Colbert ok with Big Ben calling out players on the radio.

I think that window has closed. Not Ben's fault, the offense is fine, but Tombert couldn't keep a good defense on the field due to too many draft busts in LB's and DB's.

IMO that window stays open with a Big Ben on a team, even with other factors trying to close it..............

Now Colbert is a media ***** ?!?!? WTF!

Diarrhea of the mouth must be contagious in the Steeler organization these days...

Somebody fumigate the entire South Side facility!

He has always made comments here and there. I don't think this year is any different. And I don't see him as a media ***** either.

Yep, it isn't often, but it's at the same times every year. No matter what comes out of ANY member of the Steelers organizations mouths right now, it's going to be twisted into whatever the talking heads what it to mean.

This year is definitely different...

What value did his comments hold?

Concentrate on the draft and free agency Mr. Colbert...
Stay in your lane..

Maybe like a lot of us he tires of hearing the bullshit finger pointing at Big Ben.

Umm, yeah, except that last year they didn't make the playoffs without Bell and with AB. I don't see the situation improving this coming season without AB because 1) they barely addressed the defensive and ST coaching and player development deficiencies and 2) Tombert's seeming inability to draft decent defensive players.

I dunno Ron I have to see what they do with AB the return, free agency, and the draft. But yeah was disappointed Butlin was retained. For me I think we have to see how well they do putting some new pieces in place.

They didn't make the playoffs but could even if the defense performs the same last year. How? Don't abandon the run as they did this season during their losing streak and have a competent field goal kicker. If they had either of those last year the Steelers would've earned a bye week even with that defense playing the way it did.

We've had 12 years to see how well Tombert replaces pieces on defense. Maybe 4 good players in 12 years and one of them will likely never play again due to injury.

Even if they did, they would never get past the first round of playoffs which is basically typical at this point for Mikey Cool Shades.
Should have fired every coach on defense except for Tom Bradley because he just got here and isn't responsible for this clusterfuck.
This coming season 8-8 at best and I bet they won't be able to beat Cleveland twice. However Shades will get to keep his "Never had a losing season" record intact and get another extension from Art The Deuce after he baffles him with some more bullshit and big words.

Trust me I am not on Tomlin's bandwagon by far. I was just hoping they could win despite him. But yeah we have hoped that for some time now.

Colbert did a NICE follow-up interview of the "52 kids" interview. He explained it just as it was meant on the original interview,.......before the ******* talking heads bull-**** con strewed into drama crap. Colbert had many good things to say about BEN / Cam / Marquice/ and others. There is NO lane or place that he veered out of. I realize with the DRAMA queen Mr. Big Checks many a things are taken out of context but I think Colbert is very level headed and "in tune" with what needs to be said. Just my two cents

Lol. Butlin. Nice.

But yeah. Time to see how the Steelers do

I mean, in 12 years I'm coming up with Tuitt, Heyward, Watt, and Shazier on defense. That's all I got. And Shazier is done.

I saw a clip with Harrison saying that Tomlin has his hands all over the defense side of the ball. And that them retaining Butler wasn't really that big of a surprise. Basically what most on here have been saying since Dick left.

There is NO doubt that CMVLT has his hands all over that "D". It's acceptable to the owner as it does get it's rankings. The absolutely worst thing is that 2DL set, I do hope that is used way less this up coming season. I think when the ART Duece and CMVLT had their little talk that ART mentioned things about the "D" but UNTIL Mike TOMLIN is no longer with the team, this DEFENSE will go not very far.

Public ridicule or airing of grievances, especially by those in leadership positions, is not value added for any organization, sports team, or private businesses and is not value added in my humble opinion gentlemen..

This practice has been a huge negative factor within the locker room and practice field of our favorite dysfunctional professional football team.

That is my take on all this ridiculousness that has made the Pittsburgh Steelers lose their lofty status of being a model pro sports franchise.

PS. There is a lot of OFF-SEASON left and new - personael to be obtain so a lot of difference can still be made. I'm hoping last year's ****-show finish of several games opened some eyes and insider ultimatums were spoken.

I think that's why Shades kept Butler on. Butler gets paid a decent buck to take the heat. If Shades hires a new DC and the D looks the same and still sucks, eventually people will figure out that it's on him (except for us here at SN because we're smarter than the average fan).

Remember too, that Colbert used to draft lights-out defensive players and future HOF'ers until Shades came along. Since then they're lucky if their draft picks on defense last past their first contract.

Colbert, with Cowher, was hit-or-miss with defensive players the same way they are now. For every Troy Polamalu (who obviously was an otherworldly talent that they had to trade up for), you had your Alonzo Jackson’s, your Ricardo Colcough’s, your Hank Poteat’s, etc. The ‘05 team consisted of: Hampton who was tremendous and tremendously missed, a late round gem in Aaron Smith, a free agent addition in Kimo, another tremendous FA in Farrior, Porter who was before KC’s time, a middling Haggans who has similar production as Dupree(except Bud was a #1 pick), Foote who was a solid late-round Guy, Hope who was OK for two years, McFadden who was really only productive that season, Ike who was kinda up-and-down until ‘08, and Troy who is HOF special. Their biggest impact players were either pre-KC, or free agent acquisitions, with the exception of Troy and Big Snack. You also didn’t have to deal with hardly any other team playing a 3-4, and were able to squeeze some of those guys in the later rounds.

They did hit on every first round pick though I believe:
Burress, Hampton, Simmons(good until diabetes I think it was shortened his career), Troy, Ben, Heath, Holmes.
He was here when they brought Farrior in also. Don't forget Ike Taylor, that was very good pick, he was among the best cover corners in the league for a stretch. Th 2005 Super Bowl winning defense, Hamp, Farrior, Foote, Ike, Troy, Hope, Mcfadden were all brought in while Colbert was here.

Meantime Tombert’s defensive first rounders include Ziggy Hood, Jarvis Jones, Jarvis Dupree, and Artie Burns. Jason Worilds and Senquez Golson in the second round.

Don't forget the amazing 2008 draft of Mendenhall, Sweed, Davis in the first 3 rounds.

That's a huge issue, in the 12 drafts Tomlin has been in charge of, we've gone defense in round 1 in 9 of those drafts, a few drafts we've gone defense 1st and 2nd round and our defense is still bad, I don't care what anyone says, it's started getting worse as the players Cowher and Colbert drafted began leaving, I know no one wants to hear that, especially the big Tomlin apologist, but it's very true.
Tomlin was a DB coach then a DC, yet we've burned 9 first round draft picks on defensive guys and our defense still gets torched by Blake Bortles and a run first Jags offense for 45 at home in the playoffs, and can't hold a 4th quarter lead if their life depended on it.

That's scary especially when you consider there are two or three cornerbacks who could be there at the Steelers draft position (Baker, Murphy, and Williams). However, here's where if you can somehow get a 1st and a mid-round pick for Brown, the Steelers would have the draft capital to make a big move up in the first for a top playmaker and still have low first-round to pick up a second guy.
