College football Saturday

James Franklin needs to go. He cannot take this team to the next level. 2 years in a row.... lose to OSU, then have let down game against MSU.... and this year was at home for both. Hire one of Alabama's assistants, or an upcoming div. 2 guy that is hungry. I know it won't happen, but one can wish

James Franklin is the Mike Tomlin of college football. How many upsets has Penn State had under his command versus how many times they've lost to an underdog? He has one of the best QBs in the Big Ten and, like Tomlin, is wasting his QB talent.

Dang, Tomlin has his faults but I would never go as far to compare him to Franklin. That's low.

Yes, Sanders broke a long run in the first quarter on an apparent defensive lapse. Yes, Sanders broke five tackles and scored on one other fruitful run up the middle.

But continuing to try and have success up the middle against the #1 run defense in the country, after getting thwarted again and again, was hard to watch. Especially the run-run-pass-field goal sequence.

Coaching won Michigan State that game, and coaching lost it for Penn State. Sparty's guy played to his team's strengths. PSU's guy likes to hear himself talk and embarrass weaker opponents.

Yesterday, the weaker opponent embarrassed him.

Kudos to Pitt..

probably should of won that game...

Definitely a trap game for my Fighting Irish...

Concerned about the O-Line play lately..

Well like I predicted after they lost to OSU the other week in the PSU OSU thread they weren't done losing......

Honest to god I watched the first half were they were up 14-7 and shut it off and went on with my day. Franklin is a hell of a rah rah guy and recruiter but guys like Meyer and Dantonio eat him and his staff for lunch on game day.....

A kissin' yer sister compliment SD, but I appreciate it.

Fortunate to have attended Pitt in the mid '70's, so my hopes each year are a bit on the high side.

Sounds like MSU had to overcome some questionable coaching decisions. Didn't they try to fake a short FG late in the game down by 3, and then punt with under two minutes? I guess it worked out for them, but I don't think most coaches make those calls.

Step sister? You know Greg and Marsha banged in Hawaii, right?

I do not like Franklin. Aside from the coaching lapses he seems to have a huge ego. He shows up teams when crushing them and after a loss seems to throw the players under the bus. In regards to the fake he said they were prepared and coached for it, but the player did not make the play. He also said something about not throwing the ball well enough.

I hear ya man..

My youngest brother, as well as several other relatives and friends have graduated or attended at the university...

No trash talking from me yesterday...for sure.

Narduzzi certainly had his defense prepared and playing very well for sure..
Good luck the rest of the way...Pitt's my next best college football team, and I usually root for them on Saturdays'...usually ... :)

I wouldn't say it was a "short" field goal. 39 or 40 yards in college is no gimme. And they had all three timeouts left when they punted late in the game. Dantonio counted on the strength of his team...his defense, and they stopped Penn State, who played not to lose and predictably ran the ball three times before punting it back to the Spartans. With McSorley running out of bounds on third down to stop the clock and save MSU a timeout, on top of it.

Most coaches also wouldn't attempt a fake punt on 4th-and-6 from their own 34 in the first quarter, either, but it gained 26 yards and set up Michigan State's only first half touchdown.

Franklin makes some in game mistakes but you have to remember this team is mostly underclassmen. They just don't have that much experience.

McSorley is covering up a lot of issues on the offense. The OL is much better than the last few years but it's still not great. They have recruited OL heavily so it will be improving each year.

They just don't have a go to receiver. Juwan Johnson has the experience but he has too many drops. Now their most reliable targets are freshmen KJ Hamler and TE Pat Freirermuth. You can see that they are not always on the same page with McSorley.

This is a rebuilding year for PSU. Most people were thinking 2 or 3 losses before the season. I think 8-4 would be OK for where they are with all these young players.

There is no coach worse than Dana Holgerson. He gets less out of talent than anybody. I'd kill to see Rich Rod with that QB and those weapons around him.
