Juju (illness) and Watt (abdomen) practiced fully today, the equivalent of the ever-important Thursday practice ahead of the Monday night game against the Dolphins. Also, Joe Haden (groin), Steve Nelson (groin), and Jaylen Samuels (knee) also had full practices today, as did Vance McDonald (shoulder) and Roosevelt Nix (knee). Rudolph has been having full practices (concussion) for several days now.

Barron still limited, and of course Tuitt out, but the defensive backs return in full force, assisted by the improving Cameron Sutton and the ever-active Minkah Fitzpatrick.

D looks ready to go on Monday.

I thought Jaysam was going to be out for at least a month?

And I'm completely okay with Barron being out. The defense was better with V. Williams in there.

Barron still limited

Which, by the way, has nothing whatsoever to do with the injury report...

I think Barron was a full participant and regressed to limited. Good to see the majority of the players will be playing Monday night in their color rush uniforms !

Williams gives the defense toughness and tackling ability. Barron gave the defense nothing. Agreed. While Vince is a part-time guy, he's good for situational football. He compliments Bush well as he's a thumper type who can fight off blocks, and Bush, who has been excellent in many areas, is not a wrap-up tackler that makes people go backward.

Barron is the '19-20 equivalent of Morgan Burnett. He was signed to fill a hole on the defense but they ended up getting what they wanted in the draft. Edmunds last year and Bush this year. Both players became redundant. But in this case they believed that the pairing would be better when in reality you need a run stuffer paired with an athlete that covers and plays in space well.

The Steelers didn’t rule any players out for Monday night’s game against Miami.

They do list linebacker Mark Barron (hamstring), linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III (back) and running back Jaylen Samuels (knee) as questionable.

Gilbert was added to the injury report Saturday with a limited practice.

Samuels and Barron were full participants Saturday.

Linebacker T.J. Watt is off the injury report after being limited Thursday, but he said his abdominal injury is not completely healed.

“If I’m safe enough to be able to go where I’m not going to reinjure myself, I’ll definitely give it a shot on Monday night,” Watt said, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.

Quarterback Mason Rudolph (concussion) and receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (illness) were full participants and expected to play.

I would say Mongrief is more like Burnett in offering little to nothing. As was mentioned Barron was starting to improve. I think as he gets comfy in the scheme we will see continual improvement.

I'm not speaking of his play. I'm speaking of his role. Lets say hypothetically they had strengthened another position and not drafted Bush. Then I think your assessment of Barron's play improving might matter. Truth is that he is currently redundant. The defense is clearly better in run downs with Williams at LB. They took a heavy mortgage for Fitzpatrick and Edmunds almost never leaves the field. So Bush, The corners, the safeties, Watt /Dupree or their replacements and at least two down lineman never leave the field. Most sub packages involve inserting DB's. So where does that leave Barron? I don't think it was a terrible acquisition. No one could accurately predict that the Steelers would get Bush. Then he would have been big. He just is not now.

I think Williams fits the run heavy teams but I would think Barron would be a better option against pass heavy teams. So I am thinking as a bit player he serves a purpose .

Watt is confusing me. He practiced 2 full days and is off the report yet he talks like he may not play.

Barron was actually starting to play pretty well until he got hurt. But again, one this place latches on to a guy, and hates him, there's no going back. The D was definitely not better with Vince

He played better than his first 2 games but that isn't saying much because he was probably the worst player on the entire D. And, yes, the D definitely was better when Vince was in there with Bush. Vince and Bush should be the starters moving forward and Vince should get more snaps than Barron when he gets back.

I think the plan was to be situational to begin with but Vince's injury slowed that way of thinking.

Jeez! Let's hope Watt doesn't have the same injury genes as his brother. This is at least his 3rd season ending injury in the last 3 or 4 seasons. Not good at all.

I, personally, wouldn't play him. We've got a hellified stretch in front of us and I'd prefer to go into it w/ TJ playing. I'm not discounting Miami and their 0-6 record; but I'm certain we can put together a defense to slow and stifle the Dolphins w/o Watt. Heck, I'd bring up Jayrone Elliott - the kid knows how to rush the QB and Ola will get the much needed playing time w/ the 1's...

I opened this thread to post this exact same thing. We need Watt 100% the rest of the way, this is one of those tricky injuries, if it's not 100% it's easy to re-injure.

I think Watt sits this week if its still a lingering injury. We absolutely need him healthy and we will be skinny at OLB with Chickillo on the commissioner's exempt list or whatever they got him on. Be a good reason to go sign Skipper this week to play this weekend against the Colts. Then maybe Watt will be ready v the Rams where he will be more needed.

Good luck with that...It's football. No one who bangs and IS A FOOTBALL PLAYER is 100% this time of year.

That said, this is a game we cannot lose. If he can lace em up, he plays

You know what I mean, I know the cliche, no one is 100% after the first game.
