Justin Houston released (Steelers may be negotiating with him)

I would be on the phone as I type this.

Pick your poison. Neither would be a bad decision. Houston or Mosley.

How about...

both. A ILBer and a OLBer is needed. One could flip flop with Dupree, the other could start and upgrade the ILber position.

I know some fans aren't high on Mosley, but he is better than the starters the Steelers have.

That would be nice. I don’t think they have the realistic cap space for both plus their other glaring needs and covering their draft picks.

They have more money this year. I think Houston wouldn't command a lot. Mosley more but not break the bank type of money IMO.

And we know if they need more they can, adjust to free more up.

Steelers could simply cut Durpee and save $9.2 million, and use that money along with the available cap space to sign Houston - you know, an OLB that can actually rush the passer. Pair Houston with Watt, and have them line up along with Heyward and Tuitt to go after the passer.

Upgrade CB and ILB via the draft. Wow, suddenly a defense that can win a game, make a stop with the game on the line, etc.

So what are the chances the Steelers dump Durpee and upgrade the defense? Yeah, zero.

I thought they picked it up with Dupree. Can they cut him and not be on the hook for the $9 million then?

Yes.

Will they, and basically admit that exercising the Durpee option was a mistake? No.

While I'd be on board with most of this you lost me with fix CB via the draft. I cannot think of one above-average CB shades has drafted and developed since he's been here, even though that's his area of "expertise", so no reason to think that changes. Go after a CB in free agency and maybe also pick up John Brown then fix the linebacker position in the draft.

This. We ain't upgrading **** at the CB position via draft. Every time I think we may have drafted a good one, my hopes get dashed pretty quick.
But then again, we do have those monster picks from Oakland......:towel:

Justin Houston was released? Meaning KC couldn't even find a trade partner for an elite pass rusher in today's NFL? Noted.

He's not a head case either, is he?

Aren't we pretty much dead broke again?

maybe we can afford a walk-on kicker

I wonder what it would take to sign him to a two year deal? He only played in 12 games last year. Had 9 sacks and I think 5+ FF, 28 tackles. Does this make him a 5 mil / yr + 4 mil incentives............

Salute the nation

They must be weed smokers...Mosley is the truth!!!

Steelers are 16 million under the cap. Will gain one more million once Brown is officially off the books.

Yinz realize Houston hasn't had over 9 sacks in 3 years I believe. He's also been injured, and he's old.

Houston had 9 sacks, 5 FF & 1 INT in just 12 games last season. His ACL needed surgery and what had him miss time but that's the only injury, and he's younger than AB. I'd take him in a heartbeat with our pass-rushing woes.

Mosely can't cover either. For the price he will want to be paid, we need a guy that can cover. We'd be better off looking at the Ravens RFA guy they think makes Mosely expendable and giving them our 2nd round pick. Or making them match our offer.

You pay his amount and you are stuck with a CB in the draft rather than an FA one.

With '****** Bud", we are top 3 in sacks the last two years.. Pass rushing is not our biggest woe. Spending money on an OLB when we need to spend it on CB isn't gonna make us better. If you could do both, great, but I doubt that could happen with the $$ that are being thrown at players these days.

#Steelers One of multiple teams interested former #Chiefs edge Rusher Justin Houston. Bud Dupree has never lived up to Draft slot and signing wouldn’t factor into compensatory pick formula.
