Don’t know if anyone saw the ending to the CAR/NYG game. Looks like NY got hosed big time by a generous spot from the officials with 15 sec left. Enabled CAR to spike the ball on what would have been 4th down and end of game. Instead the spot gave them the opportunity to kick the winning FG.

On a spot for 1st down, isn’t there an official TO to measure if it’s under 2 minutes? Had they measured McCaffrey would have been short.

I didn’t see it in the rule book for under 2:00.

I saw it the same as you. He looked short to me, I was surprised they didn't stop for a measurement.
Although I'm glad they didn't, I had Carolina picked in my office pool.

Ike sometimes the LEAGUE has to do what it's gotta do to get these games to come out right. I don't know your feelings on "FIXED" or not but I feel a % of these games are definately swayed in certain directions. This would be a good example of that. As much MONEY $$$$$ as is involved in the betting aspects, there has to be some sort of "measurement" involved to get the desired finishes.

Well with legal betting becoming more prevalent they will think that whether true or not for sure

That was beyond ridiculous. He didn't even come close to getting a first down. And the screen still said 4th down, and when Cam spiked it, I thought the game was over. That spot was asinine.

I agree with DrinkIronCity. Makes the games really hard to care about

Went to the Steelers game yesterday with Cope. A couple of the ball spots we were like, "WTF?"

Oh, please. This would be a terrible example of that. Why would they push their luck and wait until the very end of the game to fix it? How in the hell do you orchestrate that? Why wasn’t there a phantom penalty on Barkley’s TD a minute earlier?

I'd like to see data on the team behind getting critical calls. It could be me, but the team behind tends to get the calls on offense. The same can be said on defense, the team behind tends not to get flags on plays where its debatable.

The only time the officials don't have to measure, is if they spot the ball on a yard marker, so if the ball was spotted on the 20 after a punt, they know only the nose of the football has to hit the 30 yard line to be a first down.

so the league "fixed" the ball spot so that the kicker could hit a "chip shot" 63 yard field goal? um, ok?

Admission: They got hosed but I hate the Giants so I was OK with it.
