College Football Saturday

What's your take on the fair catch rule that takes the ball out to the 25? I think it takes away from the game but it's good to see some teams rolling the dice and running it out
 
It really sucks that due to the conference mentality of pollsters, i am FORCED to root for Michigan. I should be enjoying their pain, but instead i have to root for them because a Michigan loss to ND could hurt Penn State's playoff credentials. It shouldn't but it does.

I don't like it. They want to take the kickoff out of the game. I still don't understand why. I keep being told it's a super dangerous play. I've watched football all my life, both college and pro and i just don't see all these kickoff injuries they keep talking about. Of course guys get hurt on kicks sometimes but it doesn't seem to me that it's at a higher rate than other plays.

This could end up being a bigger advantage to the big schools over the underdogs. Underdogs rarely win games straight up. They need a turnover or a trick play or a special teams play to bet a better team. We saw it today with App vs Penn State. App got a kick return TD right after PSU scored a TD on their opening drive. That special teams TD lifted their spirits and made them think they had a chance.

Strong teams will start kicking high and they will be able to make the tackle before the 25. I can see many coaches of underdogs telling their returners to just take the touchback and the guaranteed start at the 25.

Playoffs?!!! You talking about PLAYOFFS?!!! ... Seriously though, you are absolutely correct. And it does suck!
 
Is this the year people realize Jim Harbaugh is not that good of a coach? I've been saying it for years. He gets way more credit than he should. He inherited a great situation at every coaching stop, won immediately with the previous coach's team, then bolted before his **** team took over and it all caved in.

Isn't he supposed to be a QB guru? I give him zero credit for Andrew Luck. If anything, he held him back. Michigan fans keep crying about how they just need the right QB to make it all work. Well, he's had some pretty big recruits and he hasn't coached up any of them. He had Jake Rudock and that dude is still hanging in the NFL as a backup 3 years later which means he should have been plenty good enough to win in college.

Now it's Shea Patterson to save the day. Or maybe it's McCaffrey who was a top QB recruit. The offense still looks like ****.

Michigan fans should be worried. Penn State had a close call but that was a bunch of young guys blowing assignments and such and they did make big plays to compensate. Michigan got physically pushed around all game by Notre Dame.

Harbaugh just doesn't get the most out of his teams.
 
I tweeted to him that he screwed up by turning the Steelers down. He didn't like it, and let me know.

But he did screw up. By all accounts Colbert, Tomlin & Co. liked him. Alex Kozora of Steelers Digest said he eventually would have become their punt returner. And he showed talent as a receiver late in the 2016 season.

Maybe being cut by the Patriots, and now the Bears, will drum some sense into him.

I don't see Penn State sniffing the playoffs this year. They just don't have the defense or skill players developed.

Alabama could be unbeatable if they keep Tua in at QB.
 
The U took it on the chin last night. Make the QB switch NOW. Rosier ( team captain ) can't even complete 50% of his passes, and the 'Canes ranked something like 125th in the BCS on 3rd down conversions.

Mark Richt is a good coach. Benching the team captain though will not be easy.
 
Was some fun games to watch and some talented QB's.. The down fall was all the penalties. The officials really look for this targeting fouls, and some calls just why? Kicking a player out of a game is just bad, everything goes against the defenses. Just to many rules let the kids play.Takes away from the college game that is exciting to watch.

I don't think they will make it either. This is kind of a transitional year breaking in lots of new guys. But these new guys are blue chip players so anything is possible.

The new RBs Sanders and Ricky Slade were both 5 star. KJ Hamler is a redshirt freshman and he had some huge plays in the game. They have another true freshman WR Justin Shorter who is 6'4 and very fast. He was the top WR recruit this year. He didn't play this week because he had a minor injury.

Same on defense. Micah Parsons is a LB who will likely grow into a DE. He's an elite athlete. They have a bunch of potential stars on the DL.

You mix all of that with McSorley at QB and PSU has a puncher's chance in every game.

What's to talk about? No point in a regular season for them. They get to lose, not win their conference and still go to the playoff. Then once in the playoff, they are given the easier game.

Maybe it was the uniforms made of recycled garbage that made them play like garbage.

Miami was a bit lucky last year. They had a bunch of close games and they won due to a crazy amount of turnovers. Teams like that often take a step back because you can't count on turnovers
 
I like College football. I look forward to it. But when I'm watching the pre game for Notre Dame/ Michigan and they say if Michigan wins they will go 6-0 and if Notre Dame wins they will go 4-0 that annoys me. That is not sport in my opinion.

Almost like OSU the year before right? Remember they didn't win their conference but made it. The difference is that Bama blasted Clemson as opposed to getting blasted by them like OSU. Also if they had played Oklahoma and Georgia had played Clemson (who were #1 and only lost by 3 points on the road to Syracuse) then you'd ***** about them not playing the real #1 team in Clemson. But that's what happens to SEC teams. They get blasted either way. Nothing Bama could do would be good enough. They lose on the road to a good Auburn team and only have one loss. They deserved to be there and proved it on the field.... unlike OSU the year before. But I'm sure that isn't good enough for some.

Didn't see much of Tommy Stevens, in fact I can't remember him being in the game at all. They utilized him in various situations in different positions last year...do you know why that wasn't the case against App State?

The difference being, OSU went INSTEAD of the Big Ten Champ Penn State, whereas Alabama went in addition to Georgia. Many thought PSU should have gone as champ. Some thought they should have both gone, but the committee laughed at that idea, until it was the SEC that had that scenario and then they loved it.

It is pretty ridiculous that with a 4 team playoff, it is not a stipulation that each team must win their own conference.

College football has the most meaningful regular season of any sport. A single loss can knock you out of contention. Once you start taking non-champs, it cheapens the regular season. They took Bama over undefeated Central Florida

With so many FBS teams and so few games, it is impossible to judge these teams. Particularly teams that haven't played a championship game. Each week gives more info. After the playoff, it was clear Clemson didn't have the QB to hand with the true top teams. It was also clear that UCF did have what it took to possibly win it all.

The only good of a playoff is that it opens up for more teams, so you have more margin for error on picking the best. When you double up on teams from the same conference, it defeats the whole purpose of a playoff because you are giving power back to pollsters. That's what a playoff is supposed to change.

So getting back to my point. How exciting is watching Bama in regular season? They only have 2 teams on their schedule that look to be able to possibly beat them, LSU and Auburn and they only have to win 1 of those games. LSU may not even be that great. We don't know yet because we don't know if Miami is any good yet.

I had a problem with both Bama and OSU making the final 4 tourney. Neither even played in their conference championship game, which could have been a loss to a superior opponent. Instead, they both skated to a bye with a loss and made the final 4. Unforgivable, and still why I can't stand the playoff format of college football.
 
Maybe after Alabama makes the final 4 25 years in a row and wins 20 championships someone in college football will realize there is a problem. Literally the only thing that will derail them is some type of scandal/ violation.

The committee laughed because it was ridiculous. OSU got ******* pounded by Clemson. And mighty Penn St. had over half a hundred hung on them by USC. Georgia beat the team YOU thought would beat Bama. They try to find the best teams not the teams you happen to like. I wish they would expand but then people like you would ***** because too many SEC teams made it in. The fact is that Bama's loss last year was against a one loss Auburn. Which is better than Clemson's one loss against a horrible 4-8 Syracuse and Oklahoma's one loss against a 7-5 Iowa State team. But hey Oklahoma plays in the tough Big 12 conference where national champion power houses like Baylor and Texas Tech play. How could they not get in?

Fact is that both Georgia and Bama deserved to be there. If OSU had taken care of business last year then I wouldn't have a problem. But they didn't. The SEC is still the best conference and sometimes the two best teams are there. Just like last year when Georgia beat Oklahoma and Bama destroyed Clemson and beat Georgia.

Most people don't want the best teams to be in the final. They want their team to be in OR they want teams they don't like not to make it.

Just BTW how many teams on OSU's schedule can beat them? One? Outside of Penn State who the hell do they play? Michigan who they always beat and just lost to ND? Seriously?

Yes the SEC is probably consistently the best conference...but when was the last time Arkansas or Ole Miss or Miss St or Vandy, Tenn or South Carolina REALLY competed for the title?

Wasn't Miss St. #1 or #2 in the country a couple of years ago? You have Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Bama and Auburn that have won titles within the past 20 years. 11 out of the last 20 winners were from the SEC. What other conference has done that? Anybody even close?

When was the last time Iowa State, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska ETC.... every did anything. Hell when was the last time Michigan the supposed 2nd great team in the big ten competed for the title?
