Cook's lost his mind
Don't extend his deal.
Fact is it doesn't matter if they extend him or not. It doesn't count against the cap and they can still let him go at any time. It just costs them money. I don't think he's going anywhere. Even if he misses the playoffs this year the same old true tired line will be said "This is the year he has to make it work!!" People said the same thing at the start of last season. Last year was suppose to be his "It's now or never year". We see how that worked out.
with his tenure and their belief in him, I'm thinking he makes north of 7 million a season. I don't think they would intend to eat that. It is 7 million right out of their pocket. If they extend he is coaching.
2 points:
If he isn't extended, that will be a hot take on every sports talk show...literally the only reason to extend now.
Just because the extension distraction is removed doesn't mean Tomlin can't be fired.
I wait to next year to see how this season unfolds. I don't care what the normal routine is, I want better results than 1 and done in the playoffs or like last year no playoffs at all.
Tomlin has been fat and happy for way too long. He needs to earn it.
3 playoff wins in 8 years hasn't earned it.
45 points to Blake Bortles at home hasn't earned it.
In the flow with Dobbs didn't earn it.
Relying on opposing stadium replays to make decisions on challenges didn't earn him any benefit of the doubt.
His seat should be lava-hot.

My simple math:
An atrocious playoff record, plus incomprehensible regular season losses vs. mediocre teams, plus inability to control the locker room, multiplied by a HOF QB at the helm without multiple Lombardi's, equals NO EXTENSION. Put up or shut up. Super Bowl or bust for 2019.
In a sane world Tomlin would be the 9th place coach, or worse, but looking at the list are many of the coaches now listed ahead of him any better? This isn't the 70's with seven future HOF head coaches roaming the sidelines every week. Today your top ten head coaches are Bill Belicheat and nine jabronis no matter how you slice it. Are Reid, McVay, and Hairball really better than Tomlin? I don't think so.
Don't hold your breath. When he was the Vikings' DC his defense had the unique distinction of being #1 against the run and dead last against the pass. Also, I'm still waiting for his secondary coaching background to pay off at some point.
This----^We know what the Steelers have in Tomlin, reflected in the fact the same **** happens every year and nothing changes.
