By G.Stryker SteelerNation.com Preseason is halfway over with two games left to play. The Pittsburgh Steelers depth chart appears to me to be: (Players in bold, are projected to make the roster)   LWR (X) Donte Moncrief, Diontae Johnson* * * * * * *Diontae Spencer (+) Tevin Jones (-)   SWR (Y) JuJu Smith-Schuster,* […]

Whhhhoooooaaaaaa, Kemosabee!!!

I posted this little nugget of information in the DK thread re: Bush family reunion...

I hate to 'change the topic' but THIS was the MOST INTERESTING part of the article...

While an interception thrown by Josh Dobbs at the end of the first half of last week’s 17-7 preseason win over the Chiefs was one the Steelers would like to see him not throw, they also didn’t necessarily blame Dobbs for the ball getting intercepted. “Josh had a good two-minute drive at the end of the half,” offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner said. “He’s going to turn it into some points. It’s first-and-6. We’ve got some time left to run two more plays for sure. No doubt he threw a bad ball. But we had a receiver not execute his route, which in turn brought another guy in there. It would have been incomplete. You would have said, ‘Ah, it’s a bad throw by Dobbs. One guy’s mistake complicated another’s.” Looking at the film of that play, it appears the receiver in question was veteran Eli Rogers, though Fichtner would not elaborate. — Lolley
Boy, Dobbs took a lot of flack from most of us for the errant throw.

I'll be the first to apologize - sorry, Josh, it wasn't YOUR FAULT that ELI ROGERS ruined that drive.

This golden nugget may, and I mean 'may', make the decision to cut/stash Hodges a little easier...

I agree w/ your post, except that I think Swiss Beats is ahead of Father Abra...I mean, Eli...

NICE write up "G". I see Eli is in and Switz is out. I think that can change pending on these next two games. This is probably one of the tightest competition for WR spots that I can remember. Have we been this far talented both field and depth wise in a long time? Ward / Holmes / Randle El (?) were pretty good but I'm just going out of memory (questionable at that). Always, thanks for the info

They don't play many two wide receiver sets anyhow, but based on merit which is what everything should be I really dont see to many alignments that dont include Juju and Washington. Moncrief would have to show me a hell of a lot on Saturday to unseat Washington as a starter. Moncrief has never been a 1000 yard guy. Not to say he couldn't be, but Washington looks like if he got the volume he very well could be.

Chyt!!!!!! DJ's preseason stats are spectacular as well. And he was robbed on that TD by phantom OPI...

Suddenly the WR's are a strength...

I see they are still making excuses for poor play for pet players, only this time, they are admitting it is poor play....... it just is not THAT bad.

What a ******* joke.

We did not make the playoffs last year because of a coaches love affair with a back up QB clouded his judgement and made him flow ******* insane.

And another thing. If the reason our kicker is making FG's this year is because he is healthy, begs the question, why the **** was he not on IR last year????

I'm putting Washington's end of season with his preseason and projecting his regular season. I would have to see more of Johnson to consider him in the mix. But you could project him being a slot weapon. Single back Conner/ Samuels. Moncreif/ Washington flanked out. JuJu and Johnson inside. That is a lot of weapons.

If Rudolph was our starter I’d give the number two spot to Washington going in to the 3rd preseason game.

Who number two is to start the season depends on which receivers works well with Ben.

We shall see.

True. Can't argue w/ that...

so keeping Eli instead of Switz?

Heinz will not be happy. Not at all.

I think Switz is a lock.

Not convinced on this take yet....I do like all 3 Deontaes being on the team.

I think Switz is nore depedable, Eli is more explosive....But hey if Eli grabs the spot so be it....Sunday will be critical

Settle this **** on the field, not in the forum

Switz isn't horrible it is just that there might be better options this year. One thing Eli and Switz has over Spencer is NFL game experience. But that won't give the two slot receivers any comfort as Holton has game experience as well. Spencer's return ability might be attractive if they want an upgrade there, Holton is good at STs. Shame we couldn't keep all 8. If I had to narrow it down Eli would get top slot relief when Juju wasn't there. Thinking back I think Tomlin likes his returners to be offense capable. Which puts Switz in the driver's seat because he can multitask. Leaving Spencer as a PS player and Holton on the way out. This is how I think the Steelers approach it. If I had a say I would keep Holton and Spencer.

Swtiz is a better WR than Rogers. Switz is a much better returner than Rogers. Switz can play multiple positions. How can anyone pick Rogers over him baffles me. I would be absolutely shocked if Rogers is on the team ahead of Swtz. I just can't see a single reason for that to be the case. But, Tomlin has done stupid **** like that throughout his career so we shall see.

with coach drake passing,,, who is making this decision?
I think the final 53 falls to Tomlin. Not sure if Colbert gets a say there... For input it would be the WR coach adding his likes. But ultimately the head coach always gets the final decide...

If you look at their pass catching averages, Eli is clearly the more explosive option. Switz is a better returner. But I would think Ben would want the more explosive option...

But I think for downfield targets, Ben has Juju, Washington and even McDonald. Switzer is a good intermediate route runner, a guy who gets 1st downs to keep drives alive. He is also a very solid Plan B at punt returning, if the primary punt returner is injured.

Can't argue with this. We have 8 WRs that could present a decent argument. Nice problems to have...

Through just two games, Diontae Spencer has already forced nine missed tackles. He's still pushing for a roster spot. #Steelers

Interesting tweet..........

Interesting tweet..........

His reverse against Tampa was interesting. He seemed surrounded, blows by the first tackler, and BOOM! Big gain.

Spencer is exciting. I want to see the remainder of his snaps this preseason but if he keeps up the good work I would take him over a 3rd QB or 9th OL...If he keeps it up.
