The Steelers are currently projecting to have a seriously disappointing season. By the time Bell joins the team, it’s not unreasonable to predict they will be 4-5-1 or worse and on the brink of being eliminated from the playoffs. So would it be worth paying Bell $855,000 for six games if it likely meant getting nothing more than the 100th overall pick in the draft?

What are you gaining if you cut him?

Isn't something better than nothing?

Yes, unfortunately, for two reasons:

(1) The Steelers get significant salary cap benefits from waiting out Bell.
(2) A 3rd round pick for a team that needs this much defensive help means a lot.

If he doesn't show up until near the trade deadline I remove the tag. Just on principle alone. We're not going to get a single thing for this guy period. And that's that.

The Steelers get more salary cap benefits if they don’t pay him at all.

The steelers have every right to suspend him two games without pay when he returns... so literally you are paying him like under 4 for the final six games and the playoffs

Can they suspend him? What would it be for?

They will be in the playoff hunt by seasons end... we always panic then its fine... KC is much better than anticipated and the steelers secondary hasn’t adjusted for joe haden... he will get back and they wont suck out loud...

Its in the CBA ... teams have the right to hold out a player holding out for two weeks without pay to get them in game shape... its a defacto suspension... teams rarely utilize it

Oh the two week rule. Yeah ok. Yeah I would definitely apply that.

Which is why he’ll show up with eight games remaining and still get six games in.
