Gilbert is too injury-prone, in my opinion. He's only played 2 full seasons out of 8, and has missed 14 out of his last 26 games. Plus the guy's turning 31 in February.
Feiler got beat for a sack, but it was a pretty impressive spin move by the Jaguars Defensive Lineman. Will Gilbert get his job back? Right now, I think Feiler better than Gilbert at 80%, and that is the problem as Gilbert is seldom at 100% for 5 games in a row these days.
I think the Steelers can trade Gilbert, but for that to happen, Feiler needs to show a sustained level of play, and Chuks improvement.
I would say that as a whole, you do your best to keep this unit together as long as possible. They work well as a unit and continue to do so with a backup here and there, (Finney over Foster, Fieler over Gilbert when needed), but as far as having multiple backups move into starting roles, that could be shakey. I think all this eagerness to drop Foster, who is playing lights out great this season is a testament to how much we are taking for granted the stability and quality of the Oline. I'm more concerned about Pouncey suddenly walking away and the void that will create when he leaves.
I think they don't know what they have with Chukes yet still in the look and see stage. Feiler might be nothing more than a backup. I think this combined with they know what they have in Gilbert and there is no need to throw him to the curb, until a replacement is seen. Not that there isn't one on the roster, but you want to feel comfy with a replacement that he is either a upgrade or at least on the same level of talent.
Hell I could even see a Foster one year or two year contract. Knowing the Steelers love holding onto their own. And I am not sure they see Foster as declining. Nor do I believe he will cost much for a return.
Va led points especially on Foster. Maybe a two year STEELERS favorable deal.
Salute the nation
he leaves when Ben leaves
Drink, it would be great, fantastic even, if we could get all the players to sign Steeler friendly deals. Not gonna happen. I think Foster tests free agency and gets more than the Steelers are willing to pay somewhere else. Funny thing, I'm trying to think of an OL who has left the Steelers and remained as good with their new team as they were with our guys. Can't think of any in recent memory. Maybe Urbik, because he wasn't a starter here and became one?
