I was pondering this while I watched the Steelers game and also the rats game. The Steelers are at home facing a team decimated with injuries. The bungles are a horrible team playing with guys that should be bagging groceries not playing in an NFL football game. Still the Steelers can't focus. Are they thinking about the Rats game? Maybe they are thinking about the off season? I don't know but it does underscore the fact that Tomlin can't focus these guy in. They don't pay attention to what they are doing. If they were a child I'd write them a prescription for ADHD medication. Lapse in judgment and focus doomed this team filled with talent. Everyone has talked about the bad losses to the Raiders and Denver. But just think, the entire season is on the line and all they can do is muster 16 points against a walking MASH unit. The bungles lost their #1 WR, #2 WR, #1 QB, #1 TE (along with 2 others). It would be like the Steelers losing Ben, Brown, JuJu, McDonald, and James. And that's just on offense.

I think this is one of the real problems with this team. They are letting the outside get to them. They aren't focused and they don't play as a team. They weren't focused last year either during the Jax game. The HC sets the tone for that. Talking about the pats**** when you haven't taken care of business yet. Hey idiot you aren't playing the pats*** this week. Which makes the Steelers look like a jumbled mess of spoiled children looking for direction. But the direction they are getting is that they are fine. Nothing to worry about. You're one of the elite teams. It's a dereliction of duty and a total lack of understanding of what makes this team good. They are good when they are driven. They are good when they are focused to handling one thing at a time. That's what all good teams do.

I'm off my soap box. Pity that such a talented team sits at home while less talented better coached teams are still in it.

They play like they are entitled. We are the Steelers, look at our talent, we are best when we play top level competition because we focus our efforts.if you are not an elite level team we are good enough to win by showing up, how dare these teams show up and try to win.

The Steelers are a cornerstone franchise in the league. No matter where they are in the standings, there is a desire by other teams to bring their “A” game. We fail to be ready for lesser teams “best punch.”

I think back to Tomlins championship season. The schedule that season was unbelievably brutal. Yet they had the mantra “It’s a 5 star matchup because we’re in it.” We seem to have forgotten that we are a five star matchup for our opponents.

This has gone on for years. It has become disgustingly predictable.

Here’s a thought. Maybe we are not as good as we think we are. Outside of a couple elite players this team is made up of mediocre players that would maybe not even crack other teams rosters. Especially on the defensive side of the ball.

they play the game they are in. They have no identity. What is Steeler Football these days?
15 years ago you knew exactly how a game would unfold. get a lead and run, run, run. and play hard D.
Not saying we should do that, but we have no plan, just react.

I agree with this,

WHEN YOU'RE PLAYING A LOSER TEAM AND ARE LOOKING AHEAD to a rival (cheats) that says it all. COACHING.

Salute the nation

Thread after thread of wah, wahing. This is what we are reduced to?

Look, I support Tomlin because what else can I do? He is going to be the coach. All the pissing and moaning in the world on this message board isn't changing that. I absolutely wish the Steelers wuold make a change, but I know they won't, so why waste a scintilla of time speculating on it?

What worries me for some of you people is I actually think you believe if you ***** enough on here, or turn off the games, or refuse to buy merchandise or whatever it is that the Rooney's will all of the sudden say, "OK, we hear you, Tomlin is gone."

I heard this bullshit spewed before. They have Haden close to a pro bowler, Heyward and Watt the same. A improved Dupree. And the rest good enough to get a 7th D ranking in the NFL. Which most teams can get that label. A ****** D scheme needs improved, this team doesn't have the Ilbers to run it. Maybe the two coaches that have their hands in the D aren't good enough to put the players in position to win. Like dropping Watt into coverage too much, like knowing when to play man or zone on 3rd and 20. Like knowing that a Tampa 2 version won't work in today's NFL. Like refusing to bring in a SS and CB when they saw Burns and the rookie struggle. Trying to squeeze the last drop out of Burnett who was injury prone in GB. So it is more about the personnel decisions with a few than a D roster filled with mediocre players. And no need to tell you Tombert is responsible for scheme and those few spots than needed upgrading. They bottom barreled those spots in free agency. Then we're shocked all season when they were either injured or not good enough. Burns situation was handled incorrectly also. Was a certain point he shouldn't have even sniffed the field. No just bad decision making, bad defensive scheme, mixed in with sitting on their money. Also Davis was thrown at FS with no real backup plan. So yeah like I said elsewhere a total fail of a off-season combined with equally inseason ****** decisions.

Dupree is useless out there. Heyward is overrated, as is Tuitt. Maybe you are right that these guys are limited by scheme. I'll concede that with Heyward and Tuitt because they have shwon things. Sorry, but Dupree just sucks. But damn, make a play somewhere. Get a turnover somewhere. Overcome the scheme.

Dupree had a ok season. Not sure he sucked this year like he did in previous seasons. I have the Steelers drafting a ILBer and T early. Mixed in with a Wr and RB after that. Then attacking Cb and Fs in free agency. Along with possibly a WR. Only so many moves can be made in 1 year. I would say change the D coordinator and scheme. Plus fix the bigger deficiencies and Dupree will be ok for a season as a compliment type player. Watt should be the player that gets you sacks in key situations. Mixed in with better coverage and better scheme. That could be enough to shine something other than a participation trophy. Provided the Steelers don't bottom barrel free agency again.

Art II may not take action because of it, but he can't totally ignore it either. If more former players and those in the media begin to show concern, how can he not consider a change, or at least set some new guidelines and expectations?

I get it, but I disagree with this. It’s not that I think Art will read our posts and make a decision. But the more fans talk about things, the more media personalities and coaches and players are forced to talk about things - they’re out in the ether. That’s what the “chatter” will become. It may not force a move, but it will force Art to hear the chatter and the louder it is, the more he will will feel pressure.

I was thinking this exact same thing yesterday. At home, playoffs on the line. Cincy all jacked up with injuries..

You're right, just close up the board. Why bother having it??

Exactly.

A message board is for expressing opinions.

As it pertains to Art Rooney, any decent businessman should be in tune with the sentiment of his customers. He doesn't have to respond to it with action, but a lot of fans are legitimately starting to wonder if he even cares.

He sees the same bullshit year after year we all have, yet Tomlin seems as comfortable in his job as ever.

I think you have misunderstood my thread. I know Tomlin isn't being replaced. Just like you know what you just wrote won't change anyone's mind but you wrote it none the less. I wrote it because it's what I think and I wanted to share it. I would imagine you wrote what you did because of the same reason.

Unprepared, undisciplined and uninspired. These traits have become the standard the last few years.

I know. Hell, I'm as pissed off at this situation as anyone. But nothing will be done. Now this shitshow with Brown. You know what it is? And I can't believe I'm saying it...hell, I've been a fan since the early 70s...I disoike the Pittsburgh Steelers. I can't stand this team. THere are a handful of players I like...Watt, JuJu, Villy, Decastro and Conner. Feiler. I've gotten to the point that the rest I just have a hard time rooting for. Even Ben. Dumb jackass has to throw the ball all around. In a league in which they can't practice tackling. So I just try hard t accept the reality.

Imagine that, another excuse for Tomlin.

Yeah hard time rooting for a QB that constantly fields a explosive offense.

Real rough.

Yea, you are right. When is the first playoff game?

Explosive offense doesn't mean ****. They are home. Which means they ain't winning. They can lose with Rudolph. I'm not saying they can win with him, but they ain't winning anything lately anyway.

They aren't home because of that explosive O. It has been talked about in many threads what are the real culprits.

Not sure why you are pointing in Ben's direction... makes little to no sense.

I disagree with that. This is a team sport. I acknowledge the defense is lacking, but this offense doesn't do things to help at times. Like run the damn football. This defense since Cowher was here is predicated on the idea that it doesn't spend too much time on the field therefore it is fresh. When you are throwing the damn ball so much...if things aren't clicking that goes out the window. Ben also made some bad throws this year that lost games.

I want to see some better balance on offense. Is the QB the reason for some of the lack of balance? None of us know that but that is my hunch.

LOL, we were down to our 3rd and 4th string running back. The offense averaged 28 points per game and that is what you want to ***** about? The days of pounding the rock are in the rear view mirror, especially when you have a defense that couldn't stop anybody year in and year out. What games exactly are you blaming on the offense?
