Damn do you people even watch this team? A special teamer under Cowher? Really? He started 8 games in just 3 years with Cowher. He caused 2 fumbles and had 4 sacks with 110 tackles (18 TFL). He played in 44 games for Cowher. He wasn't just a special teamer.
Because Porter was older and on the back nine of his career, as was Haggans. They were looking at getting younger.

I hate Tomlin as much as anyone, but I have to agree with Ron and Steelworth. Joey was a cap casualty and was in store for a payday and he got a monster contract from Miami. Additionally, Clark was also at the end of his contract, but with about half the cap hit.
Joey hit the cap for $3.85M in 2006 and was scheduled for $5.255M in 2007. They had already restructured him in 2004 and kicked the can down the road by converting salary into bonus and prorating the cap hit over the remainder of his contract.

The Steelers did not plan on resigning him to a monster contract in 2007 and released him a year early.

In further comparison, Haggans signed a $10.2M/4year with $3M guaranteed in 2004. idk the specifics, but that maxes out at $2.55M/yr. We had him for around that much or less in 2006 and 2007 while Joey was commanding twice that in 2006 and $6.4M on avg. in later years via his big payday. We couldn't afford that. Harrison/Timmons would cost much less until Harrison got his payday.

Harrison played 4 more years, but still made $1,597,594 less than Joey in his 12 seasons. This was largely due to the fat contract offer Porter received in 2006. He was absolutely a cap casualty.

He played when someone was hurt or ejected as I recall. And don't tell me you knew his exact number of games he played either. You had to look that one up. SMH

He rotated. You really think players get ejected very often? When was the last ejection at LB for the Steelers? Quick don't look it up just tell me.
Also of course I looked up the numbers but I also remember him rotating in the scheme. He played LOLB and ROLB. He didn't just play when players were hurt. Maybe you should have taken the time to look it up.
You know what I fear the most is that the culture that Tomlin has fostered with this supposed players coach mentality is something that will be very hard if not impossible for a new HC to deal with. Just like Sharp said in the video you don't just flip a switch and become something you are not after all these years. Same with the players and other coaches. Almost take a complete house cleaning to fix something like that.

I agree with that. That means the Steelers won't do anything until after Ben is gone. They aren't blowing this team up and starting over with Ben still playing. Which means they may fire Butler or some positions coaches but Tomlin is safe and will be here at least 2 more seasons.
I agree Tomlin isn't going anywhere no matter what happens today. The best we can hope for is a house cleaning on the defensive side.
The problem is, in addition to the defensive lapses that have cost this team games, we have the completely idiotic play calls like we seen last week, lack of preparation, attention to detail, simple fundamental skills like HOLDING ON TO THE DAMN BALL and a host of other things that KILL this team about half the time each year, that WONT get fixed no matter what they do on the defensive side of the ball.

The Steelers legacy is on the line. It's been repeated many times that we've become spoiled because we're so used to winning, but that can change in a heartbeat. Look at the many...once proud franchises, toiling in mediocrity....and I would argue we're 2 more MT seasons away from falling from our 50 year run of perennial contenders (mostly) to wanna-be's. Shoot... I actually hope MT stick around long enough to coach a couple years after Ben retires...because you know if Tomlin leaves before Ben then a new coach comes in, Ben retires, and the Steelers struggle, people are going to use that as evidence that Tomlin was great, when in fact, it was Ben keeping him from crapping the bed all along.

Porter was allowed to enter FA because they were not going to pay what he wanted at his age. It was a Dan Rooney move at its finest because Porter had maybe 2 good seasons left and they did it for him so he could still get that big money deal in FA

LOL...He was a backup that primarily played on special teams....just like Chicky. Spin it any way you want. I only mentioned the ejection because I do remember the time Porter got ejected before a game even started during warm ups. And Harrison got the start. Had a pretty good game at that...I believe.

He started doing that after Tomlin repeatedly lied to his face. He was promised playing time before he came back, then kept practicing and being told all week he'd play, only to show up on game day to an empty locker. So then he started asking to be traded or released so he wouldn't have to waste what would probably be his last year in the league. He kept being given the runaround and was told by Rooney that Tomlin "had a plan for him." Tomlin and the organization did him wrong, so he did what he had to to get released and ended up playing in the damned Super Bowl.

**** Harrison. He is the employee. If his coach doesn't want to play him boo hoo. So if Tomlin told him that he wouldn't be playing much would he have not slept through the meetings then? This has nothing to do with what Tomlin told him. It all about Harrison's lack of character when he didn;t get his own way or things were not going as he wanted them to.

LOL.. HAHAHAHAH.. He was the backup for both the ROLB and the LOLB. He was their primary backup. So you can spin it, spit on it, of **** it. He played a lot and wasn't just a special teams player like you want people to believe.

You are not a backup LBer on this team if you don't play special teams. Check out Chicky stats his first 3 years here. Pretty close to Harrisons. Nobody knew James would explode into the beast he became. Go on and try to keep believing they knew they had a special player in him. They drafted Timmons for a reason. A) he doesn't discipline them
B) he's black
If he was white he would have lost this team a while ago but he's their homie
BTW I also pin this on Ben. There is only one player who could force a change on the squad years ago and that's Ben.....they would fire Tomlin if Ben gave them an ultimatum ....so then I come to the conclusion that Ben is either a big fat ***** (who also likes to not have discipline and also likes to not be demanded to be more prepared), he's lazy who likes to just show up, or he's dumb (or all three)
Out of the 1,000 times you have seen Ben on the sideline in a close game is he looking at film, talking to the coordinators, or just looking stupid watching the game? I'd say maybe 15% of the time I see Ben trying to figure things out on the sidelines and Tomlin doesn't do **** about it
I think Ben is one of the most talented QBs ever and could have been top 5 if he worked harder
