I was watching a replay of a 1972 game, Vikings @ Steelers.

Bradshaw didn't complete a pass until the 2nd quarter. NOBODY would consider that team at that point in the season an offensive juggernaut. Harris had 1 good carry in the 1st quarter, which went for 15+ and a touchdown, but it was really extraordinarily well blocked and he wasn't touched.

I'm telling you, it's frickin' painful watching that offense.

The Defense though... Wow.

Tarkington at least completed a few passes, but geez, that defense was tough.

If you'd like to enjoy...

A lot has changed. One big thing you will notice when watching the old games is,when a receiver misses a catch, he gets up and runs back to the huddle. In today's game its just automatic to jump up and start crying to the ref to get the PI call.

They also didn't act like they won the Super Bowl every time they made a first down or a tackle.

Exactly. I had a salesman for a few years who was on the O-line for the undefeated Dolphins team. (Yes, he breaks out the champagne). He said that back then, and this is rolling up on the Steel Curtain era, that they played for the love of the game and to win, as a Team. Now, with AB and Beckshit being perfect examples, the mindset is Me Me Me. Bunch of selfish mellenial *******, headed up by Andrew Luck and AB. It’s a huge plummet from the days of Bradshaw and Stallworth.

A couple things standing out to me before they even kick off.

The respect during the anthem

The coin toss half hour before the game

The ads!!!!!

Those old capes they wore, be great to have one of those

The players were happy to be in the NFL and get a pay check. Today I want guarantees before they play one down in the NFL, they sign contract then sit out wanting a new contract. Sit at home and give up12-13 million dollars with no thought. Oh yea the game has changed big time.

I was luck enough to go to that game ( 25 dollars by the way) and it was defensive struggle and a score actually meant something. The sad thing the teams of today forget, the Steelers played that game for MR Rooney and the town of Pittsburgh, not their own selfish fantasy world stats and picture on cover of Madden.

As a 8year old boy, I fell in love with a game. That game happened to be the PITTSBURGH STEELERS and yes, they were HEROs to myself and many many more kids along the way. Integrity / honesty / heronism / bigger than life/ ownership (but not acknowledged as a kid) were all things that were a part of the game. The national anthem was an honest right, sportsmanship and team closeness mattered.

Along came more money, more importantly with the money came GREED. GREED is the single MOST identity that has changed the game of football from the core to the everything cost(s) out of control. The cost just isn't inflicted in monetary but also in what one is willing to give up. Integrity has long left the game, use to be a staple of the game. Honesty is only as far as a forked tongue can stretch, again once a part of the game. Fairness is ONLY as deep as the commissioner allows which happens to be less than a negative inch.

Yes the game has changed but yet I still LOVE watching the OLD games. The chess matches against the teams / coaches / owners. Games played as recently as 2008 / 09 are still fairly good but after that it is the meMEme world of football. No respect for the game exists and if it does it is far and fewer in between than once was shown on nearly every play.

Thanks for the link and memory wig !

Salute the nation

Not sure I agree with your assessment of Luck. I know you're from Indy and I'm sure he's taken a beating from the fans and the Press right now but if you heard any of his former or current teammates talk about him I would say he is the polar opposite of *** clown
