Rudolph cleared to play

Well I hope he turns the corner & is more assertive out there and follows his progressions better

Pretty sure I saw him on the field during warm ups in street clothes. Hope the next two weeks helps him clear his head from that nasty hit.

The second read is the back almost exclusively in this package... it was true last night too... Rudolph has looked fine playing more aggressively when the team is behind in the second half, as hodges did replacing him last week....

If the staff assumes either are going to be like ben and change the play or the primary or secondary read to a deeper pass they are obtuse... both these guys are going to run the plays as drawn up... and frankly the first few weeks the oline was letting so much pressure in that no deeper passes were really safe to run anyhow...

This O really misses Ben’s ability to adjust plays and pass protection at the line... it’s possibly exposing Fitch as an OC a bit...

No controversy here at all. Rudolph is the starter for the rest of the season, barring injury. Duck's only chance to overtake him will be in camp next year. Duck didn't look bad but he certainly didn't look any better than Rudolph so far.

Duck Duck Duck!

Rudolph is light years ahead of Duck, looking forward to seeing him back leading our offense. Duck has shown he's a solid back-up, glad he's around in case we need him.

I saw the same thing.

I'm rooting for Hodges when he's on the field; but, let's not get crazy...there's a reason he's #3 on the depth chart. I'm NOT SAYING he cannot get better but PRESENTLY we have a better option.

Duck will make a roster moving forward...

Duck is one of two Steelers QB's in last 30 years to win their first start!

Steelers think Devlin Hodges looks familiar

Maurkice Pouncey said he saw promise in the third-string quarterback when he handled a bad snap with poise

“He looked like Ben” Pouncey said. “I told him, ‘I appreciate you, man.’ I was up there, talking trash, and he hurried-up snapped it. I was like, ‘Oh crap.’ But he did a hell of a job of getting that ball and throwing it out. I honestly thought in my head, ‘That’s Ben.’ Ben would’ve done the same thing. It was awesome.”

You know I'm being very hard on Mason....I'm hard on Ben too....If I had a dollar for every time I yelled at the TV and screamed "Throw the ******* ball"...........

Just passing the eye test, it SHOULD be Rudolph.
Mase has a bit more zip on his throws, no matter the yardage.
I'm NOT saying throwing the ball harder is better ( see Akili BollerLeaf ), but being able to throw "the frozen rope" or fit in to tight windows is HUGE.
DBs have insane closing speed at this level. Every bit counts.

I don't think either QB has shown they're THE MAN, and I think our D has played awesome for the games they've started.
But IF Mase is cleared, he SHOULD be the starter until he shows he can't hack it.

i was surprised at the lack of deep attempts, but it may have been part of the plan. Any deeper throws were way off with the exception of the int which the WR didn't help much. On the flip side Duck didn't have to do much because the running game and defense were stellar. It was really hard to evaluate him due to the way the game played out.

Unfortunately neither QB poses that "frozen rope" fit it in a tight window arm strength.

I've seen many amazing arm talents totally bust and many great decision makers flourish. So long as you have at least pre required arm strength I'd rather have the decision maker every time.

Whoever plays QB from now on, we have to get the WRs more involved and start going downfield. This constant dumping it off to the backs and TEs is getting on my nerves and is a recipe for long term (as in the rest of the year) failure.

How about this? Go downfield if the guy is open, but if a receiver is wide open 8 yards from the LOS, throw to him? Here is a quick still of the pass Hodges threw 30 yards downfield, into heavy coverage. Hey, great idea, open up the defense - right? Except he simply ignored a guy wide @#$%ing open who gets an easy 12 yards.

Hodges pick.jpg

Dude in the middle of the picture is Snell, completely uncovered. The pass downfield that was picked brought the Chargers back to life. Hodges throws short - which for some reason is now a goddamn crisis, despite the fact that Tammy has done it every goddamn year for 20 seasons and his dick drips announcer drool as a result - the Steelers pick up 12 or more yards, move to midfield, continue driving down the field, eat up a lot of clock, put more points on the board and end the @#$%ing game.

But hey, throwing deep matters so much it's worth giving up free yards and turning it over, I guess.

I don't think there's any question you go back to Rudolph at least for the time being. He was starting to find his rhythm in the offense the week before he was hurt. He gives us the best chance to open up the offense and use the full compliment of weapons. In his last full start he was beginning to get the ball out to the WR's more and spread it around. Duck will get better in time but he's very raw still.

Rudolph hasn't even had a full 3 games to get acclimated to the NFL and people are wanting to run him off already FFS.
