Here’s one vote for yes. You can only dink and dunk for a while before teams move their defenders closer to the LOS to stop it. Our backs have less room to run and confront the second level sooner in this type of passing offense.

Hodges can hit the mid passes with accuracy and run with it. Two things that were weak points with Rudolph.

What is a running gane?

You mean running game?

You are assuming they don't restrict Duck like Rudy. So no, no change.

Few of those balls from Duck could have easily been picked off, he will need to get better in his decision making if the Steelers are to have a snowball chance in hell...............

But duck wasn’t restricted. He threw it down the field. I think Rudolph chooses the check down stuff. Well see. Hodges could have won the game if not for ju-ju’s fumble. Conner looked a bit better once the Qb change was made.

I think this is an interesting topic.

You made your own point Hodges wasnt restricted so what makes you think Mason was..maybe Mason just didnt read it as well as Hodges.

Hodges is a more natural passer and has the it factor that Rudolph lacks. he can move and throw from many different arm platforms He just has that confidence and swagger the great QBs all have and that Rudolph lacks. The confidence the Steelers showed in him by opening up the playbook is both a compliment to him and a minus for what they think of Rudolph.

It looked like Mason was scared to death throwing the ball downfield, i bet the coaches didn't tell him to throw it short every play.

I feel like I'm watching a different game than some of you. Mason was pushing the ball down field this game as part of the game plan. He was moving out of the pocket, threw a strike to Washington when he was done dirty by Thomas.

I think Hodges has a chance to be special.

I just do not think he's ready to play yet.

Him starting the rest of the year could go either way. I would hate to see him be forced into action prematurely and be ruined, but the kid seems to have the confidence to overcome it.

At 1-4.. does it really matter if we're able to run the ball next week. Besides, everyone knows we don't win games on the west coast no matter how good of a team we have.. and this team is bad.

I think Mason was trying not to make a mistake while when the Duck went in he just played and let it loose. Two entirely different circumstances that the two had. Now that our season is over who ever is in there should just wing the ball around. Would be nice to see them under center some.

Hodges's accuracy in camp set a record. Something like 70.3% percent which is better than Ben's accuray and anyone else's in the sox years of camp stats.

While he is wild like you said, he the arm, accuracy, mobility, and playing style be someone down the line.

In his senior year in college, he threw for 4,283 yards, completed 70.5% of his passes, threw for 32 touchdowns and ran for 8 more. He did this in 11 games played. While his competition level was suspect, he wasn't close to working with NFL players on offense.

Rudolph is what he is. He has a low NFL ceiling. Rookie Qb's and 2nd year QB's playing are doing better.

Why would he be ruined. He will not allow himself to be spoon fed like they have been doing with Randolph. It is obvious to anyone that knows football the Steelers do not have faith in Rudolph for whatever reason and as soon as Hodges came in the game the pace and play calling did a 180. There are young QBs all over the league who are late round picks like Allen at Carolina or Minshew at Jax that are thriving. The NFL has never been easier for young QBs to prosper. I think Randolpj just got Gehriged today by a better player.

What?

Responded to punx post where he worried that Hodges could get ruined early.

The Steelers won at San Diego the last time they played there....with an over-the-hill Michael Vick at QB.

They can do it again. Why not?

The question is, does it really matter if they win or lose? It would take a miracle to see this team in the playoffs.

It always matters if you win or lose. Regardless where the team stands. You play the game to win.

If he is forced into action,.......what makes you think he is "automatically" ruined? I think he is ready to sink or swim as that is what is put before him, like he has a choice. BEN had similar criteria at his early start (not saying Hodges is ben). I just want the coaching to step up a lot and that would make the players better as well.

Salute the nation

You play the game to win.

Our running game would be better if people would hold on to the football. Ditto the passing game.

Kind of like when Landry Jones was here, if he had to come into a game he played pretty well. If Ben was out and he knew he was playing the next game and had all week to think about it, he was usually bad.

That would be the only game Tomlin has ever won on the west coast in 13 years with the Steelers.

Who is going to be the backup QB to Hodges.

Mason Rudolph is likely to be out in concussion protocol at least
this week.

Who's available?

Probably Paxton Lynch on the practice squad.

Our QBs will be Hodges and probably Paxton Lynch is a crazy scenario in week 6. This season gets whackier and crazier each week.

Running game should be better with Hodges taking snaps from under center, also makes our play action better
