Thoughts on Mason Rudolph?

I could be wrong. He just gives off that vibe to me. It might be rubbed off by now - no big man on campus anymore.
 
Maybe I havent seen enough to feel good about him but I do. I think he has a lot of potential. Coach him up Ben.
 
I haven't seen enough of Rudolph to have an opinion, one way or another. I guess he looks the part at first glance. I reckon we shall find out what he's made of, sooner or later.

I'm always biased against QBs that come from high scoring spread offenses. For so many of these guys it's just pitch and catch. No difficult reads and no difficult throws. Half these guys have the coach signaling in who to throw to. Tons of quick, short, throws into big windows.

The thing I liked about Rudolph is that he made a lot of vertical throws. Not just a bomb to a guy who is running 10 yard past the safety, but long throws down the seam into tight windows.

Washington wasn't winning any sprint competitions. Rudolph and Washington had a ton of completions due to ball placement and contested catches.

The reason so many of these spread QBs struggle is because they are afraid to throw into a tight window because they never had to do it. Now they get to the NFL where guys are rarely wide open, unless they play for the Pats and their offensive pass interference based playbook.

I liked Rudolph more than Rosen

Agreed. Mahomes came from a similar system throwing into similar tight windows, hasn't seemed to hurt him, although he's more athletically gifted

Never saw any ego from him entering the NFL. Not quite sure who you were watching last year or this offseason.
 
Seriously?? We are bashing this kid?

We got him in the 3rd round. The Steelers had a First round grade on him in the draft that brought the Browns Mayfield and the Ravens Lamar Jackson.

We could be laughing about this for a decade.
 
He was a good value where they took him. But he's unlikely to become a starter or even play in a handful of games under his rookie deal. Given our cap structure it would be nice to transition to a cheaper QB for a year or two after Ben retires. Best case is Mason maybe gets a couple starts in a row and looks more than competent and you can flip him.
 
I think this preseason either Dobbs or Rudolph are moved. Best case scenario is they both have lights out preseasons and we can easily move either for a second round pick. Worst case scenario we have two shaky backups and one never dresses in 2019.

I doubt we move either one. And to get a 2nd rounder? Lol. Would be funny though seeings that what we got for AB.

How can we have. "thoughts on Mason Rudolph when all we have seen is last year's pre season. That none of you really remember. We have real camp battles to follow. Right OT,. Mlb,. A missing TE,. Etc. So put me in the camp of who cares and ask me again on Aug 30th. Capiche?
