Mason Rudolph didn't hurt his bid to win the Steelers' No. 2 quarterback job, finishing his preseason start against the Chiefs completing 10 passes on 15 attempts for 77 yards.

I personally think this depth chart of # 2 & # 3 is a bit misleading because of the skill sets each brings....The way I look at these 2 guys (Rudolph & Dobbs) if Ben goes down is match ups....There are certain opponents where Dobbs would be the better choice because of his mobility. Rudolph with his pocket presence would be the better choice for certain defenses. Of course usually on game day there will be only 2 QB's activated so in a pinch it is important to have a clear cut #2.

But if Ben goes down for a few games, they both may end up playing.

What it's really about is reps. Whoever is the #2 gets way more reps because they by rule have to go in the game if the starter is hurt.

If the plan involves passing the football I'd use Rudolph. If the plan involves throwing an int. against one of the worst teams in the NFL then I'd use Dobbs.

I'd cut to trade Dobbs because he's in his third year and by now the Steelers should understand he's not accurate enough and is too mistake prone to be the primary back up. The 3rd string man should be the developmental prospect or rookie draft pick.

Hodges may or may not be better right now, but here's the thing, by his 2nd or 3rd season how good can he be? I read Hodges has been the most accurate QB according to camp sats since they started keeping them.

Tomlin needs to make the right call here, I suspect he won't and Hodges will be cut unless Dobbs can be traded for a draft pick that makes sense,

I think Rudolph is the #2 and it's not even close. JMHO

Coach, I agree with every single thing that you said.

It may be time to go see a therapist.

LOL...We talking about the 3rd & 4th string QB....Damn I wish this season would start....

I'll second that as I'll be singing "one tin soldier rides away" while I'm hopping and skipping to my appointment.

Salute the nation

QB is the most important position on the team. It is the difference between years of mediocrity and years of playoff berths. Post season appearances and Super Bowl Championships. The difference often comes down to QB play.

If we ******* make a decision on a 3rd string QB based on the fact that this 3rd year player can better run the scout team in practice for a division rival that is on our schedule twice rather than this player who is an UFA who holds most every passing record at his collegiate level and has been the most accurate QB we have ever had in camp, I am going to blow a ******* gasket.

Rudolph has moved around in the pocket, bought time and completed passes. When Dobbs sees pocket pressure he runs.

Still think a big uptick on Hodges, he may be a slinger but he moves the pocket and has been accurate in throws.
