Call in - your chance to fire Tomlin

on hold now....

Hey, my comment about the Raiders having extra eyes upstairs (for replays) just got mentioned on the air.

At your service (!)

The Raiders!!

Listen to over reacting fans (any fan base to any sport/any team) to make decisions. That sounds like a great strategy....

For being a losing team and dysfunctional organization.

To be clear- Tomlin needs to have his job evaluated. The fans aren’t part of decision.

Very interesting, and unfortunately, disturbing.

My biggest issue with Tomlin—this is a symptom.

He’s not “in fear” of losing job.

That lack of fear is also a lack of motivation—being “too comfortable”

When he initially arrived in 2007-08; he coached with “chip on shoulder” & directly challenge a veteran championship team to establish “his way”.

Since then; he’s been “safe” and even protected due to “social justice.” (Stephen A Smith can pull race card all he likes - I don’t care).

I had a blog post ready about him before the season—I need to repost it here , because exactly what I had issues with maintained through regular season.

FSF, I couldn't agree more about him being way too comfortable. And I believe that to be his biggest issue. Will expand more (from my perspective) in a bit.

Coach should mention the free bandwidth. You can post like a Gatling gun at Steeler Nation and we’ll provide the bullets.

I made the radio show just before the 6:00PM hour. The host liked my early points, but my time became short when I said the Pittsburgh media, in general, doesn't hold Tomlin accountable. He took that the wrong way thinking I was referring to Madden who does not have a locker room pass and assured me they do. Seeing that the point on media accountability was becoming a pissing match, I shifted to Tomlin's lack of understanding on when to throw the red flag ( 0 for his last 10 ) , and then I was cut off in the interest of time, when he said something like we get we got it you want him fired, and on to the next caller they went.

Why he left Ben out of the game in Oakland four series because he didn’t want to disrupt the flow.

His statement here was beyond baffling. Has anyone suggested that Tomlin may actually be a plant for the opposition?

Did we win?

The Steelers have a significant amount of $ flowing into the local media and it would not serve them well to put too much fire at the feet of their master. Tomlin will go when he or the Rooneys are ready for him to go and not a second before no matter how much the fans ***** and moan. Sorry..

that was you?? haha i heard that, i used the link at work and listened for the last 45 min or so

Its great therapy to see that many others out there share the same frustration with how our team continually loses to lesser talent, challenge calls that shouldn't be challenged, do not challenge calls that should and make questionable personnel and on-field decisions but I'm sorry that calling talk shows, making post after post about how the guy should be canned, makes no difference. He is not going anywhere unless he decides to call it quits or after his contract is up. At this point thats after the 2020 season,,,so sorry that's not all folks....

Hey, guys, just wanted to pop in to say thanks to those of you who listened to the show. I'm not a radio guy. Never have been. Never want to be. As one of you noted, I'm a writer who just kind of has fun with this.

Also, wanted to say that this man you've got running this place is one of the best people I've encountered in Web-land. A total pro. We're proud to be longstanding partners with Steeler Nation and the forums here.

Thank you again, and happy new year!

Thank you for being one of the few I try to bring this up to who get it, understand it.

Non-Steelers fans just look and say you've been competitive every year.

Steelers fans know that he hasn't just had a competitive team, but a Super Bowl Caliber team every year, and not made it. Since 2014-2018, there should have been at minimum 1 Super Bowl appearance.

What a mensch.

Interesting that the best sports radio I've heard out of Pittsburgh in a long time was hosted by "not a radio guy."

But you ought to consider doing it, at least part-time. That was a clever, not to mention timely, subject.

Haha! Thanks, but seriously, it wouldn't be an upward move in any capacity. Radio's never been a destination for a bunch of reasons, not least of which is making a living. It's fun, and it also doesn't hurt exposure for the site, but ... yeah, no chance.

Happy new year to you!

Thank you. Mr. Madden is working on something I gave him and I'll leave it at that. Why Tomlin should be fired is a 30-minute conversation which is tough to fit in on a call-in radio segment, but I'll list 10 reasons:

The Steelers are a talented team stacked with pro bowl players and have one of the best offenses in football. As such ANY head coach ranging from poor, to average to good, to great is going to have a winning season. How we do in the playoffs is what matters.

Reasons Tomlin should be fired.

1 ) 3-6 in his last nine playoffs game with the last two wins coming over a backup QB in Matt Moore on the Dolphins and the Bengals who self-destructed with penalties late. His winning percentage in the playoffs from coaches that won a Super Bowl is 22nd out of 25th.

2 ) Losing to teams .500 and below too often. Very frustrating, and it cost us seeding when we make the playoffs. We saw it this year to Oakland and Denver. Chuck Noll was 50-1 vs .500 and below teams during his super bowl run. Tomlin more than other winning coaches loses more often to .500 and below teams.

3 ) Poor clock management. Tomlin does not have a clue, and often burns seconds off the clock when he should be saving them for the offense. He has refused a clock management coach.

4 ) Poor Judgment on the red flag. Is it that hard? We all see the replay. Yet Tomlin is 0 for his last 10. This cost us a timeout and deflates the spirit of the team. 4 for 10, okay. 0-10, you don't know what you are doing.

5 ) Situational football. Tomlin doesn't understand it. I've seen 2 Defensive linemen in goal line ( Vs 5 offensive lineman ) and our slower inside linebackers covering a wide receiver. Can you say mismatch? This is what the other team wants.

6 ) Critical mistakes on when to go for it, and what play to use. We all saw the Jacksonville playoff debacle with the early onside kick. Last week we saw a 4th and 5 fake punt asking our fullback ( Nix ) to pick up 5 yards on our side of the field. The chance of that play working is low at that distance. Why not just let Ben go 5 wide and do what he does?

7 ) Players respect. Tomlin had different rules for different players. Some could play locker room games, others could not. This divides a team. He changed these rules. His stance on the national anthem calling for team unity hurt nearly half the team who voted and wanted to be on the field. This is football, not politics, and you should not force anyone's to conform to a belief..yet Tomlin did and I believe lost a few players respect on that day. Politics is a 3rd rail for coaches, stay away, don't host a fund raiser for in your house for a person running for president in these political charged times. We lost to a bad Bears team that day, and Ben said it was a distraction. Tomlin also seems to have too many divas's. Bell, Bryant, Brown, to name a few. While two are gone, teams with too many divas's do not win super bowls. How does New England, or the NY Giants when they won super bowls deal with these type of players? Answer they either conform or they are gone. Tomlin has team leaders using social media to give up intel or take shots. Yes-its that bad, and even a good team guy like Pouncey has done this. .

8 ) What is his value add? He doesn't call plays. I see very little sideline coaching. When he is active he's often arguing with an official, much to the team's detriment. A top head coach takes a part of the game and specializes in it.

9 ) He's been here long enough. The Houston Oilers fired a then 11-5 Bum Phillips for not getting it done in the playoffs. The NFL has changed, but old coaches seldom do. I can't recall one head coach who won a super bowl and did so ten years later. And yes, Tomlin won his super bowl very early with a stacked team and Bill Cowher's players, just like Barry Switzer took over a loaded Dallas team and did the same for the Dallas Cowboys.

10 ) Lack of player development. As a former DB coach, why has Burns and Davis declined? In fact, many drafted DB's in rounds 2-4 like Cortez Allen, Curtis Brown, S Golson, and S Thomas did not pan out. Will Burns and Davis be joining them soon? Our best DB's two DB's are a veteran free agent ( Haden ) or rookie free agent finds. ( Hilton )

Catch my drift? I could mention penalties, too much loyalty to bad or older and declining players, a lack of X and O knowledge, and being tardy to promote younger players over weak link type of veterans...

Here we are with one game in the season left, and we need help from the Browns. A very mediocre team in the Tennessee Titans is ahead of us, and so are the Baltimore Ravens with a rookie QB. Their coaches are working well with what they have. Tomlin continues to underachieve with his. A head coach's job is to prepare his team, put them in the best positions to win, and keep them focused. Sorry, I don't see that. With many Steeler minority owners wanting Tomlin out, you have to assume some players to too.

In closing Art Rooney Jr must ask himself, is he okay with 8-8 to13-3 type of seasons with disappoint playoff losses, and being upset by 2-3 bad teams along the way - OR - would he want to add to the Steeler legacy like his Dad did and win another super bowl. We've seen this movie for years and know how it ends. That is the $64,000 question for Art.

I think Stallworth is the only minority owner. All the rest are a bunch of white folks. Wait, I guess I meant minority minority owner. Apparently no Rooney rule for investing in the Steelers.

Hopefully after the season is over, most likely next week, Mr. Rooney will call Coach Tomlin into the office and have a one way conversation with him.

Keith Butler and the entire defensive coaching staff, along with the special teams coach, are no longer employed by the Steelers.
We will be interviewing candidates to replace them and will ask that you respect their decisions, and not meddle in the process.

We will also be adding a time management consultant to work with you, both during the games and throughout the week, as well as a challenge specialist in the same capacity.

Good luck in 2019 Mike, now I have work to do.

Always liked hearing when you were covering for Mark, you're very similar to Stan, you let people get their point across even if you don't agree with it.

As for Tomlin, he's reached his expiration date, to many wasted years with an elite QB, WR, oline.
