Once the Super Bowl is over, the media hype around football tends to die down a bit.* Speculations on free agents, retirements, trades, and of course, mock drafts, fill our yearning for football until we finally get to mini camps.* Since the first mock draft rolled out, one name has been pretty synonymous with the […]

I'd be one happy Steelers fan if the Steelers draft Devin Bush but in order to get him they will need to trade up at least 6 spots to get ahead of DaBungles who will draft him if he's there. Fundamentally he's one of the best players in the draft! He might have a chip on his shoulder....what kid doesn't but what I love about this kid is that he doesn't showboat and just goes out and make plays......I love the fact that he just goes and tackles the ball carrier and gets up and goes back to the huddle. A no-nonsense guy who really would fill the biggest void on our Defense left by the injury to Shazier.

Truth... this kid is a football player and plays angry with heart. The one player is trade up for in this draft.

Cinci pick is 11. Pitt will need to trade up to 10. However, draft pundits are now saying the new coach may want to concentrate on offense, maybe a QB if Murray falls. Iowa TE is a sleeper to Cinci too.

Even if the Bungles pass on Devin Bush we need to be aware that the Ratbirds need LB'er too and not let them trade up ahead of us.

I really like Devin Bush as well. Checks all the boxes as just a dynamic football player. As much as I like Hargrave, I'd like to see a beast in the middle in the mold of a Casey Hampton taking up those blockers so Bush can be the heat-seeking missile he is.

I think that beast is Dexter Lawrence and he could maybe be had as late as the 3rd round. Judging from their list of pre-draft visits etc., It doesn't look like they're interested in a big boy like him though. Anyways would love if they could land Bush. Nothing wrong with Bush.

I’m all in on Bush.. he’s my favorite player in this years draft in a position of need for us. We seldom get to draft this high, so I believe we will trade up and draft him (unless of course he’s drafted #5 by Tampa as I just saw in cbs most recent mock draft) Bush is a heat sinking missile with 4.43 wheels, never gives up on a play and can cover and catch as well as any ILB I can recall in quite a few years. To me he’s a can’t miss prospect, a game changing, build your entire defense around type of player. Word is the Steelers are in love with his game as well which is music to my ears cause he would immediately make our entire defense better by leaps and bounds . I would actually take Bush ahead of Devin White, because of his versatility and production. If you haven’t had a chance to watch this kid play, pull up a video on YouTube and see for yourself. He’s a disruptive force that the QB must account for on every play. I’m hoping White falls outside the top 10 and the moment he goes off the board we need to trade up immediately and draft him, because if we don’t someone else will. We can’t go wrong with either Bush or White, but if we don’t come away with either of these two studs I will view this draft as a failure. We didn’t have the opportunity to draft an ILB last year because all the guys we were interested in were already drafted. (Why on earth our scouts couldn’t see that Darius Leonardwas gonna be a beast in this league is beyond me because he’s the total package and I would be ecstatic to have him in the middle of our defense and he fell to the second round). I like Roquan Smiths game and would have been happy to get him last year. Vander Esch looks like the real deal, but he’s not in the same league as Bush or White. I’m not sold on Rashaan Evans so I’m glad Tennessee drafted him last year, because that gives us this opportunity to get one of the 2 Devin’s to be the QB of our defense for the next decade plus. By grabbing Nelson, we’re set at CB. Of course we should still draft a CB with one of our 1st 4 picks, because we have nobody capable to step in if either Haden or Nelson goes down to injury and Haden isn’t getting any younger.. the problem is, I can’t tell who the best CB in this draft even is. Could be one of those years where a 2nd or 3rd round corner ends up being the best guy in the draft so I’ll wait til day 2 to address the position. The draft is loaded with talent at WR and we always find gems outside the 1st round so I’ll wait on receiver as well. We obviously have no shot at Josh Allen or Nick Bosa so I’ll wait on edge rushers as well, there’s good talent available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and we still have Dupree and his 9.5 million dollar contract anyways. So that leaves us with ILB where we have an enormous hole left by Shazier and 2 studs available to us with a trade up in a year we’re drafting in the top 20 with 10 picks at our disposal.. I’ll go out on a limb and say Devin Bush will be a Steeler and I’ll be in Nashville screaming my head off when it happens. This will be the beginning of bringing back the old school nasty Steeler defense!

This is not gonna be popular but I hope we don't get Bush. He is not Ryan Shazier, or anything close. If you watch full game vids of Bush vs Shazier you can see it clearly. Shaz had 170 solo tackles his So/Ju years and Bush couldn't reach higher than 44/41=85 in the same period. Shaz was special. Bush is a "heart/heady" player who plays over his head.

I started looking more closely when I heard the interest in Winovich. I watched Winovich's highlights. What caught my eye was Bush getting mauled on almost every play. Then, I started watching games and saw the same.

To me, IF we want a 3rd down backer (w Barron, that's all any rookie will be getting, IMO), we should look at David Long from WVU. He is as explosive as they get (Big 12 DPOY) and has nearly 2x the production of Bush and is just as fast and twitchy. I'm not sure if the ILB draft class is just "weak" this year or what but I don't see a Ryan Shazier at all in this draft.

I think we're better off if he is picked and a good DL player like Christian Wilkins, an Edge player like Winovich (who can also play upright in the middle, a plus) or a solid CB/S who can cover and tackle is available at #20.

I don't see the top TE, WR or CB being there and I don't think it matters as this draft is full of productive WRs and TEs and the CBs are hit or miss.

I agree that we most need a replacement for Shaz BUT, who could we get that is remotely comparable who would also be an impact in year one?

It helps that our ILBs last year were made up of Bostic (pick 50), Williams (pick 206) and LJ Fort (an UDFA). Anyone might look like an upgrade.

What's not funny is that our ILBs we rolled with last year had comparable college stats to Bush in solo tackles and Fort and Bostic had 4 more INTs than Bush in college.

White and Bush might be the best in this draft class but I doubt it. Neither had prolific careers, IMO. Neither will be a game changer like Shaz...and Shaz even took a bit of time to get it right. He was a highly productive player.

If we are going to look for an improvement at ILB, it shouldn't be so hard that we have to throw a #1 pick at it.

White is a protypical ILB in today’s NFL with his size and speed.. Bush is about an inch shorter and his wingspan isn’t as long, but they can both fly and they both weigh right around 240 which is right where they should be. I saw somewhere the other day where White was being compared with Ray Lewis.. pretty high praise and to me, Bush reminds me a heck of a lot of Patrick Willis. All athletic ILB’s are gonna be a bit undersized and can get eaten up by the big guys, but that’s why Heyward, Tuitt and Hargrave are there, to create lanes for the athletic LB’ers to get through. I like the addition of Barron.. dude just lays it to you, but Bush would bring a totally different element to this defense. He’s a speedy, gifted player that can drop into coverage..and he’s always around the football and to me that’s the most important thing. Our defense misses Shazier and to me, Bush could step in and do most of the things Shazier did for us. It’s not like Shazier didn’t get swallowed up from time to time either. Shazier was and 2 inches taller, but 10 lb’s lighter. I like David Long too and if we miss out on the 2 Devin’s we should take a good hard look at him, but you can’t compare production between a player from the big 12 to a player from the big 10.. two totally different styles of football and they run twice as many plays per game in the Big 12.. he’ll the final scores are always in the high 40’s or 50’s...they don’t play defense in the Big 12 so it’s hard to judge the talent much in the same way as judging WR’s and QB’s from Houston and Texas Tech. Don’t get it twisted though, Bush and White anchores the Defense for Michigan and LSU respectively and Michigan was the #1 defense in the FBS and LSU was ranked very highly as well. These guys are both studs and will flourish at the next level

I loved David Long with WVU... IF he can stay healthy, I think he will be a very good LB in the NFL. He did seem to get hurt a lot, though.

If he gets past Cincy and GB, I have no doubt we will look to trade our original 3rd to move up for Bush.
I'm ok with that. I just don't want to try and go up to the single digits...just too expensive.

I don't think it is fair to look for the next Shazier, good luck finding that. But what is attractive about Bush goes along with the Steelers biggest weakness at the position, coverage.

He has sideline to sideline speed and that will help him to avoid some blocks. The D-line will help with that are as well. And then there is also coaching, hitting those backer dills.

For what the Steelers have been looking for schematically I feel Bush is a best fit.

You can get a ILBer that is great against the run, then when he drops into coverage gets schooled over and over again.

You know like the ILers they have now.
