AB Goes to Oakland

Interesting that other teams can't see how Brown himself caused the Steelers to get less value with all his tweets and finger pointing. Do we really believe that if Brown got away with his actions this time he will not be quick to try it again when it does not go well with Oakland and Carr. Letting players as Brown to get away with all this demands will hurt all teams when their players see how well tis worked for the likes of Brown. One player I wish nothing but the worst of all the players that have left the Steelers for greed.

And Khalil Mack and Aaron Donald...

It's been coming out that compensation wasn't the problem, it was the contract and there were only a small handful of teams willing to give Brown that type of money. The market shrunk to a few teams and the Raiders were the ones willing to do the contract. As every cap/front office writer said, no one was going to give up a high draft pick AND a huge contract, it was one or the other and unfortunately for the Steelers, it hurt them with compensation. The Bills deal was reportedly swapping first-round picks and a couple of picks in the middle of the draft. I would've been thrilled with that, but the problem is Brown wasn't going to go there, that was pretty obvious with how everything went down. If the Steelers got bent over by Brown, so did the Bills and just about every team that dropped out because of the contract issue.

Why not at least pretend you're willing to keep him to increase you're leverage?

Rooney is just as much to blame with his "best if we part ways" comment as anything Brown did or wanted.

The Steelers botched this in about every conceivable way.

And what's with the sense of urgency? They were already on the hook for 21 million. What's another 2.7, especially if it's used to buy time for a better deal.

In the end I don't think it changes much in terms of compensation, but you should never negotiate in public if you are a team. It seems to work more often than not when players negotiate in public.

I doubt anything changes, but my goodness would it be tremendous if something did.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Steelers source emphasizes AB trade is agreement only and “it’s never over till it’s over.”</p>— Gerry Dulac (@gerrydulac) <a href="https://twitter.com/gerrydulac/status/1104763101520506880?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 10, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

So wouldn’t it be Bizarro World if the Steelers FO nix the deal before Tues and start the process all over? Brown would have a tantrum beyond measurement.

It's a done deal. Although, if some team saw that and offered a 2nd and a 3rd or 2nd and a 4th, I'd be all over it.

I think you’re confused. The Raiders restructured Browns contract.

No, I am talking about the money that they converted into a signing bonus to help alleviate the cap. Didn't he get that money as a signing bonus before all this horseshit started?

I think of it this way: Would you agree to take a $7 million cap hit for a 3rd and 5th round pick?

The problem was we were going to take the cap hit regardless. Release or trade we had to do something.

I think Colbert will not put himself in the same situation. He signed Brown and paid him when he didn’t have to and on top of it he gave him guaranteed money. I think for the ghetto rats on the team he learned not to give money upfront because they blow it and want more right away. Ben, JuJu, Watt are guys you can expect to spend money wisely and honor their contract. Hood rats don’t care. They get their welfare check on the first of the month and piss it away in a week then start stealing from any and everyone for the rest of the month. That’s what AB did and got away with it.

I wonder if Art Rooney II has learned anything?

In theory another team could still offer something better or not?

Absolutely since it's not official. It wouldn't be a goodwill move with the Raiders, but who cares. Again, I doubt that report means anything, but interesting to hear.

Thank God it's over! Now we can focus on football. Personally, I'd take 2 3rd rounders and a 5th rounder all day to remove 2 malignant tumors. Let it play out with draft and free agency. I believe we are better off today. Both Bell and AB will never be as productive as they were here. After going thru a double mastectomy, realize that 2 new titties is a good thing

I think their 0-line is one area that is fine. They have three T's in place for competition for one spot.
Fair enough, but they lost the one really good position coach they had. Decastro is 29. The rest of the other key guys are 30 plus. They might be ok but I dont see it being better next year and you have to start considering the future there too.

This sums it all up the best way. Just read.

Is that only one time suspension or just four games in a row?

He comes back acts up again inactive one week, the following week you suspend him another four games.

Was there not like a record amount of trades on draft day last year?

Why not wait one freaking month?

Nobody plays a down of football between then.

Nobody reports.

Spot ******* on.

So the Raiders offer a second and a fourth, a couple days ago. We say no, not good enough. Then a few days later we accept the trade from the same team for a third and a fifth. Dats some great negotiation tactics there. Meanwhile the cheats are going to get that *** hat Bennett for a 6th round pick

So much truth to this last paragraph

Here's a question who on the Steelers can cover ab? Really cover him?

Brown has Carr throwing to him...covering him will not be that difficult as the ball will not be in the same zip code 60% of the time.

Technically the trade can't be finalized until 4:00 pm on the 13th. I suppose they can still get other offers.

Easy to say when it’s not your money you are playing

Uh, I think the Rooneys could have swung it. That's like you and I paying another another 2 months of a mortgage becuase we're not going to take a loss an insulting offer on a house we're trying to sell

Sure.

If you make an artificial deadline and foolishly stick to it.

No football will be played for months. No players will report for months.

I bet you the market for HOF WR improves in April around draft day.

Easy to say when it’s not your money you are playing with.

I believed the roster bonus was paid in installments over the course of the year weekly. So AB wasn't going to be getting that anyway. You know since he wanted a new deal. And week 1 is a long way off I believe which is when he would have gotten his first installment of that bonus.

Brown is the only true receiving threat on the Raiders right now. He is going to have an insane amount of targets and will probably do quite well there.
