Some Observations From The Vets

The rook I’m going to watch closely is Justin Night Train Layne, CB our of MSU.
I think he will play with lots of attitude since falling some in the draft and could be a real surprise.
Should get interesting!

I doubt he sees much playing time this season if the starters stay healthy

Watt will be showing what most here are saying.............. Dupree will take another step up but won't be able to live up to the expected total superstar status that most here think he should be. Add in the safety tandem and other existing parts and this "D" will improve vastly over last year, he'll I'd think the "D" actually hold and wins some games this season. All hinges on the "true" defensive CORDINATOR...........

Seems Chikillo is turning into a locker room fave based on players social media.
Hopefully these guys just play some ball with no drama.

I'm gonna go with Armchair Analyst.

Yea man I agree. Idk what he’s there for other than moral support at this point lmfao. Mediocre at best on the field but a great public representative for the team. Was just wondering why he sticks around.

Just announced he retired from the NFL. He did 4 with the Bills, 4 with the Steelers, then did a 1 year deal with the Cards but landed on IR.

Like hearing about this kind of news instead of that OLD bullshit meMEme crap.

TJ is just getting started and yes he will put up GREAT numbers. Really like OP list of scuttlebutt, awesome.!!!!!

TJ is a great player and I'm amped he is a Steeler. But he doesn't have the power to get sacks when a decent OT is on him. Unlike the top tier sack guys, he doesn't quite have the power to bull rush OTs, like
his brother has (and Mack, Von Miller). He will still get a lot of sacks, but more from hustle than out and out overpowering an OT. I've seen him stone walled a lot of plays where he goes nowhere.

Those are all guys who would make this be a monster year for the team. They do well and this team can be very dangerous

Watt's motor is running full bore on each play and seems to be worn down at end of season when he truly is needed. Someone needs to step up and be able to play a consistent role to rest Watt.

I think your assessment might be wrong:

"According to @PFF, #Steelers OLB T.J. Watt was rated among the NFL's best pass-rushers over the final 5 weeks of the 2018 regular season. His pass-rush win rate of 26.6% in that span was the best in the NFL in that span."

And I can't find it at the moment, but there was a graph showing Watt through weeks 1-9 and 10-16 and his second half was definitely improved.

One says he can't rush worth a **** and the other says best in the NFL. I'll take the latter as fact........................................

So I don't have any links at the moment, but guys are talking about some new additions (and others) that have raised their eyebrows in camp so far:

Donte Moncrief - Said he was a really smooth route runner and very physical (which surprised me).

James Washington - Almost like night and day in his conditioning and his confidence.

James Conner - He's cut, he's mean, he's ready to kick some *** basically.

Devin Bush - Yeah it's not football in pads, but the word is his athleticism is incredible. I mean we knew this already but seeing it in action apparently really wow'd a couple guys, including Cam Heyward. Just hope the guys in front can help keep him clean.

Anyways, nothing earth-shattering or in-depth analysis here, just a few blurbs so far.

You can bibble in Ark's drink any time you want to!!!

Good point that he has multiple responsibilities, but even so, he had 13 sacks and 6 FFs last season and I honestly think he's just scratching the surface. This dude is going to be a superstar in my opinion.

Coach TOMLIN SUCKS for picking him!!!

Figured I'd drop this here, David DeCastro on Ben:

"Ben’s always been a great leader to me and I’m excited to play with a guy like that. I have a ton of respect for him. How could you not?"

Cope, you may be relieved to hear this one:

Ben Roethlisberger on rookie WR Diontae Johnson: “The one thing I noticed was he caught every ball I threw to him. I even threw him some bad balls on purpose, throw some high, behind him, just to see if he would catch them. And he caught every one. It was impressive.”

I got a good feelin' about Diontae Johnson!!!

Actually, Tomlin deserves as little credit for picking Watt as i think Cowher should get for "picking Ben". Both fell into their laps. At least Rooney didn't have to step in bnb on Watt.

Just curious as to how you know this for a fact????? I guess I'm wondering on the Rooney Ben thingy also............NOT HEAR-SAY crap either.

On purpose?!?

Come on Ben! Its ok to say i threw a few bad passes and he still caught them.

You got nothing to prove to anyone.!

Ha, good point Dino. Just like when Ben said he was giving Steven Nelson confidence by letting him pick off his first pass in OTAs.

Games > Preseason games > Camp practices > Mini camp in shorts.

The only comments I like to hear on mini camp is by the veterans or coaches on how quickly a rookie or new player picked up on the schemes.

Well no **** Captain Obvious. Hence the title of the thread. And coaches aren't heard from much during OTAs.

If somebody shares a tidbit that's not a super duper vet, skip over it.

All those nouns means nothing.....

The only thing You should want to hear is “No Injuries occurred” period.
