There are some positives~!

I don't know, Bud Dupree keeps running back on the field every game. Expect a long career here for Mark Barron.

Dupree had several positive plays yesterday, as he does most games. He was in Garappolo's face on one of the picks, for instance. Sure, he's no Deebo, Porter or Greg Lloyd, but he's nowhere near the lost cause Barron is.

Dupree is always near the ball, but rarely in position—would’ve thought he’d have improved in that area.

We’ve all seen America’s Game 1974 : When Andy Russell comments on how his first meeting with Noll went, despite making Pro Bowl but not liking the way he played—trying to be hero, do too much...

Watt plays it in position, with the right angles. Wish Dupree would’ve moved in with Watt and trained with him all off season to learn something... coaches sure can’t do it

This team needs a coaching overhaul. It just is just time....................

I imagine that will be the case soon, very likely at the end of the season, with a complete overhaul of the FO and coaching staff. Colbert is ready to hang 'em up, perfect timing for Tomlin and his entire staff to exit stage left. Then you bring in a new GM to hire a new coach, who will then assemble his own staff. It will be regime change unlike anything we've seen in the Burgh. We still have thirteen more games to go.

Tomlin will be here until he decides to leave. Idiots in the media still talk about him being some great coach. He's the most overrated coach in all of professional sports.

100%, The question is at what point was he worth our first round pick. If we have a top 7 pick, ouch.

How many 1st round pick of tomlins have panned out and been star-like players?

The one constant here is scheme which is coaching originated. COACHING didn't step up today to help a first time starter. I realize there will be no coaching changes during the season but there should be a complete change come end of season. NOW if this team would actually turn it around via some much better coaching, then there would be a hard decision to make. Currently, that decision is an easy one.

They're not Tomlin's picks - for the better or worse - but the Steelers' picks. As has been noted a zillion times, it's a collective effort with the HC, GM, coaching & scouting staffs. Tomlin doesn't sit there and make the picks, even if some fans want to pin it all on him.

Regardless, I'd say they're batting around .500 over the past twelve years.

Timmons, Pouncey, Cam, DeCastro, Shazier, Watt & Bush all seem to be good picks.

Relative to the rest of the league, it's probably better than what we think.

But of course, when you focus on the Ziggy Hoods', Jarvis Jones' and Artie Burns' of the world, it's easy to be negative about it.

When you get totally dominated in all phases of the game 3 weeks in a row to start the season, it's hard to be positive.
Minkah Fitzpatrick looked great, I thought. I hope he's worth a top 3 pick.
Tuitt looks great at times.
TJ Watt is an excellent, disruptive player.
Joe Haden is a top corner.
JuJu made a great play.
Diontae Johnson got wide open deep.
Berry's returnable punts went farther than usual, and he almost put one inside the five. It just landed in the end zone, that's all.
We might not get blown out by the bengals at home next Monday night.

They played better than expected and I actually enjoyed watching, not having any expectations of coming out of it with a win.

Fitzpatrick appears worth the number one pick.
Boz appears back and Berry was boomin.
Watt is a beast.
D. Johnson was a huge improvement.
Rudolph played about as well as could be expected given his first start, and I don't blame Conner for not being able to run through a brick wall.

Play calling was atrocious.

Who gives a ****, really. People will be griping over that 1st round pick for years, but I like it. For those who say Tomlin/Colbert can't pick, then BOOM, you got your blue chipper in Minkah. We got our 1st rounder next year, but we got him THIS YEAR and he's a proven commodity. This guy is a difference maker. Worth the 1st rounder. He was a top 11 pick, and now he is OUR pick.

We need to just decide who we will be picking in the overall 40-45 pick range.

One positive takeaway is that Ulysees Gilbert will be playing inside linebacker for us in the near future. There is no way Mark Barron sticks around after that pathetic performance, right? I mean he was awful for four quarters. He was consistently bad against the run and against the pass. He's been terrible since the season opener, and may actually be getting worse, if that's at all possible. How will that not show up on film, when they review it early in the week? We actually have an ILB coach, Jerry Olsavsky. Maybe he's the one that needs to be fired first, for allowing this travesty.

One would think not, but I don't know, apparently he has the pedigree. /sarcasm.

well a big positive was I was originally going to pay $$$ to go see this game but decided not to 3 weeks ago.

Winning!

Oh, and Antdrew wants to punch you in the face. ;- )

The moment Roethlisberger went out for the season, I knew the best, I mean the very BEST they could hope for was Tomlin's go-to 8-8.

I'll be honest. I am really interested in seeing how Tomlin does when he doesn't have one of the best 3 or 4 QBs in the league over the last 15 years pulling out games week in and week out.

Personally, I don't think Tomlin is a good enough coach to overcome the loss. That doesn't mean I give him a pass because his H.O.F. QB is out for the season. Quite the opposite. I think Mike Tomlin will finally be exposed, truly exposed as the almost mediocre coach he is.

If that's what happens this season - I can live with it.
And I already got my early Christmas Gift with Antonio Brown repeatedly punching his own career in the face.

Reactions: mdl
- Aside from the fumble when he was trying to do too much,

Conner had a better day than LeVeon Bell. I'll take it. You take a V where you can get one.

- JuJu had a WAY better day than Antonio Brown.

At this rate, I bet JuJu finishes the season with more yards AND TDs.

Short sample size, but:

We held the 49ers to their lowest point output this season.

We held them to their first 3 and out this season

We held them to their first scoreless quarter this season

We scored more on their D than anyone else this season

D didn't play great, but gave the O the opportunity to win.

SF gave us two of those turnovers, but, I'd argue that the past couple of years, we don't even recover those. Two were forced turnovers (fitz involved in both) and one was a tipped ball INT that we haven't been getting the past couple of years.

You're right it is a small sample size. NE scored it second highest point total against our defense. Our offense only outscored the dolphins by 3 points against NE. See how easy small sample sizes are to manipulate.

So I'm not impressed by scoring 3 more points than the bungles and Bucs. 2 other teams that are going nowhere fast.

I HATE giving what looks like will be a top 12 pick at worst for a safety/3rd corner hybrid in Fitzpatrick, I think it was a panic move to avoid a train wreck season and heat on Tomlin, but he made the D more dynamic today and was the most active player on D I've seen this year, props to him and all the best, he didnt make the trade can't hate him for it, I'll cheer and be excited about him

The way I see it is that Fitzpatrick was an 11th overall pick just a year ago and looks like a potential superstar/perennial Allpro type defender.

The only the way the trade ends up being bad for the Steelers is if it turns out the Steelers missed out on a franchise QB with the pick.

That will depend on what the likes of Tua, Fromm and Herbert end up doing in the NFL.

Dude, I'm not that new to or naive to think Tomlin makes one hundred percent of decisions on the drafting. I should have stated the entire crew I agree but sometimes reading between the lines, just a little, helps.

The odds of Fitz being a successful 1st round draft pick (our cost at time of trade) will out weight the chance of a "Tomlin & co." Actual draft choice being successful. Thank you

We can say all we want about player selection, but the simple, undeniable facts are these: Tomlin has put his defense in place. These are his players. This is his defense. He has nine - NINE!! - first round picks playing on this defense.

And his defense was gashed by the 49ers running game. That is on Tomlin more than any person on earth. Blaming Buttlick is just a cop-out. Buttlick is Tomlin's front guy, and nothing more.

we are only 2 games out o 1st place and we have not played 1 team in our division.

That's my kindA thinkiN.

This season is not over by a long shot. Tomlin has shown in the past they are slow starters, this year being very slow but NOT lost yet. The TEAM and the COACHING will find it's path and we will move up through out the rest of the season. It can be done.

So you're sayin' there's a chance!

If you don't mind BLITZ, I'll take this one..............

wig, there is always a chance. I was an armature boxer for awhile and not bragging, but was VERY good at it. My trainer would always tell me when I was facing an opponent,......... he'd say "there always a puncher's chance".... meaning anything is possible.

edit: Trainer wasn't referencing that to me, he was referencing it about my opponent and meaning for me to take care of business
