Is Melvin Gordon Dumb?

Just curious, but how or what could have been done differently? If the guy checks out and becomes a detriment to the team and devalues himself as a trading commodity what then? He basically took all the cards out of the Steelers hands.

You could play hardball with the guy and tell him to shut up or he gets fined or suspended by the team. They probably considered that but thought it was just easier--and better for the team--just to get rid of him.

You can send his *** home. He was still under contract for 3 years I believe. He could either come play and shut his trap or he can be fined and sent home. This also could have been handled differently by Tomlin years ago. The first time he started his "I'm the super star now" act bust his ***. Treat him the same way you treat everyone else. Late for meetings? Sit his *** down. The Steelers had plenty of cards to play. But they folded and Tomlin made it worse by allowing it.

I agree with all of that but I thought we were specifically speaking on last years antics. So you just let him rot and continue to let him destroy the team from within, to save face? To me that would be compounding a bad situation into a worse situation. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on. Which is what they did.

And then you have to look at this is Ben's golden years, a few more chances at the ultimate prize. How much do you want to chance distractions?

I was split on this as back in forth feelings about the situation.

But at the end of the day it is what is best for the team? And at this point it was best to send his disruptive *** off to faiderland.

Send him home the asswhipe probably still twtters it up causing distractions.

I think like Vader said they waited too long and that tumor turned cancerous.

I strongly feel at that point you had to cut the cancer out and move on................

I don't think he destroyed anything. The team wasn't bad last year because of AB. It isn't about saving face. It's about saving a $21 million cap hit, the backbone of your HC and getting a horrible draft pick for the best WR in the game. I can't let all that happen and allow him just to walk away for basically nothing. I'd rather sit him than get a 3rd round pick and move that much money into this years cap.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then. I feel the complete opposite. The time to reign him in was years ago, and none of us knew how bad it really was until that cancer became stage 4. Hindsight is always 20/20. All of Steelers Nation would lost their minds had the coaches benched his *** two years ago.

Minor point I think I read it twice from you, they received multiple picks for AB. I am sure you probably meant it as that. Just clarifying.

Well a good amount would have, and I would have praised it. As I am a firm believer that a team needs to be a team instead of a bunch of individuals.

Yeah, I agree with that, but we are going off the premise that AB was a great teammate at the time. I'm with you though on the fact that NO player is bigger than the team. The Steelers are notorious at keeping bad news away from the public eye and unless they just let us know what an asshat he really was, the fans would have had their pitchforks sharpened and their torches ready to burn down the joint. Just my opinion of course.

I think moving forward I think those torches will stay stored if any player gets disciplined / acts up again.. I think the majority of the fan base has had enough with the drama. And just wants positive results mixed in with team unity.

I'm in that camp for sure. The drama is way over the top and I have grown very tired of it as well.

There are always divas on almost every team. Hell there maybe one still on the team and nobody knows it right? So that is almost a given. Tomlin knew years ago and decided not to do anything. My guess is he will allow it again because that's his style. So this isn't just about divas. It's about what the team gave up and the precedent it sets. Just my opinion but it's over with now.

I know they got a 5th & 6th as well but the Raiders had 4 top 30 picks then had 3 4th round picks. And that's the best they got? I was talk specifically about the 3rd because it was the highest they got. As a Steeler fan this burns my ***. The pats**** can trade a water boy for a 3rd round pick. Rooney screwed the pooch on this one IMHO. Man up and tell AB to sit his *** down. If he has to tell Tomlin to man up then fine or he can tell another HC if Tomlin can't handle it.
