Antonio Brown deal a disaster for Steelers

That means squat...they could not put him back in the locker room, PERIOD. They had to move him and everyone in the NFL knew they had to get rid of him. You want that cancer back in the locker room? Yeah, well the rest of the NFL knew the answer to that questions was NO.

he wasn't going to show back up. just like the last best player in the league at their position who wanted out. **** it
not like i somehow get a bonus when the team wins. i'm over it
i legitimately expect this team to be in a straight up war for 3rd place in the division

Sometimes you gotta do whatever it takes to remove the infection. Even if it means amputation. It sucks, but that was the only good option. There were plenty of righteous or vindictive things they could've done that may have felt better to do, but those would've been done with the heart and not the brain. And it would've kept that locker room a high-drama mess for a year longer that it could've.

I’m sure it is lost on many people criticizing the AB deal as a disaster, that they praised the renegotiation back when it happened. THAT is when the deal happened. Not over the past couple of months which was just a bad situation with no good way out.

The deal with the Bills was very good, and there were 4 other teams in the mix as well. They all backed out once AB started with the "I'm no showing unless I get a new deal" not sure how that's on the Steelers.

No matter what, AB was not playing for us next season.

I agree with you. Before he squashed the Bills trade, how many teams were in a position to offer high and/or multiple draft picks and were willing to offer Brown the guaranteed money contract he wanted? Then you find out his wants and the Steelers were in a bind -- take the best offer that comes to you, or be stuck with a player who refuses to play next season. When all other teams balked, Oakland got the prize. I'm just surprised that Colbert couldn't swing a better return out of Oakland.

Personally... I hope it all blows up in their face. But it won't matter to Brown, he got his big payday.

bABy is 25 minutes late for his Raider introductory press conference, lol.

I cant wait till the 1st game and Carr cant feed him the ball like Ben did. diva gonna blow up.

Watched a video over at steelers.com. Colbert figures he sucked in the Raiders the way he is talking with that 3rd and 5th...lol. I am convinced these people are idiots. I may not even watch a down of football next fall. Didn't even sign a good replacement WR. Sign Berry instead. I hope the fans send a message and don't show up to the games. They clearly don't care about winning. Its all about the money.

See ya! We make our biggest signing ever for a free agent on the first day but yet we ***** and ***** and *****. I think some of our fans need to buy a case of vagisil.

Ha ha, this jerk off was actually 25 minutes late for his introductory press conference? I can't wait until their season implodes with that moron.

I read Labriola's take on the trade and I gotta tell ya I'm getting pretty sick and tired of that little trolls condescending attitude towards the fan. I can tell you this much, he definitely has some inside knowledge about personalities on the team. However, the more I listen to him I think many of us could shred him in a debate about the state of the team. He just regurgitated company line bullshit. I can live with, it was the best offer and it was time to turn the page and the Steelers just wanted to be done with it. But **** I'm not gonna say that was fair compensation cause it wasn't even close. Jesus it was a fifth more than they got for a guy who was one failed test away from being done (which he is). And dont tell me what we can get with 3rds and 5ths. Its math. You are better off the nearer you draft from one every time. He was worth a bottom one, top two all day. The Steelers got fleeced and completely mishandled the entire affair from the get go. They are the laughing stock of not just football but all of sports right now. Maybe that **** flies when you are talking to Missey Matthews, Bob. Not here.

After ridding the franchise of the biggest malcontent its ever seen. Look, I wish we would have gotten more for Brown, but the guy is a grade A douche, and thwarted any options of that. Not to mention him remaining in the roster spikes next season the same way it went with Bell this year. They wanted him gone.....at all costs, it seems. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if outright releasing him was discussed, so they probably feel any compensation was a win for them. Not saying I totally agree, but they had no choice, and Brown was not going to be on the roster next season.

I guess something that really befuddled me was how a team like say the Chargers who made a big move up last year and are on a last gasp with Rivers wouldn't take a chance. I can tell you for sure if it was the other way around I'd certainly give up a late first for the best player at position with an aging qb. For sure. No question. I will also say this much I dont see any way anyhow the Pat's take that deal. Hell I bet they could get more for Gronk than that tomorrow and Gronk is flat out done.

The Patriots tried to trade Gronk to the Lions and he threatened to retire.

I'd be real interested to know the compensation on that deal. Can tell you AB has about 50thousand more miles left on him then that dude did in 2018 when the deal was on the verge of being done.

AB killed all interest anyone had by saying he wasn't going to show without a new deal. Why is that so difficult to grasp?

It was either keep him around as a constant distraction all next season or take what we could get and rid themselves of this *******.

ABs dumb *** will definitely lose his license quickly after the Cali road rage gets him, he won't get anywhere on time for weeks

other than having him under contract of course

And how did that REALLY work for the Steelers? The only actual power they had was to cut his ***.

He hosed them. I'll bet behind the scenes he said he would drop all kinds of dirty laundry if they didn't get him gone. I'm sure he let the raiders know this too. I mean the draft picks are ******* garbage.

Well the owners will have a chance to put an end to a bunch of this bs in the next cba. Just be ready not to watch football for a season.

It's all repulsive rubbish.

DO we have to keep beating the this to death ..IT IS OVER AND DONE WITH .... MOVE ON BOYS ... Time will tell but I still think we got the better end of the deal !

No, we should never let them live this fiasco down, not in a hundred years

Mayock reveals how he fleeced the Steelers

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Oakland Raiders general manager Mike Mayock did not blink.

Nor, apparently, did he budge.

The Raiders absolutely fleeced the Pittsburgh Steelers in the trade for seven-time Pro Bowl receiver Antonio Brown. Not only in surrendering only third- and fifth-round picks for a four-time first-team All-Pro, but in negotiating Brown's new contract.

"Mayock is a very, very talented general manager and he's a tough negotiator," Brown’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told NFL Network, Mayock's previous employer. "Any chance you guys would take him back? He was a hard guy to strike a bargain with."

M. Mike Mayock explained how things went down during a Friday visit to The Dan Patrick Show.

“I kept saying, ‘We’re not interested,'” Mayock said. “Then the Buffalo thing fell through. One of their guys reached out to Jon [Gruden]. . . . [Steelers GM] Kevin [Colbert] said to me, ‘Would you trade your two? I said, ‘No, but we might trade our three.'”

The outcome reconfirms the value of a poker face when negotiating trades. The Steelers failed to create the impression that they’d keep Brown, although they tried (too late) to change the perception/reality that they would take whatever they can get. The Raiders opted to say “not interested,” “not interested,” “not interested,” “not interested,” and “did I stutter?” until the price dropped to a point where the Raiders got interested.

I’m really not sure what y’all are thinking.... they took the best offer they had, and the longer this guy sat with a “for sale” sign in the window, the more his price was gonna go down. And for all of you that think the Steelers should’ve kept him rather than let him go for anything less than a first round pick, I really don’t think you thought it through. Keeping him and allowing this drama to continue would’ve been terrible for this team moving forward.

It's really not that difficult to understand!

I don't care, that piece of **** is out of that locker room and off this team, good riddance. If AB wasn't saying he wants a new deal or he's not reporting to any team, we would've gotten a much bigger return(as proven by what Buffalo was offering), but once he started spouting that off, only one team was going to give him a new contract and that's where he ended up.
Colbert and Rooney could've said nah he's staying here, and no team was going to come running with a great offer after that dipshit said he wanted a new deal, the thing that off set all his bullshit was how affordable his current contract was to a new team, once he said he demanded a new contract, well game over.
