A few quick takes from PreSeason Game 1 vs Bucs.....

I know you didn't ask me either, but mine:

- JuJu
- Moncrief
- Washington
- D. Johnson
- Rogers
- Spencer

I was torn between Switzer and Rogers, but Rogers seems to have the upper hand right now, and I really think they like this Diontae Spencer. That's an off-the-cuff take, didn't really think it all through.

Me either, I just shot from the hip.

I know you didn't ask me specifically but here's what I got:

1.) JuJu
2.) Moncrief
3.)Washington
4.) Switzer
5.) Rodgers
6.) One of the Diontaes

One of the Diontaes come on there is literally no chance they are not keeping Diontae Johnson. I like Spencer too, but his path goes through Switzer or Rodgers only.

Who is your six right now?

I will say with Holton coming on, that is what will make it tough for Eli/Switzer to make the team. If the Steelers keep 2 Zs, one of them is screwed:

!.JuJu
2.Moncreif
3.DJ
4.Washington
5.Spencer
6.Switzer/Eli/Holton

6th spot is a bit of a cop out, but all 3 have a shot to make this team. Holton can return, so can Swtiz and Eli. Arrow is pointing up for Holton, and static for Eli and Switzer. I saw Switzer play, but he didn't do much in the game.

The order I have them is the order I have them ranked currently.

I do love Spencer, and I think his return abilities gives him an inside track to making this team (before seeing what DJ can do)

If it's in Order I have Washington higher than DJ and maybe Moncrief. Washington was a high Steelers draft and he popped last night. I like Switzer but with Holton and Spencer with return capabilities he doesnt offer much.

JuJu
Moncrief
Washington
Switzer
Eli
Johnson (If he stays healthy and if not Spencer)

I only slightly disagree with Washington, I think he looked much better than last preseason and more polished.

I rewatched some of his plays and I agree with you. His routes were clean, timing was nearly perfect, showed good hands. Looks like he's ready to take the next step.

Here's my issue with Washington. He's not great at separating. It seems every catch is a combative catch. He was playing against players that will not start in this league, and he should do well against them, and he did. He still has to improve his separation.

I did love his quick out and his backshoulder catches. His cross was crisp as well. He is improving, I just want him to improve against starting caliber NFL corners, because he disappeared last year in games. He does that, and he's a lock.

I am thinking. JuJu, Moncrief,Washington,Johnson,Holton. And either Eli/Spence/ or Switz for the last spot. I am thinking Holton should be looking like a pretty attractive option right now.

Spencer had two 3rd down drops

Eeek. Drive killers.

My biggest pet peeves are QB's with accuracy issues, WR's with the dropsies, and Head Coaches who overlook these key deficiencies in skill players that they fall in love with.

I’m impressed by Hodges

To me it looked obvious Rudolph is our #2 and Hodges will be a developed #3. DOBBS should be traded for what ever value we an get. Phillidelphia / rat birds to bak up Arnold Jakson. I think another pre-season game and start looking for trade partner.

My sentiments on Spener as well. His return ability will keep him over Switz / Eli or at least give him a WAY better shot at the 53.

PS. Pretty solid list / order ope.

Not sure why you all are so quick to drop Switzer from the 6. IMO hes going to play a big role in offense and returns.

Johnson is a lock. No if or buts about it. The only way he doesn’t make the 53 is to go on IR.

Absolutely. He was their hand-picked WR this year. Scouts & coaches must have been collectively on board to pick him in the third round. Given our track record drafting recievers (excluding T. Edwards & Limas Sweed, cough), it goes without saying I'm dying to see what this kid can do on the field.

How long did the bucs keep the starters in? Inwas in a bar and didn't get to see the game too closely. Seems like Dibbs would have been going against better competition, but im not sure how long he played vs. Rudolf or their competition levels.

I saw Dobbs make 2 good runs. Nice to see he can do that if the rush is too much or no one is open. Didn't seem like his first instinct.

I think they kept their startes for the whole first quarter and then some

Even if they had their starters in for awhile it's still Tampa Bay. Jason Pierre-Paul was hurt in an auto accident and didn't play. Last year TB was 29th in the NFL in rushing and 31st in rushing average. So even their starting OL isn't that good. Their defense allowed 29 PPG last year which is 31st in the league. And their secondary is inexperienced and very young. If you think the Steelers had a TO problem just look at TB. They were 32nd in TOs on offense and 22nd in take aways on defense.

Also Bush played the entire first half. White didn't make it through the second series. Again it's pre-season against one of the worst defenses of last year and only marginally better offenses of last year. I'm glad our guys got some good playing time. But it's still TB and their grocery baggers against some of ours.
