Let's say this is several years ago coming into the 2017 season, and Ben pulls the plug 2 weeks before the season because of a lingering injury.

Besides blaming Crazy Todd Haley....

Would the home fans have booed Ben off the field?

Would Ben get more of a pass than Luck because he won Super Bowls and had even more injuries?

Would you be angry at Ben, or salute him as a warrior and most important Steelers' draft choice since at least 1974?

Personally, I would give Ben a pass any time he feels like hanging 'em up, and I'd probably let him Brett Favre it the next July if he needed to..

First. Has BB had significant, year after year injuries like luck? BB has always been beat up, injured, time away,...etc. but I don’t recall a continual 4 yr in a row of endless yearlong rehab injury cycle.

Now. My first reaction would be WTF. God dammit **** coach. Then I’d let passion go and realize he/nor others arrr not my video game players and get ****** up in life. Their bodies.

I said to myself for years I wanted Troy to stop playing regardless of how good he still played as I fear for his life after. Another reason why most here say, RS stay away ....keep pushing but do not get on the field again.

I would hope to have more than 2 weeks, but they would move on

Shazier will never play another down of football. He is being brought along so as to have a meaningful life after football, nothing more.

Correct, but he continues to state he wants to play. My point to the OP is that as a fan of this team, it’s players, I do not want him too and would not boo

I never would have a problem with a player making a decision that is best for his health. Football is a tough hard sport. I'd rather Ben have a great life after football than stay too long and not be able to walk.

Ben won two SB’s. (So far) Luck hasn’t won jack ****.

Apparently, the colts knew of this possibility before the draft and did not plan accordingly, so they have to rely on Brissett or make a trade.

If he had not talked with thwm before the draft that would be ******. Even if Ben did it.

Like I said in another thread, there is no way he didn't tell Irsay months ago that it was at least a possibility. I don't believe any player, outside of AB or Bell, would screw their team that way.

The people that I work with are mostly pissed that Luck waited until Now, instead of before the draft. I just point and laugh because I hate the ******* Colts. But I can understand their anger. Dude quit on the team 2 weeks before the season starts. Shady af.

To me it shows he still wanted to but his body (and ultimately) his mind said no. He tried but couldn’t But I agree with that

The question isn't what would we do if Ben retired 2 years ago, the question is:

How do the window licking Steeler fans that wanted to trade Ben for Luck, feel now?
Window lickers cant figure that **** out.

If Ben quit in this manner I definately wouldn't like it but once imeadiate shock passed and sunk in, I'd totally back him. Now that the dust has settled and those Indi fans have had time to think I'd bet not near as many would boo today, least ways I'd hope not. It sucks but as many here have said, life after football is more important. Those fans that are hanging on to suckism are quite shallow to begin with and thus experience the misery they bring on themselves.

Salute the nation

My emotions would probably get the better of me to start and I'd probably be pissed about the timing.

But then thoughtful logic would kick in and I'd understand he's doing the best thing for his health and family (then realize it's back to The Dark Ages). That's if Ben's situation were exactly like Luck's (which I assume is in your scenario).

The most honest possible answer I believe I can give. Thank god we have a Super Bowl winning warrior at the helm so I don't have to think about this again.

People were seriously wanting that to happen?

He had discussions of this with the owner and the GM before the draft. They hoped for the best, but it didn't happen. His ankle injury didn't get any better, only worse. It was the straw that broke the camels back. He didn't screw the team over, the owner and the GM not putting in a plan for this possibility is what screwed the team.

For them to foot the bill this year makes me think there's no other scenario than this. And possibly not burning any bridges hoping for a Luck return down the road.

"Would the home fans have booed Ben off the field?"

Sure. I was at a game when Bradshaw separated his shoulder and almost the entire stadium cheered.

The moment that Ben alluded of possibly hanging it up after the tequila Todd conflict (though Todd extended Ben's career with his style of play after Arians' harakiri offense) the Front Office did their homework and drafted a QB they rated as 1st round talent.

The colts organization stood there with their thumb up their butt hoping for a miracle (yeap, Luck staying healthy would be almost a miracle) and you can bet your *** he told them he might retire if he didn't recover from his lingering health issues.

If the fans need to boo someone is the FO. Suck for (the new) Luck all over again
