While Bush gives the team much needed speed, I still think we could use more of it at several positions. Is this a Steeler weakness or an over rated portion of what it takes to be a playoff winner?

What specific positions do you think we need to upgrade speed wise. NOT every position can be all world speed and our overall speed, as a team, is as good as most team's overall speed. BINCE is a little slow but he isn't designed for coverage as he is our rock pounder. Please add

I dont usually hate on Coach. Some of his threads are pretty damn good actually. This one sounds like it was started by a 12 year old. What do you mean exactly. Heyward and Tuitt are very quick for their size. Their Nose tackle are too light if anything. Dupree's issues have nothing to do with speed. I wouldn't change anything about Watt. Vince is a run stuffer. If he was more they wouldn't have drafted Bush. Haden is getting older but speed has never been an issue. Your criticism of Davis aside the safeties are stud athletes. On offense I have little idea what they have at receiver. The unit is completely revamped. The backs are fast enough. I actually think Connor has more long speed than Bell. So all in all I have no idea what the **** you are talking about Coach.

From everything I have read, this team has added more speed in almost every position starting back at least a couple years.

ILBer has to be the most with Barron, Bush, Gilbert and possibly Smith.
RB has Samuels, Snell and Edmunds
OLBer has that Adeniyi as a possible
WR has a slew of new faces that are supposed to be upgrades ..speedwise anyway.

I'm looking forward to the process of weeding out down to 53.

Surprises may be in the mix.... and then maybe not.

Iron,

I think our starting corners are slower than average and only one of our top four receivers is a sub 4.45 and he’s really not that fast

Team speed at receiver and cornerback could be better.

At first I was gonna reply, "huh?"

But, now that I've interpreted your post...

Speed is a need - but being in position when you're supposed to be can negate the need of having 11 Usain Bolt's on the field.

Defensively speaking, DB's need speed; but if they're always out of position - what's that speed doing for them? See Artie Burns. The loss of Shazier hurt this team tremendously and I'd venture to say at least one SB. Speed in the middle of the field is IMPERATIVE as well as being in the right place at the right time.

I believe Coach Tomlin and the FO has addressed those very concerns this offseason - and we shall see the results of these selections very soon...

I suggest you use your 'puter and look at our DB's 40 times - there's no relevance in Haden's speed at this point as he's a proven commodity. Artie Burns is the FASTEST DB on the team - sub 4.4 speed, but he doesn't know where to be; so, as I said earlier, what sense does it make putting him on the field??? Nelson ain't slow either; nor is Hilton or Sutton. Layne is a 4.4 guy so, Coach, I'm confused at your analysis...

Coach, Berm's got some very good points and I was going to add the Hayden comment as he is a proven player. He's better than 80% (just a number out of the blue) of CBs out there. As for our receivers, timed clock speed and football speed are two different things. Take JuJu as an example,........ does he seem fast enough, HELL yea he does and I think he is faster football speed than clocked speed. TEAMS should always be looking to upgrade speed but NOT at the cost of football players ability.

There is enough football speed on this team to get the job done. It is just a matter of the team becoming unified and getting the job done.

And anyhow what can be done. The team for the most part for better or worse has been reconstructed from the teams that won championships to younger players. You pick up two ready players in the draft and maybe one in free agency. It takes a long time to increase the overall speed of the team. I believe this team can compete for a playoff spot this year, but a lot of good things would have to happen to compete for a championship.

THAT is a huge factor in team play. With the meMEme twins no longer meMEme-ing, our STEELERS have been taking advantage of being able to unify. It will make a big difference in overall team play and performance.

Speed wise:
Defense

Nelson > Sensabaugh
Layne will be an addition to back end speed plus special teams.
Bush > Bostic
Barron > Burnett
Smith > Gilbert > Dirty Red

Offense
Moncrief is a sub 4.45 (DHB was the only one last year, so it’s a wash)
DJ’s first step explosion they say mimics Brown
Switz and Eli are quick rather than fast which is better in their role in the slot/slant.

What are you basing your rationale from?

Yep, but Moncrief will actually be a part of the offense, so that's a win.

Coach, I usually agree with you, but this assertion puzzles me.

I think you'd have a better point if this was last year; the relatively slowest unit on the team was undoubtedly ILB. And we WERE slow. Bostic and Vince ran like they had cement shoes on.

But not now. Bush and whoever (maybe VW still plays on early and rushing downs) will instantly change that.

DL is 3-4, none of them are supposed to be that fast but in Cam and Tuitt, they are pretty fast for 3-4 DEs.

CB is not slow. Haden can still run, Nelson is not slow. Hilton is not. Our safeties are not stopwatch slow...but they seem to get lost and not be were they are supposed to be but that is another issue.

Everyone acts like JuJu isn't a speed guy, but regularly scorches teams for long TDs, like a 98 yarder. He looks plenty fast to me. Moncrief is not slow at all. DJ is pretty fast. Switz is quick. Washington came in lean and faster this year.

RBs? No, we don't have Chris Johnson in his prime, but they are just fine, speed wise. Vance is a pretty explosive TE.

I just don't look at this team and say, "Boy they need more speed." Not at all.

We are not a team of burners...AND we have lacked elite speed teamwise for quite some time. As great as Bell was I never saw him run away from anyone

We are not an elite speed team in the secondary & do like my secondary to have speed to cover..... That is why I was so high on Greedy. But, I like the Layne pick & he seems to be the complete package

I read somewhere that if we held a 40 yard dash competition that Devin Bush would win. That’s very unusual that a LB is the fastest player on the team. We have adequate speed, but it surprises me that we don’t have a couple “burners” on the team that can just flat out fly

posts about reading something somewhere are frowned upon, that is a lot like I heard from a friend of a cousin of a guy who met somebody who knows that Bush is the fastest guy on the team.

Sources are important.

Whatever, I didn’t think that saying that Devin Bush MAY have the fastest 40 time on the team this year was the type of statement that needed to be sourced anyways. It’s not like I was breaking news here, but just to make you happy I’ll be sure to take notes of every article I read from here on out in case I happen to mention it here and need to give a source.

The year Shazier got hurt, he was the fastest player on the team during a race in Latrobe. DHB and a couple other skill players were involved. There was a video of it on Steelers.com for a long while.

But "sources" are often just someone's opinion to begin with. So what then?

I can link an article of someone's opinion, and...............?
