Tier 1 1. Mike Hilton (CB) Mike Hilton is not the most valuable player to the Steelers defense. He is a slot corner. But I do not believe it would be a reach to call him the best. At 5’9, Hilton manages to combine speed and quickness with a tenacity and power. He covers well, […]

Oh, this list is gonna be awful......

only a couple things stood out to me:

I, probably, move Hargrave to Tier 3. At least to the bottom of tier 2.

18. Anthony Chickillo (OLB) – Chickillo is a below average backup, who occasionally has some good games.

just a quibble with the language. I think Chick is a good back up and a below average (not by a lot) OLB. You shouldn't expect, in general, that your back ups are above average at their position or they won't be back ups for long. Probably, the same description you give Alualu would fit.

Coach is gonna have a hernia after reading this...

Check in later, I plan on doing mid term grades for the players.

Heyward #3? Not this year, he's underwhelming
Williams #6? A little high

I'd put Haden #1. I'd move Dupree up a few notches.

Dangerfield still gets no respect! Black & Gold Bleeder dislikes the lowly rating of the starting safeties. 7th and 11th among the starting players? You just ruined his weekend :)

Haden has to be #1. The D was useless when he was out injured and has looked decent since his return. Easily our most important defensive player.

1 haden
2 watt
3 Hilton
4 tuitt
5 bostic/williams

vince was like a 8 tackle guy last year this year I think with him without Shazier and Edmunds playing at times close to LOS its taking taking tackles away, he vs rats must be near the l.os,

Leave me out of your home erotic peepee touching self indulgence you cuckold queer.

25 best?

When I saw that I was sure it had to be an "all time" thing.

Dittos. I mean, without looking at the roster, you have 52 guys dress every week and two of them are kickers, so wouldn't there be about 25 defensive players? Da fuq?

Judging them solely on this season, with some consideration of how they played lately, here's how I see it the top 13 defenders.

1. Haden. Our best player on the defense and perhaps the hardest to replace.

2. Watt. Watt's our best pass rusher in terms of sacks, and QB hits. Watt also leads the team in solo tackles. He makes impactful plays in all three phases of the game. If Watt didn't block that field goal, we lose to the Clowns.

3. Hilton. Just brilliant in the slot vs. the run or pass. Tackles above his weight class. A gamer.

After these three, it gets muddy....

4 ) Tuitt. He has been coming on as of lately so I'll place him here. I could list a few guys in this spot. The big guy can make an impact without making a play

5 ) Dupree. Bud has been more consistent rushing the pass lately. Could be on the rise.

6 ) Heyward, our biggest underachiever, he has not been excellent or very good this season.

7 ) )Bostic. Decent vs the run. More active than I thought. Can rush the passer too.

8 ) Williams. Productive, yes, but very limited vs. the pass. I think he'll be seeing less playing time when healthy and will rate lower at least two spots lower by the end of the year.

9 ) Hargrave. Quietly having his best season, I think

10. ) Davis. Holding his own, but unspectacular. Likely to be passed by Edmunds.

11 ) Edmunds. His physical ability is obvious; however, his awareness needs work. Slowly improving, I expect him to move up at least two spots by the end of the year. His tackling needs improvement.

12 ) Fort - Has not played a lot, but looks good when given a chance.

13 ) Burnett. Hasn't been healthy enough to rate.
