Jets claim Johnson off of Waivers

more **** hitting the fan. This one should bring a big wave of reactions.

I freaking hated the cut. What the **** were they thinking? Cut Garvin or another journeyman, not a rookie you fucktards

Apparently they were banking on bringing him back. When is Colbert going to step up and take responsibility for anything??poor drafts, letting good players walk, horrible free agent signings, & poor personel decisions.

I posted on the day they cut him it was a dumb move to expose him to waivers and instead should have cut the worthless Chris Hubbard, between Tomlin, Kahn and Colbert there is **** for brains.

This administration can't evaluate talent and is a total disgrace. I recall seeing him play C in preseason and did ok. Plus pouncey has a history of injuries. This just doesn't make sense. Rooneys needs to walk up.
I told my son today that we will not spend money on going any more games until this admin is cleaned out.

Johnson wasn't particularly impressive, but I would have kept him over Hubbard.

They really didn't have to cut anyone. Why the need to add a safety with Allen and Golden on the roster?

These type of things are adding up quite fast. Sooner or later, someone is going to take the fall. I never ever understood how Colbert would get an atta boy for signing some one. I always had faith that it was Cowher that evaluated and said lets get him. Obviously, thinking it was Cowher, was above the line!!!

Salute the nation

This is what is wrong with this team, is it Tomlin or is it Colbert? All I know is every year we are fighting against the salary cap but yet we let our draft guys go or the guys we draft are not living up to all their hype. We are not a free agency team so we rely heavy on our draft picks and we need these guys to start steeping up. Is this an Tomlin issue or a Colbert issue, or is it an issue where these guys just don't work good together? I just find it hard to believe we are going to cut a guy who we just drafted which we have no idea just what he can bring to the table for us while we have 10-12 guys who are just bodies on this roster.

Colbert was brought into the FO as a help for Cowher. He was not even given the title of GM until 2010. Colbert is type of guy that you tell him what you want and he finds it. Which is why he and Cowher worked so well together. Cowher knew exactly what he wanted and how individual players fit the his system. Since Tomlin arrived the entire player profile changed. They went from drafting 3-4 tweeners to drafting 4-3 LBs. This is where you get Timmons, Davis, and Spence. Jones is the first true 3-4 LB they've drafted since Woodley. The problem is that Jones, who played in a 3-4 in college, was more of a rover in Georgia. He wasn't a traditional 3-4 OLB. It's almost as if Tomlin was damned determined to find a real 3-4 LB that nothing else mattered. Health issues? **** it. Speed issues? **** it. Nothing matters except that he is a real 3-4 LB.

Colbert is a yes man with a scouting background. Put him with a coach who knows talent and knows what he needs in his system and Colbert is fine. But put him with a Jekyll / Hyde HC that is torn between two defenses and you get this mess.

Wow vader I was looking at something yesterday and it is just what your taking about. I was looking at possible replacements as to who we would be interested in if Tomlin was shown the door. One of the guys I looked at was the D coordinator from SF Fangio cause of his 3-4 background. That got me thinking why we can't get the "super star" LB's anymore, is it cause Tomlin don't know what he is looking for cause he is/was mainly a 4-3 guy???? I know we have Lebeau but if Tomlin is the guy making the picks then maybe that's the reason.....just a thought. I wish we knew who was making the call Tomlin or Colbert.........

We know. For years Colbert and Cowher drafted tweeners to plug into OLB. The very first draft with Tomlin they draft a 4-3 OLB in Timmons. They then proceed to draft Davis the next year. Hood is drafted the next. Then Worilds, Gibson, and Sylvester are taken in 2010. Then they get Spence along with keeping McClendon. They don't even look for a prototypical NG for the 3-4. They move to faster smaller ILBs.

Colbert didn't just start drafting 4-3 type players by accident. Tomlin obviously has a ton of input.

I see what your saying I am just the kind of guy who don't want to blame the wrong person, but believe you me the way we are playing someone has to take the blame and be gone! I am not a Tomlin fan but I am not one of them guys who says fire the coach it has to be his fault. I want to make sure MT is pulling all the strings before I get on the fire MT bandwagon.

I understand that. It is a corporative effort with Colbert, Tomlin, coaches and scouts. However, I've been in hundreds of planning sessions and high level groups. Somebody has control. There is no way this multi-million dollar team is run by a handful of guys in a room. Someone is the boss. Someone has more pull. It isn't Colbert because if it were then the type of player would be the same across the coaching landscape. But there was a dramatic change in 2007 when Tomlin came on board. Since the power struggle with Donahoe the HC of the Steelers is the guy. The drafts have changed entirely. Only the HC has changed.

So you think that they allowed a first time HC to come in and make sweeping changes to a relatively success front office?

You dont think its more likely that, after Cowher's depature, Colbert began to command more responsibility? Especially considering his tenure with the team?

Just find it funny how much leeway Colbert gets. The team is in this situation because of our inability to 1.) cut ties with aging talent and 2.)manage the salary cap. Its unreasonable in this day and age to rely solely on mid round draft picks to 'reload'. See what Ozzie Newsome has done...

So you think Colbert all of a sudden couldn't tell the difference between a 4-3 OLB and a 3-4 OLB? You think Colbert, all on his own, decided to change to smaller, faster ILBs? You think Colbert, all on his own, decided to go to a smaller slashing NG? I guess all the interviews, news briefings etc.. given by Tomlin saying that he drafted these guys is just lies?

Also do you not think that Tomlin has any say over who is cut? You think Colbert is going to cut a player without Tomlin saying so? I know you don't want to blame Tomlin for anything but let's be real.

Well let me ask a question this thread started cause the Jets signed one of our draft picks, now Tomlin made the pick did Colbert let him go? These are the decisions that I want answers to and as to why are team is in the shape it is in.We draft guys and they get cut picked up by other teams and do ok(urbik, williams and shipley) while we are stuck with aging guys and nobody to replace them, who makes that decision??? Bigappleyizner, makes some good points aging talent and salary cap issues is a big problem with this tea,. JMO. now is it MT or KC....I don't know but someone has to be responsible and answer for this. And that will help turn this team back around......I hope!

Thats not what I am saying at all. And sure, there is plenty of blame to place on Tomlin for what occurs on the field.

I just find it hilarious that you are illustrating this picture of Colbert as the ignorant boob. Now, the drafting differences between now and then can easily be debated,
1.) Due to the growing number of teams running the 3-4 (only 2 teams ran the 3-4 in 2001, vs 15 today)
2.) Changing nature of the offensive game.

But how does that explain the poor contracts, lack of salary cap, and the attachment to aging vets?

They are dramatically better than what MT has been drafting.
