 9-7, with NO chance if we get in the playoffs.
