Steelers brought in ex Giants LB coach to work with the defense this week.

Beat me to it

I was wrong, we do have a playmaker on D, Joe Haden has hands

Sign more FAs, lol

Watt is a playmaker too, let us not count him out.

That guy is relentless, I just hope we can get an ILB that's fast and worth a damn so Watt can be primarily rush the QB and stop the run, instead of him having to drop into coverage so much like at Oakland.

I would love for them to go after the rats Mosley. He is due to become a UFA.

Mosley is a play maker for sure. He is not very good in coverage, and rats fans dog him about that, but at least he has a shot at catching the ball!

Burns was on the other side of the field. Nothing to do with him. I'm not sure why he was in there in the first place. From what Tomlin said he got scared by the communication on the TD so he went with the veteran Sensabaugh.

I read they wanted the press-man types on the field. Thank you, Staff, We’ve been asking for this against NE for years. Some of you who track this may know if our zone schemes are THE reason Burns is struggling. Is he really a man to man guy and we’ve not let him do that enough??

The defense gets pressure. You would think by the mere volume of pressure that you would get more passes going high and right to the safeties. I realize the ball still has to get caught but even the odd gimme. They have six picks for the season. There are games where a qb will throw three or even four. It's almost unbelievable how bad the takeaway margin has been.

I noted in another thread that it seems reasonable that a lot of an pressure should correlate to more turnovers through over throws, tipped balls and the occasional and strip. I can see players trying to strip the football from the runner, but they get squat. Seems unreal.

I was excited for the draft we picked up 3 DBs who had produced turnovers in college. 1 didn't make it through the 53 man roster, one never played a game for us and I think the other is also out of the nfl.

NFL Network was talking about the progress Eli Apple has made with the Saints. Seems like some talented CBs get better with the right NFL coaching.

And the right system. Apple is a lot like Burns. He's a man to man guy. Sucks in Zone. Giants ran a lot of Zone, and NO has always been a bit more aggressive on D.

Burns seems like he just has mental breakdowns. He just can't figure it out. The athleticism is there or he wouldn't have been drafted that high

That's the problem with drafting from size weight speed combine numbers instead of FOOTBALL players.

Steelers drafting can't identify ball skill players in the secondary, they need all new scouts on defense

I think that just means we need new LB coaches...

Been saying this for quite awhile now..................... I hope PEEZY is gone after the season and possibly Butler too, friend or not

That's exactly it right there. They got TJ Watt, a football player. This reaching for athletes business doesn't work as well as getting a known commodity as a football player first.

I'm in no way trying to turn this into a Cowher/Tomlin thing, there's already a thread for that, but this something I always thought we did pretty good while Cowher was here, drafted football players first.

My problem is we over correct. We look at primarily production and you get Jarvis, look at measurables and you get Durpee(who is better than Jarvis). We need to find a middle ground more consistently like we did with TJ. It only seems to be a first round problem for the most part as after that we have done damn well most years.

I think they did exactly that with Watt

Talent evaluation has waned since Dan stepped down. We definately need someone who is in higher management who can evaluate talent once the scouting department has picked through and narrowed the choices. TOMLIN & Colbert seem to struggle a little for what ever reason. I realize neither is going anywhere so maybe we need a scouting department personnel change............

whatever.

are we keeping this LB coach or not?

Yes I also noticed the 2017 draft was full of high character, high football IQ guys likely due to a perception that we were an immature, stupid bunch

demote Butler to LB coach again and go get a new D coach, and fire Tomlin.

Why keep Butler? If they would fire Tomlin I hope they let the guy they bring in hire WHO he wants as his coaches.

Absolutely agree, fire BUTLER & PEEZY. Bring in new DC and LB coach, hopefully out of franchise hires
