I'm still in mourning of not getting into the playoffs, still pissed at decisions made, not made, etc but I'm almost to the point of turning the corner on 2018 which we can all agree on will be looked back on for years to come as a huge disappointment. That said, here are some positives I took from this season, what are some positives you took and will give us some hope going into next year:
1) Connor proved that he can be our starting RB. He needs to maybe add a few pounds, build up some additional strength and work on protecting the ball but I think he has great promise. He proved he is an effective blocker and receiver when called on. I'm looking forward to watching him develop and hope he can maybe move into a Bettis type of RB who can simply wear out and shut down opposing defenses.
2) The O line is the best and can only get better. Except for when Ben hung onto the ball too long, they kept him pretty much upright and healthy all season.
3) The defense had some awful brain cramps at the worst times but I thought Butler did a pretty good job with what he had to work with. I do not recall teams constantly trying to exploit the home run ball like they did the year before. Just got to work on getting team off the field on third and long and they pick up the first. Effective tackling would go a long way there. Its the yards after that first contact is what pissed me off.
4) JuJu. The guy is going to be great and he deserved the MVP this year. His fumble in the NO game was potentailly season altering but I can't fault him for trying like hell. The kid has a huge heart for the game.
5) Ben had a hell of a year...Yeah he should have thrown a few of those balls out of bounds rather than forcing them but there were some improbable throws that were completed so you really can't have one without the other. I'd take a gunslinger like Ben over a "safe" QB like O-Donnell any day.
6) Watt--The kid continues to improve and like JuJu has a motor in him that won't quit. He is an old school player who I hope has a long career in PGH
I'm sure I'm overlooking a ton but its time for dinner. Discuss
