We've seen Tomlin's best and the last two years were it. They did little in the off-season to help the defense (like firing Butler and most of the coaches) and rookies rarely make an impact. I can handle another season with no playoffs if it means that Shades gets on with his life's work.

I was pissed that Butler wasn't fired. I will say though, since Butler is essentially demoted, and Tomlin is 'in charge of the D' now. Tomlin is even more on the hook for the team's performance this year.
 
I READ CONNER WAS IN WAY BETTER SHAPE AND MEAN (sorry caps) ready to play. I think with his injury late last year he feels he has something to prove as far as full season of play. Do you think he, himself gets tired of all the comparison(s) to LeMEon ??? I'd think it would get old but James Conner went out last year and shut a lot of people up. Can he do it again????

James Conner is an incredible human. No one reacts to adversity like him (other than Shazier). Dude had Cancer, injuries, now a big knee injury, if anyone is coming back stronger than ever it's this guy. I don't expect him to have to shed Bell's shadow. He did it last year making a pro bowl. This year, he just wants to be the best runner he can be. I can't wait to watch him again!

Should they have already gotten Mike Hilton taken care of IYO, and do you think Ola has a real chance of running Dupree out of town? Also, I keep hearing about competition at RT but Feiler (IMO) was really solid and playing his best down the stretch last year.

Yes! Same here. Recently watching his highlights, I forgot how good he really is.
 
Cope, what about TE? Think one may be had after the initial cuts? According to DKSports Grimble really seems to be focused and improving in all areas. Over/under he and Vanimal will remain the 1 & 2 for the position?

I love Hilton. He's one of my favorite defender. I would have extended him yesterday, but he's an exclusive rights FA, so he isn't going anywhere. He does deserve a new contract though.

I do think Ola has a shot. If he unseats Dupree as a starter, it's an upgrade to the position.

Competition at RT is 3 deep for starter, Don't sleep on Hawkins.

IT's good to have a starter like Vance, especially if he stays healthy. Xman is a really good receiver and made an unfortunate play at the goal line vs teh Raiders, that cost us a game. I like his potential, but I do see the opportunity for an upgrade in free agency. There will be someone available after cuts this season. It will be interesting if the Steelers grab one to upgrade the depth.
 
Who gets the backup FS gig?

Cut wise, when you get surprises, it's usually underperforming stars that are paid too much.

I think both kickers are in open competition. So we could lose Boz or Barry depending on competition this year. Boz would be the biggest money cut.

Here's a couple possible surprises:
Dupree - If Ola shows he's starter capable, and if Dupree has a setback
James Washington - there is a lot of competition at WR, and if he didn't improve, he will lose his spot.

Dobbs may be a trade option, but that's all I see for known players moving.

I will go on record as saying zero chance Washington gets cut. He is going to blow it up this year. I say he has a chance at 1000 yard season. and no not related to him

I really hope you're right, because he was bad last year. Like the worst production we've ever had at the Z receiver bad. He couldn't get open, and he couldn't catch. He's like Limas Sweed was, but Limas could at least get open deep. He just couldn't catch. Shorter receivers can still play the Z well. Look at Wallace, he was one of our best Z receivers ever, and he was short. I want him to do well, because it will make our team better, but he's having trouble separating from defenders, and then has trouble catching contested balls. He improved in December last year, when his route running improved, so I hope that continues. He's always been a willing blocker, and is a hard nosed receiver. I just want to see more Bolden out of him and less Sweed.

Surprisingly, I think they have a better chance to be top 5 in D than O. Too much transition to expect another top 3 finish on O. D has been built for this season. They are fast and should be disruptive this year. I'm feeling they are going to be fun to watch. Though I think both will be top 10 for sure.

I´d be very happy with double top 10, much more than best O and ****** D
 
My gut, which happens to be tired as it went through a very tough KAYAK workout tonight, says between top 5 and top 10 on both sides of the ball. That's a good step up for the "D" and slight slip for the "O" but both with in SB striking lightning to number 7.

Excellent analysis. Personally, I think Johnson is the better WR, but time will tell.
