Tevin Jones has put together impressive moments in camp and his three catches for 24 yards and a touchdown on Friday showed he can win outside the numbers. Considering the slot options the Steelers have, a bigger guy who can win matchups down the sideline could be a good reserve to keep around.

I saw the thread title and thought it was a Coach thread at first.

I see a very crowded WR room. If 6 is the number, I think Eli is one of the odd man out with Jones as well. VERY close to call at this point.

I would much prefer to see Tevin Jones or Holton make it over Eli Rogers. I've seen what Eli can / can't do and we have a better Rogers in Switzer.

Do we? I would say Eli is more explosive than Switz. But Switz has better hands. They both seem to be able to get open. Switz stays healthier too.

I am in agreement with this. I don't see a need to keep Rogers and Switz.

However, my inclination is that they keep both Rogers and Switz as they feel more comfortable with them than one of the new guys.

I hear yaz ark but keeping two near identical players doesn't seem pro-improvement. Keep one of the two with Switz army knife being the one and keep Holton or Jones to actually give you a differing set of skills at the position. My 3.8 cents worth of input.

Hines57 just ordered his Switzer shirt (in Lumberjack size), so he is very interested in this battle.

I disagree. Eli has way better hands than Switz. Eli is more fluid and explosive. Switz seems to want the ball more and works harder to get it. There's pros and cons to both. It will be interesting to see who wins this battle.

Both seem to be able to get open more than i would have thought. I hadn't realized Rogers was 2"taller. Always seem to be switzer sized, to me.

I agree there are pros and cons to both. The team is comfortable with both, which is why i think replacing one is a tough out for the young guys.

Overall, i think switzer edges out rogers.

Real question is, which of these young guys is going to get picked off of the practice squad so that we can't risk losing him? Is that a danger for any of them? If the team thinks that probability is low, there is no downside to putting them on the PS and keeping switz and rogers. You get to keep both experienced players and get a while longer to evaluate the younger guys.

In addition, Ben is pretty comfortable with both switzer and rogers.

< puts on Cooch hat>

Right now we have 11 wide receivers. Who can make the practice squad is the question. I'd think Colbert would be gun shy to put Juju on the practice squad as other teams might be more inclined to pick him up. Can Juj even make the team with the loads of talent we have now? I'm intrigued by Brandon Reilly. We haven't seen much of him, but my sources tell me that this kid from Nebrasklahoma is the real deal. I would try to sneak Jojo on the practice squad with Spencer, but I'd have never drafted Spence anyway. We could have had N'Keal Harry, who would have given us a bigger WR to pair with Jaja but instead Coblart went with the undersized small and slow LB from Michigan State whom we could have had in the 3rd since no other ILB was taken until then. Who would you have taken in the fifth?

I don't think Holton is practice squad eligible....

He is not. Those on the team that are practice squad eligible:

James Washington - but should make the roster
Diontae Johnson - But should make the roster
Tevin Jones - On PS last year
Trey Griffey - On PS last year
Brandon Reilly
Diontae Spencer - CFL years don't count against putting him on the PS

Steelers should be keeping 2 of them. Spencer is #1 for me, because he's a starter capable call up and diverse. Tevin thus far has had the best camp and would be my #2 followed by Trey who is athletic as hell and makes big plays, he just doesn't have it all put together yet and another year on the PS can really help him out. Reilly is purely a developmental player who can make contested catches deep, but lacks the speed and route running to separate in the NFL.
