Conner looked good last night, hopefully he can stay healthy because the Steelers have zero quality depth behind him. none

You must have tuned out when Jaylen Samuels carried the ball?

Are you smoking dope or did you just not watch any of the preseason games or the end of last season when Conner was hurt? JaySam has been on fire and is more than capable as his backup. In fact, I would expect Tomlin to get JaySam in the games moreso than just as a carry or two breather for Conner.

JaySam is the reason why we will run plays with 2HBs this season. The return of the pony backfield!!

Yeah, Samuels is just fine as backup. Guy can block, run good routes out of the backfield, catch the ball, run between the tackles, hit the edge on sweeps. I really like him as the #2 RB this season.

If he gets the usual one series per half, I see him protecting Ben, stoning pass rushers, running good routes, getting 5-6 carries per game, more in blowouts, 25+ yards rushing per game, several targets and catches per game, and 4-5 TD's.

At the end of the year, maybe 90 carries, 425 yds, 3 rushing TD's, 25 receptions, 220 yds, 2 receiving TD's, and Ben clean in the pocket.

Just what I want from the backup RB.

Let’s hope they do this year. They ran JC into the ground last year. He could have and should have been spelled more times and would have had his health for playoffs. ....maybe.

Jaysam looked great in his limited opportunity but to put faith in him to carry the team if Conner goes down is a bit premature. The guy has never even played RB before he went to the Steelers? Being a good change of pace or 3rd down back who can catch is a far cry from a featured back.

Did you watch the Patriots vs. Steelers last year? I'll admit, I wasn't sure how he'd be as a pure runner when he wasn't tasked to do it in college, but he's shown he absolutely can be that #2 and then some. To quote Steeltime "Guy can block, run good routes out of the backfield, catch the ball, run between the tackles, hit the edge on sweeps. I really like him as the #2 RB this season."

I think he was just TUNED OUT.

Don't forget Benny "The Snail" Snell as some tools call him.

I think he can wear down a defense in the 4th quarter, if he stays heathy. JC, Sammy and Benny. I think we are good!

B-B-B-B-B-Benny just needs some jets.

:drum:

I'll see myself out again.

And I'm going to say it. JaySam is a better receiver with better hands than Bell. Bell was the tougher RB, but JaySam is soo smooth as a receiver. Love that guy ever since reviewing his draft tape!

If God forbid something happened to Conner and he had to sit out a game or two, my best guess is they'd start Benny Snell as the lead back and keep JaySam in his regular role, thus causing the least amount of disruption to the offensive gameplan. To my eye Snell has a very similar game and running style as Conner. Let's hope we never find out, and James is fit as a whistle the whole season. I'd rather only see Snell get short-yardage and goal line work and late in 4th quarters wearing down defenses. It will be the Conner & Samuels show this year, bless their hearts.

What did you see in Benny that says he could wear a defense down? Not calling him a bust, some rookies just need time to adjust, but the Steelers aren't counting on him to wear anybody down.

He's could be a good downhill runner, big body back that needs rhythm and touches. Still raw, but we should see what he can do tomorrow night. I'd like to see him in a feature role.
