If there is ONE good thing to come from any of this, Pittsburgh should cut and paste this into EVERY new contract from today on. No exceptions. Period.

“If at any time prior to the end of the 2019 League Year, Player: … takes any action that materially undermines the public’s respect for, or is materially critical of, the Club, Player’s teammates or the Club’s ownership, coaches, management, operations or policies then, upon election of the Club, the guarantees set forth in this section 27 will be null and void, whether or not any such guarantee otherwise had been earned in accordance with the terms thereof.”

Word for ******* word, and don't be afraid to use it.

Standard language. The issue is always the "materiality" of the criticism or harm involved.

Also, the endless series of repetitive terms is annoying. "Null and void"?? What the **** do we think "null" means?

"1. having no legal or binding force; 2. amounting to nothing."

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/null

And "void"? What does that mean?

"1. of no legal force or effect; 2. containing nothing."

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/void

Oh, okay. So maybe the contract should state that violative behavior makes the contract obligations by the team null, void, worthless, of no force and effect, constituting nothing," and on and on.

Spike is this a boiler plate contract for 2019 or an actual player’s contract?

It was copied from Albert Breer, twitter "in the guarantee language in Antonio Browns contract"

Go look it up

Well, I'd write it "if you act like a ******* ********, we won't pay you ****" but somehow I don't think that would hold up in court.

If you are allowed to put that language in a contract, I have about 20 million reasons why the Steelers should have had that language in the contract. There is no way AB was a model citizen leading up to the last contract. Now it is unfair to say that you could apply this language to every contract. Because who decides. AB had to take the language because of his actions prior to getting what he always wanted: to shower with Tom Brady.

I like it much better though. Very easy to understand both intent and meaning.

The last part of your sentence is critical. Neither Pittsburgh or Oakland had the guts to "go to the mattresses" over AB's behavior. We could have, at a minimum, docked him a game check last season. Oakland could have given him the "5 - day letter". For some reason that is a mystery to me, ownership is gutless. Not a Sicilian among them.
