Don't let winning mask an issue. "Bill Cowher"

Quotes from legendary Hines Ward today.

"I just think the culture that Mike Tomlin has created, or that exists in Pittsburgh, that's not the standard of the Pittsburgh Steelers."

Ward referenced a few specific situations: Brown's decision to broadcast a scene from the locker room on Facebook Live in 2017. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger criticizing teammates and coaches on his radio show. And Tomlin "kind of treating this player a little different" from others.

"Everybody has to be treated equally," said Ward, who now works as an executive with the start-up Alliance of American Football. "Yes, I know Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell are superstars. But Tom Brady is still held to a higher standard. Tom Brady has a radio show — I've never heard him call out any players."

Bradshaw, Belier, Harrison, and Ward. Steelers legends are ripping the current head coach. Bill Cowher is taking a more diplomatic route, but his words are pretty harsh on Tomlin as well.

Art Rooney II can play Bernie in the next Weekend at Bernie's movie. Open your ears and listen for the franchise's sake.

Tom Brady calls out his players and coaches on the field in front if everyone, so sick of everyone putting Brady on a pedestal. If Ben started screaming at Fichtner or any other coach like Brady has, damn everyone would go insane.
Tom Bradys ******* TB12 nutrionist ball licker guy had an office in Gillette stadium for how long? Yeah Brady isn't treated differently

If I were Ben I'd not do the radio show any longer but thats me. I really do not think he tries to put anyone under the bus but of course nowadays every damn word a person says seems to be taken out of context.

Lets face it, Ben is not well liked in the media and the NFL and I think it goes back to his troubled days in the past and people are never going to let that go. I think the NFL and media types will never give him his credit and hell, the guy can't buy an endorsement. You would think the success he's had that Ben would have an endorsement from time to time but again I go back to his past trouble with the two incidents. I know, I know, he was never charged but doesn't matter. In the court of public opinion, Ben is guilty and is scum and has definitely tainted his reputation. Hell, did he not just get snubbed for the Fed EX Air passing award? That should tell you all you need to know about the perception that others have of Ben.

Brady is treated differently...by the officials and the league.

Ben for whatever reason never was respected on the level of Brees, or Brady within the franchise. Ben apparently could not stop Arians from being let go. He had to deal with a clown like Todd Haley and suffers through more divas than any other star QB.

Ben should know, he's the real reason for the winning in Pittsburgh, not Mike Tomlin. Tomlin is the reason the team misfires. The Steelers are working on extending Ben. If I were Ben, I'd tell Art Rooney II straight to his face Tomlin needs to be fired, I'm testing the free agency market.

This would force sleepy Art Rooney II to wake up and choose, and I'm telling you Tomlin would be good as gone. If Rooney can only talk about a kicker being our problems, that tells me all you need to know about the man.

Ben holds all the cards. I don't think he's alpha enough to do this move but he has nothing to lose, and in private no one will know but Art and him.

Then got wrecked in the SB.

After the Steelers recovered that onside kick and jammed it down the Cowgirls' throat, it was clear that the better team was the Steelers.

Neil O'Dumbshit's second interception is what killed the team - an interception in the 4th quarter with the score 20-17. So no, the Steelers were not wrecked in the SB, Cope.

What makes anybody think Ben has any animosity towards Tomlin, or wants him gone? From what I can tell, Ben is perfectly fine with Tomlin.

With Neil Odonnell and Kordell freaking Stewart! So you must hate Tomlin then, 12 seasons with a franchise QB, and he's been to 3 AFCCG'S, Cowher made 4 with Neil and Kordell.

We're all, but he had O'D and Kordell, but yes, they were the ******* 1 and 2 seeds. They didn't fail because they had those QBs. They failed because they did the same ******* thing in the playoffs, each and every year, as they did in the regular season. Until Whiz started working in gadget plays, and forcing a 2nd year QB to throw instead of manage. Teams couldn't key on them then.

The same happens with Andy Reid and Schottenheimer. No new wrinkles. Same plays as the regular season, better teams in the playoffs can game plan for it, and they lose.

Maybe Tomlin will someday get to Cowher's 1-4 home AFCC record, but he's currently at 2-0 at home in the AFCC.

In 2001, they did. Steelers defense made consecutive stops and gave the ball to Korky, down 24-17. Twice Korky threw a pick. All together in that game, he logged 3 interceptions and a fumble lost - 4 turnovers in a game the Steelers lost by 7.

So, yes, Korky Stewart basically lost that game.

Wrong, that's the narrative, Marty ball, Marty ball, Marty ball, but they were throwing in all those playoff losses. Neil threw 52 times vs SD in 1994 and we weren't behind until 8 mins left in the game. 1997 we were up, Bettis was running at will, we were about to go up by double digits when Kordell threw into triple coverage for a pick in the end zone, then he was done after that, 0 confidence. 2001 we were a big time run first team, the first half of the 01 title game we threw it like 28 times to 8 runs

Today Hines Ward said he is embarrased of these Steelers and said AB should not have been allowed to.play in the AFC Championship game in 2017 after filmimg the locker room speech. He also went on to praise the Pats and Brady for benching Malcolm Butler in the Super Bowl and said Brady is winning with nothing while Ben misses the playoffs with all our weapons. Another one damning the Tomlin coaching and culture under his "leadership "

**** he was never even charged with a damn thing, but ESPN and the NFL don't hesitate to give Ray Lewis or Irvin a job.

Im still waiting to hear how exactly he threw anyone under the bus?

I love Ward, one of my top 3 favorite player of all time, but remember he threw Ben under the bus before a Sunday Night game vs Baltimore during an interview with Bob Costas I think, Ward said he should be playing or something along those lines.

I don’t think he did throw a player under the bus but I think when he said JaWash should not have dove for the ball in Denver, to these players it was throwing him under the bus. Then I think he said something Brown running incorrect route but to players he was throwing Brown under bus. Now the talking heads get a hold of it and blow it out of proportion and you add to that Ben is just not liked in the media. Now Brady is a media darling so if he makes a comment about a player it’s treated differently. Plus Brady has had much more success than Ben with like nine super bowl appearances so he’s held in a much higher regard than Ben.

Well this is how that went, Ron asked him if he said anything to Washington about that play, and Ben said yeah we talked, we need him to make that play, and he knows that. That turned into Ben throwing him under the bus. IMO throwing some one under the bus is blaming them for losing.

Brady has been busted for cheating, twice! Ben has never been charged of anything, yet he's treated like a piece of ****, even in Pittsburgh the local radio guys bring up Milidgeville all the time.

I love how revisionist some of us are.

He was the #1 seed 3 times and the #2 seed twice. Favored in all 5 games. Doesn't matter who your QB is, just ******* win one. That's why fans were mad at Bill and wanted him fired back in the day. And the 1 home game they did win, they lucked out on a hail mary hitting the ground after landing on a dudes stomach. Then got wrecked in the SB. So yea, we were a bit miffed back then when the 'chin' kept taking it on the chin...

"got wrecked in the SB"??? Yeah, revisionist history, indeed.

I think "drunk cope" is actually "standard, par-for-the-course" cope

Lol so there ya have it. Cowher apparently couldnt hold Tomlin's jockstrap, because afccg...'n stuff.

I think maybe its time for you to get sober

Says the coach that was 1-4 at home, in conference championships...

In fairness, that was when the Pats***** were at the peak of their cheating.

No, I'm very balanced when it comes to Tomlin and Cowher. I think they're about the same as far as success and production. This page thinks Cower is better than he was and Tomlin is worse than he is. They're both 2 very good coaches, but I don't forget Cowher's shortcomings, and I understand Tomlin's.

San Diego and Denver didn't cheat. And the first Pats game took a called back punt coverage to gain an advantage.

Coach Mike gives Ben every Wednesday off. What does the team do on Wednesday that Ben misses?

Oh I know. At the time the discussion centered around how MartyBall* got you a good record in the regular season but tended to fail in the playoffs when you play a good team every week. Obviously Shades doesn't play MartyBall and things of that nature, if you will, but manages to achieve similar results. Obviously.

*MartyBall -- A style of football named for Marty Schottenheimer under whom Cowher was an assistant, whereby you have a good defense and a good running game to keep the ball away from the opponent. The goal is to get all the points you need in the first half and score no more than 3 points in the second half while chewing the clock and holding your opponent to 0 points. Passing is the devil because it doesn't chew clock. Scoring in the second half is the devil because you have to kick off and give the ball back to the other team. The perfect MartyBall game is to end the third quarter with a 21-17 lead then burn the fourth quarter grinding down the field at 3 yards a pop, kick a FG from the 2, and win 24-20. At the time we didn't call him FGB (Field Goal Bill) for nothing.

That's all great, but I've pointed out we didn't play Marty ball under Cowher in the playoffs.

Cowher was a better coach, not sure why people have a problem when someone says that, I don't see anyone saying he's an all time great.

File this one under a head coaching pissing off the other players. Yes, why does Ben get day off every week? Ask Tomlin. Maybe Brown's right? Tomlin treats him differently.

I think we did until 2005 when Cowher sort of got out of his own way for a change and let Whiz run the offense.
