Steelers Re-Sign Chickillo

Chickillo knows a sweet deal when he sees it, show up in the 3rd qtr of a couple preseason games and impress the coaches against other 4th stringers, ride out camp cupcake for a multi million dollar meal ticket. In like Flint.

If he went to the Pats he'd have to work hard and probably get cut in camp. A no brainer

In four years if a guy hasn't asserted himself as a starter he is a career backup. 4 million per year seems like a lot for a backup. However, he is a pretty good backup. I'm good either way with him being gone or back.

Well Dupree is probably going to be paid 9 million this season

Well I guess they felt like Dupree was a stop gap. Essentially, they filled in Corner and OLB today for this season. They probably aren't taking either 1.20. They draft Wr. And ILB on a a BPA basis and use thirds for TE and corner depth. Something of that nature. Hopefully find out if Ola is really anything this year.

Bwahahahahahahahaha

Yay Coach

I don’t think he’s worth that. That’s expensive insurance. The Steelers need to stop giving out expensive contracts to the likes of Vince Williams and chickillo.

At 13 for Dupree/Chick I would've much preferred throwing a couple more millions dollars on the fiya an actually acquired one of those top notch FA backers out there and backed him up with just about any vet min FA or day 3 draft pick to rebuild the position. We prefer to overpay for our own out of loyalty though, we're pursuing consistent mediocrity here...remember the game plan.

I'm expecting they will get Bud down a few $mil. Probably $6m-$7m/year. Unless a top OLB drops into their laps in the draft or they are already targeting an FA.

If they were already targeting one in FA, they likely would not have given Chickie $4M/year. I was hoping for Marcus Golden...

8-8 is a winning season in The Tomlin Era, and the front office backs that up 100%

8-8 is way too optimistic for this team.
at least the "never had a losing season" argument will be shattered

4 million is 2% of the total salary cap. Seems like a smart move when Bud is likely 1 more and done. He is a good special teamer and serviceable if someone goes down.

It looks like another "head scratcher " of a move.

Pat's offered same deal to Chickillo. He decided to stay in Pittsburgh

I used to joke that Chick would walk after his first contract and become a star OLB for the Patriots. Well I'll be damned if that process didn't almost begin.

First off, Bud Durpee is not good enough to be on the team for $9 million. Or $8 million. Or $7 million. Or $6 million. Or ... you get the picture. Second, spending $4 million on a special teamer/backup makes no sense. Take that $13 million combined, and get an actual pass rusher to pair with Watt and let them go after the QB.

But no, instead let's stack up mediocre, unproductive players on the defense. It's been working so well the past couple of years. I mean, every time the Steelers have a 4th quarter lead and need to stop the other team, Durpee and Chick are terrorizing the opposing QB.

Right?

Coach is making a doll w/ your name on it...

What in the world are you talking about?! No, I just said he was better than Jarvis do nothing Jones, and wondered why Tomlin didn't give Chickllo some of his reps.

Bingo. Spend Bud's money 9 million + Chickillo's money 4 Million a target a front line 3-4 OLB for 13 million a season. It's not rocket science here, then use a draft pick to find a backup or sign a free agent veteran for depth. Cap management, the Steelers have not a clue.

Don't even remind me what they gave Vince Williams.

Right?

Durpee and Chick "know the system". You know, that system that works so well. That's worth a couple mill a year right there, amirite?
