Empty set short passes same as running?

Grilled lobsters, corn on the cob and twice grilled potato

Damn Corpus, I know you're a ways away but I might actually come over because you know your way around a grill & a kitchen. I'll bring that dirtbag Omar with me as well (he's been pining for your food).

What is on the menu for yall tomorrow?

I dont want to brag but mi casa is known for the Brats and Ribeyes every 4th. It's not only good. But better than good.

I put some brisket, ribs and turkey breast in the smoker, doing some burgers and dogs for the kids. Some pasta salad, southern style green beans. I’m using my smoker properly

T G C G T
WR WR QB WR WR (can rotate in TE)
RB

This is still my favorite formation based on the Steelers talent

Looks like this article suggests going with 4/5 wide sets.

I told my GF that I have never cooked a brisket, a smoker is a soon purchase.

I don't mind the empty set, but I prefer it to be created in motion. RB moves from behind the QB to the slot. Then the RB can either go out for a route on a pass, or come into motion on a jet sweep, and take the ball, or run a play action off of it.

It does drive me nuts to see the empty set at the goal line with 2yds or less. I prefer misdirection and doing the above will at least have the D having to watch for the Pass or Run.

Actually, a good question and worth discussion.

I agree that a lot of the short passes could, basically, considered to be "run plays".

I'm not sure where you might draw the line, though. Catching the ball behind the LoS? I wouldn't think so if the pass was way to the outside. I think the writer got a little bit liberal in their analysis of what might be a "run play" from an Empty set.

Overall, I am not a fan of the Empty set. Even if you are doing short pass plays that might be considered Run plays.

As described in some of the plays with Brown, Juju, Switzer, Washington and Rogers though, it does give you pause in that the D, if they are going to blitz, are almost guaranteed to give up 3 yards or more. Somebody will be open short.

Our OL is more finesse than Smashmouth, I think, so these sets may be playing to our strength.

Some passing plays like a shovel pass are pretty much the same concept as a running play.

On an empty set vs man defense a designed Qb run with the receivers running deep can work. Look for the Rats to do this with their no so sharp QB who can run.

Shovel pass is like a screen pass. The difference is how the ball comes out of the QBs hand.

My kitchen stove has two ovens in it. A larger one and a smaller one. I put a Brisket in the smaller one and set real low for about 10hrs. EVERYONE loved it. Don't be feared "Luke" the force is with you and make sure you get a Beacon with the smoker, so yaz don't lose it.

TOTALLY hear yaz Cope. Ariens would go empty set and the "D" would pin their ears back and clobber poor Ben back there. Not even a chance of surprise as I could guess pass / run in arian's offensive CORDINATOR calls.

Now the empty set can be used at times but MUST be sparingly and best of of backfield movement.
