next play is a little off tackle to the short side of the field. Basically a 26 but the back takes it wide due to the train wreck up front. The OT Gets up field and delivers a solid hit on Vince. The backside OT (I htink OT) tries to cut off Barron but there is small speed mismatch here. Barron's bigger issue is Vince lcoked up with the playside OT. No matter, TJ squirts through and makes the play. I call this out because he had some help from a guy I have called out for not liking contact. THe guy takes on their TE who is 260. If the back goes further outside, this guy spills the play to the sideline and out of bounds. Who? 25....artie burns. Good job Kid.
Next play is hard to explain...I should probably draw it but not gonna... so basically shoing the same kinda 26 run to the short side of the field (offensive right in this case) but the QB fakes handoff and bootlegs back to the left and hits a wide open receiver. VWill appears to have been beat on the play so lets yell at the DC and VWill. Rewind. It is a tight set with playflow to the offensive right. We have 8 in the box and Edmunds crashes at the run action away from him. The X reciever (offensive left split end) goes post and clears out Nelson. Nelson is clearly M2M.. The backside TE drags the line in front of the bootleg...that is he is working right to left. Both Vince and Edmunds are on him. By the time the QB gets to the left hash, Vince realizes whats up. The Y reciever (Split end on the "Run" side is crossing at LB depth. He peels off to try and cover that guy. Edmunds is still on the TE dragging the line. It is an easy pass for **** but Vince gets the correct angle and gets behind the reciever. WR stutter steps to beat VWill however this is enough time for Edmunds to run him down from behind.
So who ****** up? I can't answer this because I don't know the call. But Nelson was in M2M, that is clear. Burns is the other side CB who would be on the Y reciever if he is also in M2M. Burns does not follow him across the field. So, either he blew his M2M assignment or he thought Edmunds or Vince would pick it up. Again, I can't say for sure because I don't knwo the play call, but I suspect Burns should have been M2M on the guy. On TV, however, it looks like DC had Vince in coverage and we all knw how dumb that is.
Goes to show you that film tells tales that National TV doesn't.
