**** this thread went from who needs to be fired to pom poms,**** waffles,owning people and paint chips. A few more weeks like the last two and we all may need to take a few week fan timeout just for the blood pressure.

If I owned the team I would fire every coach on defense, hire Rex Ryan as DC, and tell Tomlin to sit down and STFU and don't even talk to him.
 
The defense sets the mindset of the team. Not one of those 6 trophies the players walk by was ever won without a top notch defense.

They have had ample time to replenish Cowher's squad. They haven't gotten close other than drafting Ryan Shazier. He was on his way to doing great things.

^^ 100% agree. Dude can flat-out coach some defense.

Tomlin needs to go bye-bye...said it years ago. His "rah-rah" schtick and his press-conference one-liners are cute and all but in the end, you still have to be a leader of men. Coach 'em up, keep 'em in line.
Butler needs to go as well. He doesn't know defense. This defensive unit plays as undisciplined as anything I have ever seen. There are receivers running WIDE OPEN in the middle of the defense, on the edge of the defense, hell, just about everywhere.

Who do you replace them with? I don't know. I really don't see a whole lot of great candidates out there. I think Nick Saban's fall from grace at Miami was more a product of it being Miami than anything else. He couldn't get the QB that he wanted (Brees) and ended up with Culpepper...Alabama came calling and he knew he could succeed there. I think Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma will eventually be in the NFL but I'm not sure he's ready to be a coach at this level.

Noll wanted to build a new Steel Curtain with Rivera and passed on Marino. Let's hope Art is smart enough not to fight the last wars and goes with a young offensive mind this time instead of the defensive blueprint of the last century. The game has just changed too much at warp speed to cling to past sacred cows.

The most ironic part of the Slashsteel - steel12 exchange was they both liked this post. I guess that proves any 2 people can find common ground on something.
