Conner Is Not a Starting Back

Bell would not be doing anything with this line either. We are also not passing to the backs much. JaySam should be on the field way more

I seem to remember Ben having to make a saving tackle on one REALLY BIG Bus fumble.

Don’t forget Bussie coughing it up against the Jets in the ‘04 Divisional Game as well. He may have also fumbled in the AFCCG a week later too. I don’t recall.

Bullshit. Put Elliott, Bell, or McCaffrey in our backfield running these plays and they suck *** too.

I like Connor, he's a good complimentary back. I really think we need a true featured back. Isn't CJ Anderson available? I would kick the tires if JC continues to fumble. You just can't let that happen there and at that point of the game. Montcrief is sitting for two bum games. I'm not saying to bench JC, but it was just as a critical mistake as last week with DM.

JC is a limited back who runs great with a head full of steam. This moronic coaching staff was giving him the ball on those delayed sidecar sweeps, square peg, round hole.

I don't know if Conner is a starting RB or not, looked very good last year. I've been saying this for a few seasons now, but this Oline is not an Oline that's going to line up and punish people in the run game, they are built and paid to pass block first and that shows. We are a throw the ball to set up the run team.
I'm not sure why the majority of people acted like losing Ben wasn't too big of a deal. SF had no fear of our passing game stacked the box, our Oline was trying to block 7-8 guys. If we want to run to help Mason, we better get a FB

Has there ever been a HOF QB with 2 Super Bowl rings and incredible career stats that is so undervalued by his fan base as Ben ? Other teams would kill to have had Ben and we suffered for 22 years between Bradshaw and Ben, great QBs do not grow on trees.

There's a reason Bradshaw never comes back to town, if you listened to sports talk radio in Pittsburgh last week, I wouldn't blame Ben if he did the same thing, fans and media saying Ben is done, they need a new start, Mason is the next big thing and Ben was holding him back. It was pretty pathetic, instead of every being bummed, most were excited and happy

JC is not the problem, when the line blocks properly, he gets it done.

The Oline played like **** today, never did I see them win the positioning battle. Look how easy it was for the niners to convert 3rd/4th and 1, piece of cake... For us it was a struggle, Rudolph was getting pressured instantly most of the time, Conner got hit a lot behind the LoS again like in previous games

If they don't win in the trenches, O and D line, Rudolph and the team won't stand a chance.

I think it's a combination of both. I don't think Connor is a feature back but he would be good to pair with a speed home run hitting guy.
The OL has really took a step back losing Munch.. Sarrett isn't that guy we need IMO.

Conner also seems alot more light in the *** this year. He gets knocked around like a pinball...

Everything looks slower because we do not have AB and as a result we have no one that creates space due to his constantly being double covered. There is no one on this offense that scares the opposition and as a result the field shrinks and the running lanes and passing lanes are clogged. JuJu is a great #2, a mediocre #1 and as a result no team has to back off us and play loose, it is a domino effect on the entire offense and now without Ben and his big play ability it is further exacerbated.

I see what you're saying, but SF doesnt have an AB, but they had guys open, Seattle had people open every where.

I'd love to see what this coaching staff does for game prep through out the week. Fichtner is being exposed as a QB coach, nothing more. He can't scheme up an offense for ****.
Much like the DC who just does the same thing week in and week out... oh and the HC who does... well, nothing. He does nothing.

Even if you were going to spell or bench Conner in that game, the coaches didn't give our (by far) No. 2 RB a single carry or a single target in the pass game. Samuels has done nothing but play extremely well when in games for limited time. He runs and gets yards and he catches the ball like a WR. He should have been in playing TE or something similar to it when Vance went down. And, he should have been Rudolph's outlet for dump offs the entire game. Why the coaches didn't set up a relief valve for a first time QB baffles my mind.

My only concern with Connor was fumbling as it seemed that he did so every time I watched him play at Pitt. I consider a fumble to be the equivalent of -50 yards. Add that to a backs stats and you get an idea of his true value.

I sure as hell didn’t undervalue him.

I mean no disrespect to anyone here—but I’ve got clear memories of:

Clifford Stoudt — the only USFL Pittsburgh Maulers game that sold out was when he came in with Birmingham and it was promoted with “Boo Stoudt” Shirts.

David Woodley — He didn’t need a realtor to find Chuck Noll’s doghouse.

Mark Malone — “Dear Santa, we need a new QB, ours is broken”

Scott Campbell — He was cheered for throwing ball out of bounds to avoid sack (his career highlight)

Steve Bono — our Scab QB might have been the best of the 1980s bunch.

Todd Blackledge — Wrong QB from 1983 class fellas

Andrew Brister — I’m the man, write it down. Okay Bubby, lets get your mom on tv

Neil O’Donnell — had best Defense in football and couldn’t even Trent Dilfer it.

Jim Miller — his run as the starter was shorter than AB with Pats

Mike Tomczak — can literally still hear Cowhers frustration with the guy

Kordell Stewart—he wouldn’t have cried during a game if he stayed at WR

Kent Graham — At least they tried to get Marino to come out of retirement first

Tommy Maddox — the best passing QB of this team since Bradshaw popped his elbow in Shea 1983. At least he had 2002.

Thanks for the laugh FSF. Haha

Where is Jaylen Samuels?

Was he injured or inactive? Is he in the doghouse? The supposed "Swiss Army Knife" for the offense looked quick and shifty during the preseason and he has barely seen the field. Didn't even get out there yesterday. Instead we get Benny (2 yds and a cloud of dust) Snail backing up Connor. If he is healthy and not playing it seems to be just another example of Tomlin's failure to make in game adjustments.

100% agree. The Conner experiment needs to end. Sit him next to Mongrief and let Samuels start and Snell get some reps. Guy can't protect the football in critical moments.

I've said this same thing numerous times in several threads. It makes no sense. And, if they decide to bench Conner for yet another "game losing" fumble, it better be for Samuels. He has more than earned that position and has been playing great when called upon.
