What was different on defense?

If the Falcons played Martyball in the 2nd half of that Superbowl they have a ring today. Sometimes milking the clock is the best way to beat a good offense.

Our defense also tackled well for a change. At least the Steelers did not fall victim to the New England pick play. Brady was never a good outside sideline type of passer. We took away the middle, and offered a good pass rush. Watt was in Brady's face, and Haden probably
had the play of the season on defense.
 
They doubled Gronk basically the entire game. They definitely had a good plan for him. What'd he end up with, 1 catch?

Brady's post game quote regarding penalties:

"As for the multiple holding penalties, Brady said, “That’s what we do, we hold. It’s just whether you get called or not,” meaning it has become such a judgment call. He stopped short of criticizing the refs and asked the assembled media: “What did you guys think?”

When someone answered, “Hard to say,” Brady said, “That’s what I felt,” as in he can’t say what he thought."
 
Atleast Tomlin did not let pride get in the way and took Burns out. Burns should be let go now, find anyone who can play corner, has to be better than Burns. This defense needs to play this way the rest of year, they put us in this position along with the head coach so we will see how it plays out.

i saw Williams/Dupree trot out and cover a WR (maybe a RB) a few times. Rarely did Brady throw that way though.
 
I haven't heard why Tomlin pulled Burns. He didn't give up the big play. Why was he benched?
 
It was just very strange to see the Patriots running the ball so often, after they moved the ball easily through the air on their first drive, during which, btw, I saw somewhere that Hogan was open by 19+ yards -- the widest open any receiver has been in three years.

Normally, New England runs some version of a faster pace, even hurry-up passing offense against the Steelers...with great effectiveness. Sunday, they mostly just plodded through with runs up the middle on early downs. Hard to explain why they would choose to do that.

NE did have 3 big drops, each would've resulted in a first down and 105 penalty yards.
Of course we had AB have a ball go right through his hands and result in a pick and JuJu probably catches that ball over the defender in the endzone late most times

What I've heard is Tomlin saw the communication breakdown early and wanted to get the vet Sensabaugh in.

Only the coaches KNOW what defensive play was actually called - BUT, IMO, it was more than likely some sort of Cover 3 scheme and it APPEARED that Artie stays w/ his guy across the field instead of staying in his zone; but, as it was stated, Sean Davis could have been at fault IF he was supposed to play the flats...

The man standing next to the HC was Burns, so I think it HAD TO BE his fault.

I've come to the realization that NE will never get called for a PI. There was a play where Ben threw long to AB, and it was just a touch long, they showed the replay and as soon as AB put his move n the DB, the DB grabbed AB clearly and pulled him, even Romo commented after the replay

i also thought they would use white out of the backfield more. Their penalties kinda put them behind the 8 ball too

Yeah, everyone should've known it was going to take him a bit, we're not just asking him to play a traditional safety role, we need him to play LB, cover man to man on the wr, te, or RB.

I think they expected Burnett to be better, too, so that Edmunds could focus on a specific role.
