AB Requests Trade

I agree with you to a certain point, but because that behavior has metastasized, I am not sure either player can get back to point A. I think they are damaged goods. Get what you can for them. And move on. It is obvious unfortunately Tommy Tom is still here but knowing they aren't ready to let him leave just yet. We have to make the best of what options they realistically have.

Could be. And judging by AB's twitter feed, it seems that the friction between him and Ben is a big problem as well.

Or maybe I can still hope for my fairy-tale ending now that Rooney is sitting down with Brown, and part of their discussion somehow involves the what-ifs of removing Tomlin from the equation.

AB is saying it is all about respect. How do you let him come back now? He will want all the special treatment he has had up until now. If not he will feel he isn't being respected. Living off campus at Latrobe. Missing meetings. Missing walk throughs. Basically doing what he wants. How does a meeting with Art2 fix this whole thing? I can't see anything fixing this. If AB returns it will not be under his wants and needs. It can't be if this franchise wants to move on from the shitshow they have become.

Fine by me, you miss walkthroughs you get suspended and you lose your check, let him rot in the bench or in his house if he doesn't commit to the work he's well payed for. I don't want to give him away also carrying all that dead money, you are just helping a rival on your league and paying him for nothing

AB sounds more and more like a drug addict. I mean is he that stupid that he can't form any kind of sentence verbally or in writing? And, he talks about respect. ****, I still say if we don't get a 1st for him, bring him back and show him respect. And, that will start with a 3 game suspension without pay based on his shenanigans at the end of this past season. Then, let's see how he does moving forward with at best 13 games to get his all important stats for the season. And, any time he doesn't show respect to Rooney, Tomlin or his teammates, he loses another game without pay. Set the rules for him and that's it. Make it simple for him. Follow the rules or lose money and stats.

His terming Ben as acting like an owner goes much too far. I'm pretty sure Ben acts like a coach. Anyone think Tom Brady doesn't act like a coach. Drew Brees. Aaron Roger's. Peyton Manning when he played. It's just that for whatever reason that doesn't seem to play well for Roethlisberger and Roger's. Perhaps they don't wear it as well and it doesn't come off as good. But honestly it IS the same deal.

I sit down with AB and figure out what the root problem is. Why he's unhappy, what's the true reason for his trade demand, why he feels disrespected. I find out if Tomlin has anything to do with that, and if so, I determine whether or not Brown is willing to commit to falling in line under a new head coach. If he convinces me that he will, I don't hesitate to make a coaching change, and we agree upon a fresh start. Then I go to work on bringing Bell back.

Like I said, it's a fairy-tale outcome (for me, anyway), but the fact that Rooney is meeting AB in person gives me the tiniest glimmer of hope; however, if Brown's main problem is with Ben, then the whole idea is moot.

Honest and open communication is a good thing...

Rooney just needs to make sure his open & honest communication is done is such a way that it is comes across as a sign of strength.... and not weakness...

You got it, ACCOUNTABILITY is the number one communication AB needs. Ben / TOMLIN / Rooney / team / NONE of them walked off, cried / pouted (still is) / continually dissing/ etc. etc.. Bottom line is negotiate with him all you want and BE SURE HE UNDERSTANDS the reprocussions of his event of failure. A lot here claim end of the world if he is gone....... We'll have you looked at the world while he is here....... I don't want him back and if you fire somebody just to get him back then you have fueled his fire. Give him options but be very clear he is bing traded. If a lot of information about TOMLIN comes out within this negotiation, follow up and if be true, replace him as well. Get back to ORDER and conduct and STEELERS football. As for those who think BELL is a sudden fit within this team,........ How short is your memory????

Yep, just so tired of hearing everyone else get blamed except the ******* ******* who is at fault.
All the AB backers keep citing the Denver game where Ben said he thought he was going to run a flatter route as the problem. That was in the middle of the season, AB didn't walk out until the last week, so it wasn't that. AB ran a wrong hot route in practice, to which Ben wanted to run it again, and AB got pissed, isn't that exactly what Brees or any other top QB would do, make sure they get it right??? Then the JuJu MVP announcement came, and that sent him off.

I don't give a **** what Tomlin, Ben, or anyone else said, it doesn't give AB the ok to quit on the team and to act like a 5 year old throwing a tantrum, that's 100% on him. That's where it starts and stops.

I see highschool kids who aren't even adults get reamed on the sidelines by their coach in front of the team and fans, and they are right back out there the next series, and they are playing for free. So **** AB, I hope he goes to the worst possible team with a **** offense

A lot shorter than the Steelers' Super Bowl odds without him OR Brown next season.

In related news, people in hell request ice water.

Meh. Bell production was replaced. AB's will be also by someone(s). As soon as the rest of the team sees there will be no special treatment for certain players I believe they will come together as one and be better. By giving the extra treatment to AB only made Bell want it. And why not? If you are Bell and see what AB was getting away with. I'm sure all players saw this. Hopefully Tomlin sees where he went wrong(since he won't be going anywhere) or was told by Art2 and learns from it. One can hope anyways.

Ben won't have to force the ball to one player anymore to appease them, so that unpredictability could help the team, provided they add some more receiving options of course...

Yeah, sure. Come together as one.

Tomlin couldn't even win a single playoff game in the last two years with some of the best offensive firepower the Steelers have ever known, and you think he's somehow going to put together better success with less talent?

You're dreaming.

Thing is Jaysam and Conner it can be argued make up for Bell's lack of talent. Now AB is different he won't be easily replaced. I think you have to bring a WR in and draft another and spread the ball around. Which you know Ben is capable of doing. Not sure how much talent is needed to make up for Tomlin's deficiencies. Buy I do think they can get better talent level overall if they hit on free agency and they draft.

i said all along Bell is overrated as a player. AB on the other hand is another story. He makes amazing catches and comes through in the clutch more often than not. JuJu will get some catches, but w/o AB i see JuJu struggling. I thought Eli played well and Washington started to come around, but they are really going to have to step it up to make up for the caliber of WR that AB was

Didn't win with them, won't win without them. Its just the degree of winning and the facade of contending. The reality of it is Ben's final years will be wasted and a true rebuild will only happen once they move on at HC.

Same was said about Mike Wallace when he left or Plax when he left. Ben can make anyone a pro bowl WR. I’d bring Golden Tate in on the cheap and draft a WR in the first 2 rounds. JuJu, James, Tate and Rogers with a draft pick will sure up the receiving core just fine.

I guess you could argue that. Fallaciously. Bell was without question a top 5 back, more than likely top 3. One of the best overall producers at his position. Samuels and Conner are decent replacements, but they do not together create a backfield which opposing defenses fear, or one the opposition would need to game plan around stopping.

Brown is also top 3 at his position, still commanding double teams. What wide receivers are you going to bring in/draft to replace his production? I'll give you the answer: Nobody.

If you're equating Mike Wallace and Plaxico Burress with Antonio Brown, you're sadly mistaken.

Perhaps you didn't notice that JuJu had 37 yards receiving in week 17 without AB out there getting doubled.

He did a good job pinpointing the ball in the air. Little disappointed in the QB not getting that out a little further so the WR didn't have to slow up in his route.

I hear his production is good, but there is a rumor that he dogs some of his routes

pawz

I bet his vertical and three cone are solid, but you wonder like many other WRs will he act like a hot dog once fame and fortune come his way. I am thinking we are looking at a 6th -7th round developmental prospect. You can draft another WR higher and then Tomlin can do that two dog one bone approach come training camp. I have a feeling in this instance he would shine.

If only Mr. Big Checks had that discipline...........................
