Justin Houston released (Steelers may be negotiating with him)

....

who has that much money and wants an apartment?

Maybe he has no intention of permanently moving his family to Pittsburgh, and just wants to rent an apartment during his time as a Steeler? Or mYbe the realtor agency also deals with potential condo buyers, and he's looking to buy one?

Every year a player uses the narrative of coming to the Steelers as leverage for a larger paycheck. News flash. If Houston was gonna be a Steeler he would be one. Either by trade or FA. He is using the Steelers

Thank you Nostradamus

Thank you Nostradamus

I dont think Nostradamus used year in and year out patterns. The Steelers resigned their backup OLB and optioned their starter for 9 million dollars. Have you seriously ever seen them make a move for a guy like this when they have at least a viable player in front of him. Literally Never. If they really wanted Justin Houston it would have been a 7th or future consideration and about 4 million dollars more than Dupree. It didn't happen. Every year they will kick the tires with a guy like this. Nothing comes of it. He ends up going somewhere with huge cap room or to the Pats.

the Steelers couldn't trade for him with his $15 million price tag....the only way was for him to be cut and signed as a FA....right now they need to open up some space to afford him...not saying it will happen, but it still could

not releasing Bud by Wednesday probably put the kibosh on getting Houston. That $9M, fifth year option doesn't look smart right now.

My theory is Ben's extension is holding things up. The sooner that's done the better chance we'll have to grab Houston. But if it drags on too long someone else will get him.

They would need to restructure or trade him at this point to reduce or eliminate the cap hit.

Had they made the move they would have taken on 6 million more against the cap to have a ROLB after releasing Dupree. If they try to sign Houston, what do you figure they will pay? And only one can play. Literally no one is taking on Bud Dupree's nine million dollar option which may not even be a possibility as that contract might be guarenteed by the Steelers. Either way the ship has sailed.
