Aggie’s annual “this loss is going to cost us later” thread

Yeah I said it - this is as good as a loss. Every year we blow games against teams we should beat. Only took one week to get there this year.

I just know we will be something like 11-4-1 at the end of the season and the *s will be 12-4 and we would have otherwise had the tiebreaker on them. But instead we will end up in Foxboro for a playoff game and lose instead of getting them in Heinz.

Unlike a lot of y’all I’m not giving up on the season, but I sure as hell think this is going to come back to **** us

Yep, this is like the Bears game last year. It will cost the Steelers a spot in the seeding.
 
Thing is it isn't a loss. It was plenty of suck, but it was a tie.
 
**** it.. I'm giving up my keys to the Heinz Field executive bathroom.
 
It feels like a loss to me though. I mean.. I guess if we finish with the same number of wins as another team, then technically we have the “better” record. I just.. hate this entire structure. Every game should have a winner and a loser in my opinion

Right now I’d like to see the Steelers and Browns both finish 0-14-2 tying each other again in the rematch after four missed OT FG attempts. And have the highlights in fast motion with Benny Hill theme song.
 
Eh, every year we win about two games that we shouldn't and lose two that we shouldn't.
 
I was really hoping we could get a bit into the season before we had one of our obligatory head scratcher WTF games.

Not quite sure what point they were trying to prove by having Connor carry 100% of the workload right out of the gate, even into overtime

It is NOT a win, and wins are what counts when playoff time rolls around. All you need to know about ties is, what kind of playoff spot do you get with a record of 0-0-16? If it is not a win, then it counts as a loss, every time.

Say at the end of the season you are 12 -1 tie- 3 losses
And the team wanting the first seed is 12 wins -4 losses

Steelers would then get the first seed nod.

In some scenarios in can be bad and others it might not matter.

A lot of football to be played, let us see what transpires.
 
Eh, ugly as it was, it's only one game, 15 more to go.

Hopefully a wake up call and a better showing next weekend.
 
Ties are the ultimate tie breaker for playoff seeding. Not a bad thing at all. That tie is a half point up and gives us the breaker on any team with equal wins.

No need to figure out strength of schedule, strength of victory, sweeping opponents. We have the tie, so if wins are the same, we're the higher seed.

The only terrible aspect is the NFL has destroyed OT football. It just sucks. Variable rules, where 2 teams can score under certain conditions, then dropping the OT from 15 to 10min, means you will have multiple possessions in less time, which should statistically lead to more ties. I know you purists hate NCAA rules, but **** man, there is no such thing as a tie in college anymore. And that is where the NCAA got it right!

Thing is, sadly, they couldn't pin a loss on a team which had indeed lost 34 of its last 35 games.

I'm more worried about the teams at the top of the AFC. Seriously, 9 wins would probably win this division. As bad as the Bears loss was last year, this feels worse because it is a divisional opponent.

You're right but can if the team to take your place in the POs is chasing yaz. I'm just saying you can be up x 1/2 game as well as being down by a half game.

Slash, another way to look at it is it's a +1/2 game. So a 8-3-1 team is actually 8.5-3 vs 8-3 bye week team (just an example)

As frustrating as the game was, this is the only thing that really pissed me off. He looked great, but how about not using him up by week 5.
