Steelers release Landry Jones; Trim to 53

Maybe a trade is still in the works. Would think Sensabaugh, but since Allen released....don’t think so.

Golden isn't a rostered IR. He's a waived IR. He doesn't give the Steelers that spot needed to make room for Bell.

For IRing players, they either have to be rostered, or they have to clear waivers when waived/IR designated. The latter doesn't clear a spot.

Note: didn’t fact check before posting

That, and I really think Fichtner has been instrumental in this. Haley seemed so conservative (minus the 3rd and 1 bombs Ben would sometimes throw) and I think if he was still here, Jones would be as well. I think Fichtner is showing these guys he's confident in them and it's in turn making them so much more confident. I know that's speculation but I've never seen Dobbs look so confident as he did against Carolina. There's still a lot they need to learn and neither have ever even thrown an NFL regular season pass (:eek1:) but they sure as hell ain't living in their fears. I love it.

You could see a determined effort by the OC to call plays that fit Dobb's physical strengths. No way Haley would have run bootlegs like that. He was more of a square peg round hole guy..

Yep, Haley may have said you either adapt to my brilliant system or be gone. Loved the misdirection plays/bootlegs I was seeing.

I'm kind of shocked they let Landry walk, but to let Fitz walk? THERE IS A GOD! Thank you Jesus!!!

Right now the Steelers official roster is showing 54 (including Bell). Obviously, he's not currently rostered until he signs his tender.

I’m happy for the young man Joshua Dobbs. He obviously worked hard preparing for this opportunity and it paid off.
Jones time came and went and it was as good as it would ever get for him. Dobbs has a lot of upside and that’s exciting.
Hell of a battle next year for the backup job to Ben between the young Mr. Dobbs and even younger Mr. Rudolph.

I’m still not feeling it for Lev Bell reporting next week. Gut feeling keeps telling me later during the season but I have no problem being wrong on this one. Unfortunately we do need LevBell at his best starting with game one. We can worry about his replacement next draft so I hope he reports Monday and has his best season to date.

My money is on him not returning for a while.

B-B-B-Bucky Hodges has been cut??! What will we do now??

latest

We are going to miss those 24 TDs he brings to the table......................

Salute the nation

Bell? Ugh, while I know he doesn't have everything to do w/ it, damn James Harrison. Why wouldn't he want to put up (or attempt to put up) huge numbers for the season so he can get the best contract possible?

Definitely not upset about Jones being gone but a little surprised we couldn't get something in a trade for him. Even a 4th or 5th rounder would have been OK but nothing is disappointing. I'd be shocked if he goes more than a week without someone grabbing him.

I understand the Landry Jones move. In the long term I even agree with it. But I won't celebrate it because......
1. I think he is a good guy and was a loyal Steeler. Knew his place on the depth chart, but always came to play when his number was called.
2. I don't think the Steelers will be in a better position THIS year if Ben is injured in the three to four week range. One or two they should be fine. Long term or god forbid a season ender it simply doesn't matter, because Jones wasn't taking you anywhere anyhow. But on a three to four week run, I'd rather have a guy who has played and won in this league.

I found it hard to believe that Tomlin cut Jones with 19 game appearances and 5 starts and kept the youngsters with no real starts. But the young guys show more threat and promise.

Give me Conner behind Ben with our full arsenal of starters.

Its a light gamble. They were probably not going to resign Jones at the end of the season. He would look at the writing on the wall and realize he didn't have opportunity here. And they are not sold that it couldn't be Josh Dobbs not Mason Rudolph as the starter down the road. I think that other than the 4 game scenario that I mentioned this is a great move. Dobbs and Rudolph will push eachother from here out. For real. Rudolph wasn't playing for his spot. He got the default. But he will have to play for the number two spot here on out. Hopefully that competition will create a starter out of one of them.

There's more time for change, but keeping guys like Thomas and Adeniyi fall in line with this philosophy as well.
