My final Steelers mock draft

I’m going to do options A, B, and C since I am not sure who will be there and especially in round one will shape the next few picks. Thus to follow along for the first three rounds 1a. & 2a will go together.

1a- Devin Bush ILB Michigan
No surprise here. Steelers are looking for a versatile middle backer and Bush fits the bill.

1b- Clelin Ferrell Edge Clemson
Little surprise here but the Steelers are in need of that opposite pass rusher of Watt and Dupree has made strides but still has a very large step to take to be that guy. And Dupree is injury prone which makes this more than just a luxury pick.

1c- Greedy Williams CB LSU
Checks the boxes for power 5 school, Colbert and Tomlin pro day visit, and need position. Steelers are set with Haden and Nelson this season but 30 year old Joe Haden is only under contract for this season then an UFA and we have lots of questions after him on the current roster.

2a- Chase Winovich OLB Michigan
Yes, for the fun of it the Steelers go back to the Michigan well to get their edge guy. Winovich is an above average athlete with a non stop motor. And this former TE is still learning the position... remind you of anyone?

2b- Isaiah Johnson CB Houston
Coolie gets arrested for public masturbation. But seriously Johnson is physically impressive scoring off the charts in the sparq test.

2c- Charles Omemihu DL Texas
Steelers have Heyward getting older and Tuitt who is oft injured. Maybe a luxury pick but someone the Steelers have definitely shown interest in and likely because of the reasons mentioned above.

3a.1- Julian Love CB Notre Dame
Love fits perfectly in the current defensive system and reminds me of a Rhonda Barber or even a little Joe Haden. Technically sound and very cerebral player.

3b.1- Miles Boykin WR Notre Dame
Physically a freak who just tested off the charts. Lots of questions why he wasn’t a starter earlier but Steelers definitely have interest in him.

3c.1- Darnell Savage S Maryland
Steelers have shown lots of interest in Savage and even though I’m not sold on him I think the Steelers do go safety at some point in this draft.

3a.2- Josh Oliver TE SJSU
Second third round pick and the Steelers filled their big holes early. So they give Ben a second TE to throw the all to. Oliver is big, fast, runs good routes and has great hands.

3b.2- Ben Burr-Kirven ILB Washington
Steelers missed out on Bush this draft so they comeback later and get a Bush like ILB. Burr-Kirven is growing on me when I look for a value ILB in the later rounds.

3c.2- Dillon Mitchell WR Oregon
Steelers like going WR in the third and Mitchell seems to be a guy that should be looking to come off the board around here. He’s a very sudden athlete that is very smooth and effortless on the field. Some questions on his hands imo but the Steelers are definitely interested.

So from here on out I’m going to draft the rest like it’s my Bush, Winovich, Love and Oliver draft.

Round 4- Gary Jennings Jr WR WVU

Round 5- Ugo Amadi S Oregon

Round 6a- Travis Homer RB Miami

Round 6b- Matt Gay PK Utah

Round 6c- Diontae Johnson WR Toledo

Round 7- Jack Fox P Rice

We’ve got 10 picks and I suspect we trade a few to move up or for higher round 2020 picks but if we were so inclined to take both a kicker and punter this would be the year. And of course this team did draft a long snapper who couldn’t even make the team.

I'd just like to say that I really hope it's one of these two at 20. Dupree has shown he isn't the answer IMO.
 
the second might be a little early for Johnson.but not grossly so. I would love that pick

Round 3 Pick 11 (G.B.): Deionte Thompson, FS, Alabama (A+) - Homer pick but Thompson is a ballhawking safety, who will only get better at the NFL level. Write it down.
Round 4 Pick 12 (G.B.): Jamel Dean, CB, Auburn (A+) - Sigh...I know he played at Auburn but his skillset was too much to pass up w/ this 4th round pick.
Round 4 Pick 20: Miles Boykin, WR, Notre Dame (A+) - Late pick for our WR needy team. The FO has shown interest and I like him a lot too!
Round 5 Pick 3: Bobby Evans, OT, Oklahoma (A+) - The departure of Marcus Gilbert makes this a requirement in this draft.
Round 5 Pick 12 (G.B.): Isaac Nauta, TE, Georgia (A) - Nauta is an underrated TE that can come in and easily match the production that Jesse James had.
Round 6 Pick 2: Shareef Miller, DE, Penn St. (A+) - Miller is a beast off the edge. No question - this is a steal if he's here.
Round 6 Pick 34 (COMP): Travis Homer, RB, Miami (Fla.) (A+) - Florida equates to track speed. We need a change of pace back to add to the arsenal.
Round 7 Pick 5: Hunter Renfrow, WR, Clemson (A+) - More depth and a pass catching demon in the slot.

Berms mock adds a early 4th and a extra 5th with the 1/13 pick.
 
I like your mock. I don't believe they will get Bush, but I like your optional picks and would love Winovich in 2. Would even move up to get. As far as the kicker goes take one late. If he gets beat out no big. Maybe even stash him on the practice roster till you know if Bos is fixed in regular season.

Thompson fell off this year somewhat. But I think round 3 is solid value for him........
 
if we draft a kicker and a punter, I hope both of them kick you in the sack.

Johnson is more of a round three guy. Oliver more of a round 4-6 guy.

FINAL MOCK, rounds 1-3

Round one


I'd like White but he's not dropping to pick #20.


Top choice: Cornerback Greedy Williams. I'm sold on his cover skills, speed, and ball skills. While he isn't good vs. the run, some of the best cover corners aren't either. I want a guy who surrenders a few yards, can play press man, can shadow a receiver deep and gets turnovers, and I think that person is Williams. Haden might only have 2 more good seasons left. The way the NFL is, the Steelers need to play 5 DB's. It's a passing league. Given his age, I believe he can add more weight.


Second Choice. Wide Receiver Metcalf. I'm not saying he'll be a top player on most teams, I'm saying with Ben and our Offensive line he's the deep threat we need can be Wallace or Bryant type of player minus the off the field stuff. A back-breaking weapon X type, who will demand teams scheme for him, take attention away from Ju-Ju and give our backs more room to run on certain formations. Not just a speed guy, he's tall and can make some did you see that type of catches, meaning he's a red zone threat.


Third Choice. NT/DT Dexter Lawerence. We could use a physical force in the middle, and Tuitt has missed 2-4 games for the last four seasons and doesn't always play up to his ability. Adding Lawrence to the mix will help the soft middle run defense, and add juice to the 4 man rush, plus give us extra versatility if either Heyward or Tuitt miss games. My hunch is the Steelers like this guy.


Fourth Choice: ILB Bush. While I think he'll be a solid player, I'm a bit concerned about his lack of size, and ability to fight off blocks. Michigan was loaded on defense, and the talent around him might have made him look a bit better than he really is. To be honest I'm not convinced he's that much better or even better than ILB's who will be drafted after him





Round two. Much depends on which position we pick in round one, but I'll list my top 4 choices which could flip deepening on who we pick in round one.




Top choice OLB / Edge Winovich - An intense edge rusher with speed and a never-ending motor, Winovich had 17 tackles for a loss and 68 total tackles. Sack production is good, not great. Do the Steelers really want to pay Bud Dupree 10 million a year? I think not.


Second choice. CB Baker. Baker to me projects as a solid #2 corner in the NFL. He's not that big or fast, but he's battle-tested in the SEC for 4 years. I read he did not interview well. If the Steelers don't pick a corner in round one, they better do so in round two.


FS Savage. Free safety remains an issue. Savage to me is the ideal deep safety for zone or man. Very fast and quick, with ball skills. Slightly undersized, the clips I saw show a guy with lots of energy who takes good angles to the ball. He'd take Sean Davis Job. Depth at safety is thin


ILB Wilson. Wilson seems to have above average to very good ability across the board on the film I saw, but I don't think he'll be great. A three down ILB who can cover though, and we need that. I wish he was a faster, but then again if he was he would not be here for us in round two. I wonder how much of his game shined thanks to Alabama's very pro like DL in from of him.




Round three. With two picks in this round, the Steelers can fill needs trade up if needed. I think the talent drops a bit by round three.





Top choice - ILB Burr-Kirven. Ultra-productive worked out like a first-round pick in the 40-yard dash and 20-yard shuttle. Like Bush he's a smaller ILB, but can this guy use his hands to shed blocks. Top motor and football IQ. Played in the Pac 12, so that's not a plus. Most don't see him as around three guy, but I like him.


Second choice. CB Love. Love is an ideal slot guy, who excels at breaking up passes. When you consider how often the Steelers uses 5 DB's, the slot man can pretty much be considered a starter. Very quick.


Third choice. WR Isabella. Outstanding production and speed, with value as a return man or surprise RB, Isabella can fill a lot of roles. While his competition wasn't good, he did light up Georiga for 15 catches for 219 yards and 2 TDs.


Fourth choice. ILB Pratt. A boom or bust type due to just one-year starting, Pratt looks like he's the goods. He's big, he can hit and he can run, but he's also raw. Excellent production. Not sure why it took him this long to start, but it could suggest his football IQ is not the greatest. On the other hand with some patience and good coaching you could really have something.


Fifth Choice: We have two 3rd round picks, so I'm going five deep here. DB I Johnson. He's got height and speed. S0-so tackler, I think he'd make a fine free safety,

Round 4 Pick 26 (DAL): Justin Hollins, OLB, Oregon (C+) well built hybrid edge rusher who could replace Bud
Round 4 Pick 34 (DAL): Alize Mack, TE, Notre Dame (B) good size vertical Te to replace james
Round 6 Pick 2: Devine Ozigbo, RB, Nebraska (A+) best RB i was looking for higdon here home run hitter with bulk as well
Round 6 Pick 11 (DET): Albert Huggins, DT, Clemson (A+) depth at NT as if you go 3-2-6 you could have tyson at DE and him at NT
Round 6 Pick 19: Corbin Kaufusi, DE, BYU (B+) someone to push ld or groom or cam
Round 6 Pick 20 (BALT): Austin Seibert, K, Oklahoma (B-) need more competition
Round 6 Pick 34 (COMP): Juwann Bushell-Beatty, OG/OT, Michigan (A) depth in case Hawkins gets but good competition a
Round 7 Pick 5: Jake Bailey, P, Stanford (B) i am not happy with our punting, I want to see a stop to aussie rugby punting good leg should be and ine my view would win.

don't act like your the only one who has him slotted as a likely 3rd rounder. That analysis is all over the web...hell I have posted it several times myself and before you try to claim it. I was the first to post it here.

It was a reply to Bermuda who didn’t have a clue. We see if stupid takes the bait.

I had a mid round 3-4 grade on Johnson and he was in my mocks well before the media caught on to where some have him now.

I never said I was first on the analysis but I could have been first to mock him for round three here.

With your luck the 2019 Houston guys in the draft will be playing for the bengals.
