4/30 Ask Drunk Cope: Post Draft

Alexander Myres/CB Houston

Height: 5110
Weight: 192
40 Yrd Dash: 4.53
20 Yrd Dash: 2.62
10 Yrd Dash: 1.56
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 14
Vertical Jump: 36 1/2
Broad Jump: 10’10”
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.18
3-Cone Drill: 7.07

decent player, figured he would go undrafted. had something like 55 tackles last season with 1 pick and 7 or 8 passes defended. was a solid special teams player

nice to see him get a chance but I would have preferred to see Garrett Davis signed, I think he could have won a spot on the team.

Myers has a chance to stick especially if he can flourish on special teams

he did return a blocked field goal 90 yards for a TD as a junior

click the link....he is not afraid to lay the wood

That's a big time hit there Coolie! Hopefully he can do something.

Any chance we see Cam Sutton returning kicks next year? He was a good returner in college.

Best guess at what happens with Artie Burnt?

Artie worked with revis this off season and has regained his confidence. Shows up at camp in great shape and makes 3 picks in the preseason . Starts all 16 games. Sensabaugh released at the end of camp.

Oh good they will resign Sens.

Sutton has to be in the coach's ear to get reps in the return game. You may see it in the preseason, but ultimately I think Dionte Johnson will be our new PR KR with Switzer back on KRs with him.

I mentioned earlier, that I want to see Burns show us something this year. It's his last chance. If he shows us that he improved, and got mentally tough, we all make out on that. If he shows that he just can't deal with making mistakes, he won't make the roster. We should all know by the 3rd preseason game, how Burns' future with the Steelers will look.

I absolutely do not want to see Switzer with the ball in his hands.

Burns should be a cut with $1.7M in cap savings and $1.2M in dead cap money. If not, he would need to play lights out this year to get that 5th year option and I just can't see him earning that based on his past performance.

If we traded for Switzer and immediately stuck him in the PR game, I don't see Sutton taking on that responsibility this year - and I have high hopes for Cam. I'm hoping that another year on roster will slow the game down for him and some of Haden's abilities rub off on him. the guy is 5'11", 190 - good size for a CB (nearly identical size as Haden).

I don't see us putting Johnson at KR in crucial games and letting a rookie NOT make a **** up on our splendidly spectacular special teams. Look for Switzer to remain the primary PR guy.

Del and TMC would both tell you, drafts have runs on positions. Some teams like players for different reasons. Steelers like Corners that can tackle and play both zone and man. From what I saw on Lane, he's a playmaker. His INTs are athletic, and he reacts and plays the ball cleanly when he defends. He's not a clutch and grab guy.

Layne has very long arms for a CB - 33", the same as Nick Bosa. For comparison, Murphy from Washington 30 1/8", Williams 31 1/2, Bunting 31 3/4, Mullen 31". The only ones who compare are Baker and Ya-sin at 32" and Williams (Patsies selection) at 32 1/2".

I like the pick. However, in looking at video, Layne does tend to grab a bit. He needs to improve that aspect from what I saw. That said, he is a guy who can play both man and zone, jam the receiver, throw him off his route, and bat down passes.

I'm hoping cam Sutton gets the nickel CB spot away from Hilton, it would be a great place to get his snaps and add experience in case the team needs him at any time as an outside CB. In that case Hilton gets back to the slot

Good to hear from you!

We'll see in the return game, but I will say Johnson, even though he's a rookie, he has the best chance on the team to take one to the house.

Burns could get cut before camp in a financial move, but it doesn't cost them any more money to see what they have in camp before making that cut. He has the measurables, he just doesn't have the mental toughness. If he somehow found that, he can be a productive player.
